As stated above a cotton shoelace works great. Just tie it around whoopie making sure to keep it covered by your tarp

First off welcome to the forum bergur. With your height you might want to look into the Wbbb xlc since its an 11 ft hammock. It might be more comfortable for you, that's just my 2 cents.

I would probably cut 2-3 feet out of the bottom bar and put a smaller diameter pipe maybe a fence post into both sides and bolt it together on both sides of the cut

I use a Kelty Noah 12 for hanging in the backyard. I got it for 70 dollars from Rei. And I gotta say its huge. Plenty of coverage and lots of stake out points. Can even be staked out with doors...

Not sure if its normal or if it will lead to a hole. But my table cloth hammock has a few spots that look similar and they haven't gotten any worse in almost a year. But I do keep my eye on them.

Never had any problem with either prussic or klemheist knots. I just believe that the latter has more grip. That why I use it.

As a bricklayer I can tell you braided mason line is surprisingly strong. You should be fine with 17 lbs line. They also make a waxed line that might hold good but it harder to find

my advice is to try and stay at the campsites with working water pumps. many are broken or have handles removed because of not passing health inspections. i personally filtered the water from pumps...
