I'm thinking I want to see what I can do about riding my bike down and joining this soire...
Brilliant idea, sir. I'll have a go...
HAMMOCK:
11' finished length made from orange Argon90, double layer, selectively insulate-able.
Basic enclosing bugnet.
TARP
12' Hexagonal, winter...
The very reason I dropped it on e'ryone.
In the days of my misspent youth...weed. Cannabis and a conveyance to partake of the body. There are times to this day when I miss it. Especially given it's mass/entertainment index. If one is a REAL...
As asked in title: Where do YOU place the greatest emphasis on insulation? More/thicker UQ or TQ?
To date I haven't used an underquilt as I had one not. This is changing for the coming season....
For once I've scored on fleabay. Got a rectangular down bag that looks, in it's pics, to be both structurally sound and classically early 1980s vintage. First down sleeping bag, that could end up...
Yeah, I run a CRL for the tarp with prusick knotted boot laces tied to the tarp. Over or under the line is personal IMHO.
Given how easy sewing the ends of a nylon tablecloth is why would one bother sewing seams on ripstop/parachute nylon, or spend $$$ on manufactured hammocks? (other than for weight wienie...
My dog used to stay out in vestibule of tent. Now she lays w/in confines of tarp on random ground cover. I once slept with dogs when camping, or after field parties (in the days of my misspent...
My understanding of dyneema line is that knotting really negatively affects it's breaking strength. Moreso than other line type/material. I avoid knots in it and prefer using kern/mantle line and...
Fixed length SRL looped around the whipping above the soft shackle/ring. Seems to be most logical on my whipped end (table cloth) hammocks. I have a Gr. Trunk UL that has a larks head continuous...
So SRL attached to hammock whipping, or the suspension line(s)-i.e. whoopie, etc.?
I am also assuming my Sterling Ropes 1.5mm minicord (rated to 45#) is inadequate for SRL, but will it suffice for...
So I realize that sewn webbing ends are inherently stronger, but at what point does it become overkill when simply wrapped around a tree? Mountaineers and climbers knotted our runners for decades...
I just had the same thing from both places myself. Excellent experiences from the cottage industries these days.
My wife has a shop on Etsy. She deals similarly with her shipping. She agonizes,...
Back in June a friend of mine and I made a trip to BCSP in NEOH via bicycle. As we were "dirtbagging" at a campground for a sub-24 hour overnight trip (S24O) I went with a father's day gift Grand...
I'll miss this one, reluctantly. That the weekend of Crush the Commonwealth, a wildcat bicycle race across PA from Philly to Pgh.
I want to commit to this if only to get me to make my tarp and quilts. Hell, I may even make an entire kit; I've wanted a really beefy hammock since I first hung in my Grand Trunk UL.
Now, as I...
Baby wipes...they're not just for bottoms anymore.™
Whatever brand you enjoy or endorse these are generally the most convenient way to prevent stench. Them and wool are the key. My wool cycling...
So looking at tablecloth shortcut to DIY and see poly and crinkle taffeta. Any opinions thrown at me here would be appreciated. I don't want stretch, or at least limit it, and it's got to be abuse...
I'd be in for some man-hours in exchange for some time on site with the famliy at a later date. I'm an OK carpenter...better biologist, but that's less likely to be applicable here.
More comfort than two felines deserve.
That being said, I'm glad they have a better place than what was probably their last.
The sound you heard in the night may have been turkey poults, or some other game bird (grouse?).
DIY can be had for lots less than "branded" gear for sure. That being said, what's your time worth? 'Cause DIY takes time.
I really see no need for one. Not even during hunting seasons in the northwoods of PA.
I don't care what they are supposed to be. Euro 45 is almost always (in my experience) a US11. I used to wear 44 climbing shoes and squeezed in my wide-*** 11 feet.
Dammit..!!
Like 'em. Too long.
We used them when I climbed. Ties lines together very well. Easy to tie, less so to undo.
One can also tie webbing loops far easier than sewing it. Sewing it only makes the webbing slightly less...
Always good to hear of health returning to someone. Keep it up.
Ever considered DIY?
Not something one hears spoken often.
Nice trip. Love the Whites.
I'm down here in N. Portage county...Windham Twp. Used to deliver propane all over the area where you live.
Depends on what you are looking to do. Moraine has become a mecca of sorts for boaters, and has some MTB trails. It's still pretty flat, and has the limitations that brings.
Still made? His site has them listed, but I see no means of ordering it directly from there. Anyone know more than I about this?
Craptastic (again). My daughter acts in "Oklahoma!" that weekend. I swear one of these things will work out for me...
I usually just lay there and listen for the unmistakable footfalls of samsquantches...
(They'll sneak right in on ya. I swear. Leave 'em jerky, or beer, or both.)
So, I've been checking at a few sites for opinions and experience with inflatable pads. I have used two and both leaked. One was a store brand (rhymes with bander...), and another was an older brand...
Don't fall for the "lighter is better" trap. Comfort is better, as is dryer is better. Two hammocks and one HUGE tarp can work if one can creatively hang them. One of you carries the hammocks &...
I eat the leaves every Spring (start small) to develop and maintain immunity. Alternatively, drink goats' milk - goats love to eat PI. Some caution required, but it's worked for me for the last 27...
Mason's line. Whip it about a dozen wraps (never 13...). Bob's-your-uncle.
2nds are fine. Usually cosmetic blems, almost never performance issues. Remember that the retailer wants you to be satisfied. 'Sides, in two or three uses it's going to be 2nds anyway.:D
I sleep warm, but I wouldn't even consider sleeping in anything other than clean (as possible) hiking clothes. I never bring special stuff to sleep in unless it's wicked cold.
I NEVER forget snakes. They just don't worry me too much. So far they have always let me know when I'm too close.
I hope to get out there and meet some of you. My late uncle's cabin is over in...
Anyone have any interest in a walk of the trails in this area of the PA Wilds during the 1st week in July? I will have my DIY rig finished and checked out by then.
For those that don't know: That...
Craptastic! I was hoping to ruin your trip n'at by walking it with yinz, but I can't get time that week. The shame of it all is that I was just going to start a thread about walking something like...
Craptastic!! I know none of you, but wish to. Can't make this one as my first-born graduates high school and that's his open house/grad party weekend. After this he's off to Honors College at Univ...
I have a friend that does this type of **** with his mountain bikes. Carbon fiber goodies all round, and he starts counting grams on cranks, pedals, and wheels.
It is an illness for sure.
What are you using now? What is your reason for parting ways with it? Did you find it at all "simmerable"-easy to adjust down from pot-melting hot?
Loads of questions, but I use a Trangia now and...
If one is using a structural ridgeline cord does one ordinarily leave it attached all the time, simply adjusting it when needed?
This is what I assume to be the case. At least it works for me.
Tarp? I assume not for the price, but the only stupid question is the unasked one.
Has anyone considered tying actual knots in their webbing? I realize (having been a climber) that it weakens the rated strength of the webbing, but we aren't using it to arrest a screaming fall...
