Just got myself a vest and coat to wear, my wife a coat and two for an UQ. Went for a 5 mile hike with the vest in mid-40s weather and was very comfortable. I hope to get a 3 season UQ out of them.

Can someone tell me how the UQ should compare to the TQ when it comes to fill weight/warmth? Should the UQ be the heaviest/warmest item or should they be about equal?
Thanks.
Yes, lots. I have been motorcycle camping the last few years and found many campgrounds don't have trees. They mow down a field and any trees around are ornamental. Also at the OBX there are...
Where did you get the digital camo ripstop and how much is it? I am considering a DIY hammock and really want a camo one for stealth camping.
I have the Kelty Noah 12x12 but have not hung with it yet. I am a noob and have only ever taken naps in a hammock. I hope to go camping in a couple weeks to try it out. Here is a shot of the tarp...
This area (I live in Roanoke) is all wooded so you can hang about anywhere. Lots of national forest around as well as the AT trail.
I have been slowly setting up a hammock and hope to get to go camping with my brother in a couple weeks to try it out. It is an ENO single nest with a Kelty Noah 12x12 tarp. I am using descender...
If I am not mistaken, black bears kill more people than any other bears. They don't usually attack, but when they do, they kill. I have heard that you should play dead for grizzlies. They will...
Thanks for the advice so far. Anyone have any suggestions on size of the hammock?
This mama is setting a bad example for her children. Instead of working for her living and teaching the children a work ethic, she has chosen the easy route of laziness and theft. She probably...
I have an ENO single nest hammock and am thinking about getting the double nest. I have yet to spend the night in the single nest but anticipate the need for a wider hammock as I am 6' 2" and 220...
Oops, posted to wrong forum. Moving to the in the DIY forum. Moderators please delete this thread.
I swapped out my ENO straps, which are WORTHLESS, for polyester straps from Arrowhead Equipment. I also use 2 descender rings and a whoopie loop on the ends of the hammock. Much lighter, stronger...
I am not nearly as modest as I use to be but the biggest fear I have is being reported. With today's paranoia about sexual predators all you would need is for one person to call the cops and poof,...
Leaves are definitely a good sign, but not infallible. I am having this giant oak tree branch cut out later today. This branch is as big as a lot of tree. It had no signs of disease or damage that...
Thanks, I was thinking about something like your example A with hardware but I was going to make both ends adjustable. After the discussion here, I think I will first try with just the one...
I just attached some Arrowhead Equipment straps to my ENO hammock last night. I do not know what they weight but they are much lighter than I expected. Much thinner than the straps that come on...
Thanks everyone for the input. Will just have to try it and see. :)
I am reposting the image from the sticky in this forum below for reference. If you look at the side view in the image, you see the tarp ridge line below the hammock's tree straps. Does the tarp...
I have seen them jump off of pants treated with it. My brother and I were fishing and we found a tick crawling on the tacklebox. So he lifted it up with his knife blade and set it on the knee of...
Maybe I can use the ridgeline to tell when the hammock is at the proper angle and not tighten the straps beyond that? Then the ridgeline would not be supporting significant weight.
Thanks for the advice. I will definitely post up picks once I get it setup.
One more question though, what is the best cord/rope to use? I have some cord from REI that I think is only good for...
I am waiting for the arrival of carabiners, descender rings, polyester straps and Amsteel loops to build out my suspension. I plan to rig my hammock up the way Shug demonstrates in one of his videos...
I have the ENO tree straps that are junk because they stretch too much. I am going to order some straps from Arrowhead Equipment and was wondering what a good length would be? I am new to hammocks...
Thanks Shnick, I just spent the last hour plus watching the first 7 video tutorials. :)
Ok, I have seen Bishop Bag mentioned more than once on this forum but I don't know what it is. So what is it? :)
I am a newbie to hammocks and got my first one, an ENO, last year. While I have only had a few test naps in it, I do hope to camp in it this year. There isn't a lot to hanging one, but it does all...
Thanks, the Warbonnet zipper does look like it would be easier to get in and out of. It is also half the weight of the ENO which is nice.
I have an ENO singlenest hammock. I have yet to spend a night in it though I have taken a couple test naps. :D I just ordered the Kelty Noah 12' tarp and I am considering the ENO bug net.

I see everyone talking about TQ and UQ for hammocks and not much mention of sleeping bags. Do you not use a sleeping bag with a TQ and UQ? Can you use a sleeping bag instead of a TQ and UQ?
