I think at our latitude it may work to keep you warm, but it would be a tight fit with little room to move in the hammock.
I use 6ft generally, but keep some extra line in my bag just in case.

Just to follow up on our Florida Caverns Trip, everything worked out great. When talking with the park staff at check in, they had a memo in hand stating that hammock camping in the youth camp areas...
My 10 yr old and I hung side by side under the same tarp using spreader bars, and it worked out fine. Both using GT Hammocks. Used a large poly tarp on our last scout trip.
Still need a better tarp...

That sounds like a perfect option given your plans. My family has been there several times. They have a nice lodge with all the normal hotel amenities. They also have cabins and of coarse the camping...
