I'd avoid drilling into your tubes, definitely a weakener. Epoxy shoudl bond really well since odds are very high that that is what the resin in your CF tubes is already, so...
The real issue is Tinny has no clue about the difference between force and pressure.... Force 200 lbs , pressure force over area.... 200 lbs over 10 sq inches is 20 psi, 200 lbs over .01 sq inches is...
The splices are not permanent in that they can be removed and the line will be as it was. But they do require splicing tools of some fashion.
Tying a bowline will weaken the lines the knot...
MSr Groundhogs, got them on sale at REI one day... :D
Happy camper... LOL
Or use a textured fabric and make sure to really wipe down the outside when you DIY sil coat it...
Well you've asked a much discussed question. :)
Personally, I'd either make it from something totally waterproof, or something completely not, inside and out,
For your first attempt I'd...
The loops can be made from any single braid rope. The choice of material/size, depends on the nature of the use you want to put it to.
Dynaglide is 2mm HMPE (Dyneema/Spectra) cord with a rated...
Two tarps is a choice always... but I prefer to have more weight in one bigger tarp than two smaller ones....
And yes it snowed Saturday past, no accumulation, just pretty flakes... :)
...
It appears that the buries are approximately 65 rope diameters for this.
So that would be about 6" for 2.2mm Zing-It, and 8" for 1/8" lines...
:) Nice... Uses not a lot of line and is as strong...
Think in years to decades, if other high-tech textiles are any indicator.
I'd also seriously consider the underquilt being separate. I know its a bit more but then the hammock is more versatile. You don't always have the warmth, which is good when its hot out... :)
...
Redden will sell it by the foot as well. Its slightly more expensive, but cheaper than buying more than you want. :)

Yep. Pretty much exactly, should have known the forum would have already been there and done that in some fashion. :)
I also took note of the fact that spliced loops should be a minimum of three times the length of the diameter of the item inside the loop.
And the minimum diameter for bends should be at least 3...

Recently while watching a survival show I saw them use an almost clear piece of plastic to make essentially a greenhouse collect and hold the radiant heat from a fire outside of the covered area,...
Spectra/Dyneema are both trade names for the same product which is a UHMWPE fibre. Very strong very light but temperature sensitive, frictional heating can cause loss of strength. All should float,...
In Raif's picture above the green would be the loop on your whoopie ended ridgeline, and the purple would be whipped end of the hammock.
REI, or EMS will both be likely to carry them. Also working safety supply place will have steel ones, Heavier, but still strong.
This is always my approach its more practical and flexible for variable weather conditions.
We mostly always dress in layers and have very good reasons for this on our bodies why would it be...
I'm not aware of any materials used for fabrics that would be good for a light tarp and be heat/fire resistant enought to stop embers from burning pin holes in it. Even the teflon layer in Goretex...
I just larkshead the ridgeline between the suspension and whipping at both ends. Works and can be adjusted of removed very easily independent of everything else.
Also the VHB tape comes in different widths. if you use 3/4" or 1" its less than twice the price of 1/2" and you don't have to double it.
Besides compared to the price of a commercial ultralight...
Buy cheep nylonf fabric sew whatever tarp you like and DIY the sil coating per the sticky there... :) Cheap and wonderful. ... except for the labour... :)
I always prefer the most tarp space possible/feasible given weight and cost.
It makes a three straight days of rain bearable. It keeps wood, seating and camp kitchens dry.
Overall it increases...
Be very careful with the very hot water... Your hot water tank may well produce water thats hot enough to degrade the strength of your Amsteel. 80C (175F) is beyond the safe limit for Spectra/Dyneema...
I would imagine that using the 3M 9460 tape used on Cuben woudl also work reasonably well on waterproof fabric, and give a "sealed" seam. Especially if you used one of the thicker adhesive variants....
If you want easy go with webbing suspension.
If you want less bulk and weight go with Amsteel from ReddenMarine. The 7/64 is cheep, strong, even when derated for knots and has virtually no...
Surface energy of a material is related to its molecular structure.
Just adding something, unless it reacts with the material, substrate won't change its surface energy. Polyester (Mylar is a...
Understandably, however, most insulation (in a building) leads a pretty static conditioned life, unless there is some failure in the structure.
However the same can't be said of a sleeping bag....
Love my Camp Nano's. Might not be the lightest but sure are fast and easy. No matter the conditions, (of the weather or me :) )
They also give a multitude of connection options, allowing for a...
I'd go with the heavier size, because spectra/dyneema loses so much strength from frictional heating. the 2.2 give you a better option all around.
Also personally I lift and tie off a block...
I don't have a thread as this was created long ago... About 1994 or '95.

Rinses rinses and more rinses... I usually use the second cycle without soap method. Easier on me and more rinses :)
Also don't wash it so darn much... It really doesn't need it.

And... to make matters worse the R value of a bag would change depending on how damp it was, or wet it was, the ambient humdity, because its absorbent, and prone to be used in a lots of different...

Great if you have something to stop the air movement. And...
Because moisture pervades the whole thing and condenses in the cooler portions (as you move through the insulation the temperature drops). So you'd end up with a pool of water in the bottom, or very...

The simple part is its related the angle of the suspension and the flatter the suspension angle the higher the tension. The good news is that there is always some sag due to stretch in the hammock...

Cheapest way would be to stamp them and tumble them. But there's overhead in making the die to stamp them which makes the start-up a bit more than other methods.
Another way to encourage the "spaces" between the sewn through section to close up rather than gap open is to dimension the quilt so that the inner layer is the sewn through part with the extra...
