I never thought of this until now.
No, I was doing a single turn. I didn't pay much attention when I was tying it since I had done it so many times before, but I think I must have done a step wrong or something.

If you do a loop to loop connection you are basically making a reef knot.

I'll add that when I did my thru-hike attempt I started in January and carried a ground cloth with the thought that if it ever got so cold I couldn't hang anymore I would go to ground. Weighed less...
My opinion (take it for what it is worth) to be a hitch it would have to be some sort of solid mount like a ring, pole, or post. Since it is connected to another piece of rope it would be a bend. But...
As I recall the weather can cause the Little Missouri to get up fast. I remember a few years back when a big flash flood went through Albert Pike and killed a lot of campers.
My tarp has a cord pull out. To this I attach a loop of 200lb fishing line. With that line I make the prussik around my tarp's line. Here is a picture:

On the end of that line I have the...
This what I think I know:
A "knot" is a line tied to itself.
A bend is a knot that connects it to another line. So in this case a continuous loop is the other line.
A Hitch is a knot that...
I use 200lb hollow braided fishing line to make the prussik, I haven't noticed to be hard in the cold.
I am one of the oddballs that likes a pad in my hammock, so going to ground is not a huge issue if it happens. But it is a very rare occasion when this happens, and it is usually from a hammock...
I have more hammocks than I know what to do with. I don't even know how many I have at this point anymore. That said I have one hammock I like to use for all hiking and longing in my back yard and...
I use 1.25mm Z-Line with loops tied to the ends for the stakes to go through. They are connected to the tarp via prusic knots which I can adjust the tension on from under the tarp if it starts to sag...
I've got one I made myself that can serve as a poop trowel or as a sand stake. Similar to the duce scoop. I like it.
A nickname we came up with for a slightly modified double sheet bend you can see on this page:...
I just got in from a three day two night hike in GSMNP. I took my Argon X90 Landing vehicle (it hasn't landed yet) and my Green Ghost with the experimental suspension.
Night 1: Argon X90 using...
Very good write up. Thank you for sharing incites gained during your hike.
Hug. It attaches at the head end by going over the suspension attachment, has a grappler prusik on the ridge-line to suspend it over my head, and a shock cord under the hammock body.
I use those things that throw covers come in
Huh. Good to know stuff.
When I used snakeskins I never packed my tarp inside the skins. Furling a wet tarp and a dry hammock up in a sock seemed like a very bad idea. In fact putting a wet tarp in anything that doesn't have...
Tarp and hammock suspension go in a mesh bag that goes in an outside mesh pocket of my pack. Simple reason: these can be wet and I don't want wet in contact with dry.
Hammock with underquilt still...
That is what I was thinking.
----------------------------------------------
Edit: I went ahead and made some toggles at 3.1 grams each. So I have now added back in 4.4 grams. Lines+straps+grapplers...
I do plan to make a video once I have had some trail time to evaluate the solution I am working with. I am personally skeptical that it is a solution that many would want to try.
So I leave in a...
I've not done it in over 10 years, but I loved it. We started at the northeastern part of the loop and hiked it around clockwise. I loved it, especially the Winding Staircase portion.
I know what you mean. I like the simplicity of a bend with the amsteel and I am not sure the 6.8 gram savings is worth it other than for the experimental value.
I hadn't thought about doing it over the CL. That is something I plan to play with. Thanks for sparking a new idea!
Got my fleaz in last night and played with them a little. So far they were fine. Trail and error testing starts Friday.
I had not thought about the possibility of going to large and causing a different bend issue. Currently I have two arrow shaft toggles, one is about 6mm and the other is about 9mm and was trying to...
Ouch. Good luck!
Step 1: Stop stacking hammocks.
I appreciate the feedback. I've been using the titanium Dutch hooks to connect my ridgeline back to itself for years now and attached the line to the tarp with a prusik. It has been very successful...
Mainly I'm thinking of the sharp bend around a narrow toggle possibly weakening the dynaglide over time. So if I use something about the diameter of an arrow shaft for the toggle would that cause...
I'm heading to the Slickrock Wilderness 2-6 October if you are free.
Just wondering if stick diameter makes any difference on the success of the toggle hitch using dynaglide or if it would be better for the life of dynaglide to use a larger diameter toggle over...
I used one of those and a Mt Washington pad for years.
I'd be interested in hearing how that works out.
If someone finds the alien technology or fairy dust I want to try some
I have hollow core braid.
I've done it all but the inflatable. I found most inflatables too narrow. Closed cell foam pads are generally lighter and warmer plus if you get the right ones they are more flexible and they slip...
I appreciate it but I have some of that too LOL. I've got some 1.25mm Zline that holds well in many applications and is hard to tangle, but I can save a few grams by trying the fishing line instead....
I'm going to try CRL one more again. This time I'm using 200lb test fishing line and a Ti dutch hook on one end, and I was thinking of using a Fleaz on the other. I was just wondering if anyone else...
JRB Sniveler selection. This sounds exactly like what you are looking for. Try the Sierra Sniveler for the general 3 season use.
I think if there is any danger from lighting to a hanger it is probably more from cambria getting super heated and blowing out bark and /or causing limbs to drop. Tents in the woods near trees would...
Generally I sleep through it.
Perfect. Thanks for the info.
Quick question: are there limits on what poles will and will not work? Such as: does this work with twist lock and friction lock poles? Is it safe to use with carbon fiber poles? Are non-locking...
Did it in 2003 with my first poncho liner underquilt. It is a solution but I didn't like the way I had it set up. Hooks and ladders works better for me.
Since we haven't had much movement on this lately....
I'm getting ready to take out my rig in a couple of weeks for a multi day trail and error test. I plan to bring a backup of my Green Ghost and...
Has anyone tried these with dynaglide?
