Neither. Go to a fabric store, get a little ripstop and sew a Speer-style hammock for next to nothing. So easy, even I can do it.
Rain, definitely. You can always use permethrin, deet, etc, to keep bugs away. To go out without sufficient shelter, IMO, is nothing short of reckless and irresponsible.
Get the Superfly. You can always get an inexpensive hammock to sleep in and then upgrade later. But if you buy a Blackbird, then you have a super nice hammock with no tarp and that's not doing you...
