That's the same glue I was gonna use. Good enough for me. Thanks. When I get the time, Ill pull the trigger and post some pics. (hopefully...not too tech savvy)

Really :D........any idea where to find said video???
I'm reconsidering. I may steal the gargoyle ogee pattern. It's not too much different than the ENO, though. It's got better coverage, and "doors". I think it would be most useful. My only...
No offense, but any thicker than 2 mil and its not worth carrying as it will be MORE bulky than a standard tarp. imho, anyway. If I ever got the desire to make a painter's plastic tarp, I'd...
The reason I cited it was for the fiberglass tape tie outs. I'm not going to tape the whole thing along the suspension points. It is quite unnecessary for poly tarps.
I suppose I could just...
My buddy does. Identical to Walmart ccf just green. Same performance.
jspate uses 3/4" fiberglass strapping/package tape for tie outs on his painter's plastic tarps. I'm sure the application would work just fine on poly. I've done repairs with tape and the adhesion...
I was gonna use a 10x12 and leave it 12' on the ridge and cut it to 6' maybe on the sides? (with the full ten foot at the points) That is bigger than the ENO, I was just gonna steal the shape. Part...
Excellent advice. I do slightly disagree on the concrete, though. It makes a "bell" shape (think of a bugle head wood screw) that is almost impossible to dislodge. (I've tried) In a game of...
I'm thinking about mimicking an ENO dry fly for deep summer/good weather. Here's a link to it on amazon.
...
I'm thinking about using 3m spray adhesive and folding the edges over (approx 1 1/2" to 2", very similar to factory) I've used the stuff on unrelated projects with outstanding success.

Yes, but it's a frame, not a post. Usually has a crossbar/permanent ridge to take the horizontal force. I've seen them with specially welded commercial brackets, too.
Now, come to think of it, I remember dad making gigantic clotheslines and frames, etc out of 4x4's using guy lines and lag eyes. I remember them being ridiculously strong. because this is...
As for the depth...check out your local building codes on deck posts. There is a reason for certain depths in certain areas, usually it's frost. You don't want frost to heave that post up or off...
Wow. That was exactly what I was looking for, thank you. I never dreamed that you could sew that stuff. I was gonna contact cement it.
Hey y'all. I've been wanting to make a small tarp for summer and fair weather trips, but I don't have money for custom tarps. I don't like tyvek, and I have many many miles, so to speak, using...
I got 1/8" reflective line that came in a 4 pack with proper sized figure 9 clips. each line is like 6' long, or so. They are the cat's pajamas.

I have a Chinook Tarp I got for $35 on Amazon, shipped free. It's massive. I like it a lot. Mine is 9 1/2 x 12, but I think there is a 14' version too. Your choices are Forest Green or Desert...
+1 excellent tip
nice. Im using a PLUQ and I have a swiss military fleece sleeping bag liner. (its THICK..a bag unto itself) I can go down close to freezing if I put my tarp in "winter" mode.

Can it be manditory to place country, and state/province in the group hang thread titles? It is soooooooooooo difficult to keep up with these things as it is, and this would save lots of time for...
Check out emmrods and pennfishingrods. I own both and have great luck with each. They fill very different roles, though. I could pull stumps with my emmrod, but the penrod is a superultralight rod...
but what about squash blocks and bridging?? I'm teasing. I didn't mean to come on too strong. My "small business owner injury liability spider senses" were just tingling a little. It's...
thats a nice concept, but i wouldn't hang from it. that thing will twist, trust me. As for the fasteners...16d nails only have about a 300-400lb shear strength and screws are way less than that. ...
I am a carpenter in Michigan. DEFINITELY get a 10' 4x4 pressure treated post and sink it 4' with a 60lb bag of quickcrete in the bottom. plumb stick is always a must as well.
If you need any...
+1. I've used this in the 50 degree range. It got me through the night, but DON'T DO IT MAN. You wake up with a shudder...instantly. :scared:
It really looks well made. I like the pack size and weight of it for a cold weather option. Is it just a design flaw making it too restrictive?
I am a brand new member here and am still getting to know people, but I would like to say that I appreciate the grace and respect you just displayed to all of us. Takes a big man to know his limits.
So I made a mistake diagnosing my issues. I wake up cold every night and FEEL wet, but have never been awake enough to tell the difference. It's not actually sweat or condensation. I'm just cold. ...
nice stuff man. you should be proud. I'll bet hangs are even more special for you now. thanks for the info.
cool site..thanks man.
haha. I've spent WAY TOO MANY nights with one. Unfortunately I could be considered an expert
it does help, thank you. did you use anything along with it, or was it just the liner and your bag?
well yeah....it's all the trees man. there's more room between them than under them. :D Welcome.
Okay, another question guys. Does anyone have actual experience using a space blanket under their hammock draped like an UQ? The quality tarp kind (5'x7') I mean. In theory it will block wind and...
haha, no I'm not tied to anything. Just want sumpthin' to get the job done. I also have no money and am trying to get it right the first time. It never fails with me, I always end up having to pay...
I've been reading up on usgi poncho liner underquilts....they look like a very viable option for me. Anybody with experience? (yes ive already read the related threads) I'm talking actual hangtime.
Ill look into it. Glad it works for you, but my pack is....unorthodox. Can't just "throw" stuff in there. Thanks for the suggestion.
I dabble in diy. What do you use as bottom insulation, pad or UQ? If you made your UQ then I'm interested in how you did it. Actually, I'm interested in your entire setup if you don't mind...
What is the MOST compact UQ available. In other words, what UQ is gonna pack down the smallest. I can work with different temp ratings, but I need place to start and it's gotta be SMALL.
vitamin water,eh? hmm. I could probably deal with that.
Here's the problem....I pack in a hunting waist pack. I could care less about weight. I need compactness. I can rig pads on this setup pretty well, but UQs seem a little bulky. I tend to...
Quigleyman here. I'm new to camping, newer to lightweight backpacking, and newest to hammocking....only got about three nights in one.
I own one hammock, a Grand Trunk Ultralight in camouflage. ...
What if there was a breathable layer between you and your pad? For example, what if I put a wool blanket or thin fleece fabric on top of my pad? What do you think that would do?
I LOVE reflectix, but I get so much condensation its almost dangerous....i've yet to get a full night's sleep in it. How do I combat this? I really want to just stick to reflectix padding because...
It would be amazingly efficient if you were to glue or tape reflectix on the underside of the ccf waffle pad. All those inefficient grooves turn into efficient air pockets. :D
I've done the space blanket UQ thing and it does break a little wind, but overall it's not a noticeable improvement. It didn't do anything for me. Try it and see what you think though.
Pads as...
