I'm ready to finally order a down UQ after years of using my DIY synthetic quilt.
I've seen lots of posts praising the differential cut to avoid compression of the down. I've also seen many...
I've got a DIY version of the Potomac that I built for winter camping using these instructions: http://www.hammockforums.net/index.php?page=kaq
I built it using 2 layers of 6.0 Climashield, and...
You might have had a defective tree hugger. The 30 degree hang is important to reduce stress on the suspension, but my tree huggers held my 270lbs with the stock ropes for over a year before I...
The only time my zipper got jammed was when some of my sleeping bag got caught up in it. Other than that, no zipper issues at all!
In contrast to the other replies, I haven't used the bottom entry since I had the zip mod done. I find it much easier to get in/out using the zipper.
Wow - ordered on Tuesday and delivered on Thursday! New whoopies going on the HH this weekend!
Thanks to Redden for the excellent service and the discount!
In my opinion, a structural ridgeline as you describe makes sense. I've never had a limb fall on top of me, but I have had one fall near me. Not a fun experience in the middle of the night.
A few weeks ago a fellow scout leader and I bought quilt kits from Paul at AHE. The materials and the customer service were excellent!
I followed these DIY KAQ plans: ...
So, I finished the quilt - went with a double layer of 6.0 climashield. This weekend I'm out with the scout troop and am currently testing how low I can get. I'm in my hammock now and its 18°F and...
Mine too. I kept the bottom opening when I had mod #3 done and I can sleep with the zipper to my left or right. HH uses some industrial strength velcro... I've never even come close to falling...
Just pulled the trigger on a couple of DIY Quilt Kits! I gotta say, I PM'd Paul a few times before making the decision, and his responses were very helpul, very friendly and very, very quick! I...
When I was deciding what side to put the zipper on I had this same idea... just use the head end of the hammock as the foot end instead. I figured that way it doesn't really matter. Glad to hear...
Swampfox is so right...
The UPS man brought me my hammock today. The guys in the office think I'm weird, but I just had to open the box and have a look - the mod is flawless! I couldn't be...
Personally, I wouldn't sew the bug net all the way around. My HH is with ZQ at the moment for a zipper mod - couldn't get over the claustrophobic feeling of the enclosed HH and the pad wrestling...
After deciding that the HH bottom entry method isn't for me - and seeing all the glowing reports here about Tim and Donna - I've sent my Explorer off today for a #3 mod.
I have to say that so far...
Thanks for all the replies everyone, I appreciate it.
I tried searching for this but came up empty, so sorry if my newbie question has been covered before...
Would it work to put a CCF pad in between the hammock and an UQ for really cold nights? I...
I'd like to add that once I contacted A1 about my screwed-up order they responded quickly and seem willing to work with me, but I can't get over that shipping charge! This in no way reflects on WBG...
Make sure you contact them and confirm your order and the final price plus shipping. I ordered 3 yards, got charged for 4 plus another $43 shipping. I also never got an email with the final price...
Thank you nacra533 for the sewing info and the link, which will hopefully save me a bit of frustration when switching from canvas to ripstop.
And Thank You to BillyBob58 for your reply as well,...
That's what I thought when I first saw the DIY directions. I've made boat covers out of canvas before, but have never used anything as light as ripstop nylon. I think I'll give it a try. I've...
Thanks guys, but I'm not sure I'm looking for something commercially available. I have read that the KAQ and the SS are nice for what you get, but I'm thinking of something more 'custom' - something...
Hi All,
Now that I have my first hammock (HH Explorer) and I've actually crawled inside, I'm thinking about making a DIY UQ. Because I live in upstate NY and will be camping with the scouts from...
Today I took my brand-new Explorer from it's bag and hung it for the first time. Because it's raining today and didn't want to get my new toy wet, it's hanging in the garage. After taking a nap in...
Hi All,
I've been lurking here and dreaming of owning my own hammock since I first encountered hammock camping back in April on a Boy Scout trip with my son. Several of the other adults had...
