The campsites only had 4 tent pads each. Of course I was able to stray a bit into the trees. Each site was full most nights. The area I was in is a less travelled area as well so fewer people...
Was out for a few nights in the backcountry of Waterton Park July 18 to 22. Here's the report...

Heading to Goat Lake for 1 night, then on to Twin Lakes for 2. Trail reports indicate snow in some areas. Perfect!
I've never had an issue with this. And of course, not all tent pads have trees that work.
I wondered if anyone would get it. Good catch!
I have 10 days off coming up. Was thinking about crossing into Montana/Idaho. Any suggestions for a few days in the bush?
Is this mid-mid life crisis?
No, it was 6am and they were all still sleeping. Good thing I had the video for proof.
I have the Helinox Chair One which is lower to the ground and the Helinox Camp Chair which is higher and has a longer back. Both are seen in the video. Both set up in seconds and are very sturdy.
There were no bugs, yet! I have read that the mosquitos can be quite bad here when they hatch.
The chairs are both Helinox, very light and portable. And...a kilometre is .621 of a mile!
This was my son-in-laws first backcountry and hammock trip. He did well even through the bad weather.

Going to do a fairly easy hike, flat, about 12k to Jacques Lake and spend a couple of nights out there. Maybe see some snow falling overnight? It will be the first use of some new hammock gear. Also...
I usually go up into the mountains. It gets quite cool up there at night so the extra warmth is appreciated. One of my favourite spots is not accessible until mid June because the lake you need to...
I've had a new HG 0 degree Burrow, Incubator and WB XLC since February. I haven't had the chance to use them yet. It's like getting a bike for Christmas and living in the snow. Wanted to go out this...

Looked like a great trip! And a history lesson as well.
Certainly not what you want to read...

All I can do is wait and see.
I thought we were a branch office of the USA?
Like you, I'm in Canada too. This is not unusual. Wait until Canada Customs get the package. If it's what I think it is, they may hold it for 2 weeks, maybe longer. I'm waiting for something from...
Just changed mine out like TallPaul did
I ordered an XLC about 10am Thursday. WB sent it out an hour later. It arrived on my desk at 130pm Friday. Denver to Edmonton. It looks like it left Denver Friday early am. Check the routing. Wow!

In all probability, two of us will be coming out for Saturday night, arriving some point during the day.
I'm still here. Was thinking about Elk Island between Christmas and New Years but got sick.
Hi Trixie, from Edmonton. Welcome to the forums. This is your warning to watch your wallet!

The sooner you do it the better. You'll not regret it.

Good to see you posting again Bill. And as usual, nice shots of your yard.
I am so jealous of what you all have down south of the border in terms of trails. Where i live, its a 4 hour drive to the mountains to trails. It's spectacular once you get there but it's getting...
What about the length of the dogbone/strap? To me a longer dogbone/strap, the flatter the pole will lay and possibly then become in contact with the top of the tarp. A shorter dogbone/strap would...
That looks like a pretty nice place to paddle. It also looks like there would be a chance of getting lost! The nice thing about a canoe is you can fit a dog into it, not so much a kayak. It'll be...
Great, about the same time as the new redesigned speed hooks are released!
Fishing season closed at the end of September. These guys just hung around the shore teasing me, not that I would have caught one if I had tried!
Maligne Lake water temperatures average 4c or 39F all year round. When in the kayak, the interior does get cold, especially if you have a skirt on enclosing the cockpit, which you do need on this...
This was a two night stay over halfway down Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park before the snow really starts to fly and the lake freezes over.

I use a piece of an old shower curtain. Pretty cheap at the dollar store.
Thanks for the video MisterS. That is a great test. It looks like your poles are touching the top of your tarp. Did you notice any wear from the constant movement and rubbing (if any) of the pole on...
I think there is enough evidence in other posts that Dutch's mod works fine. I will let you know how they work for me. It might be a while though, winter is on its way here in northern Alberta. It...
Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried to rig the pullouts in the same way Brandon shows in his video. I have decided to give the pole mod a try after giving it some thought. The shovel idea wasn't...
This weekend was my first use of my new Superfly. The tarp itself was great, although there were really no conditions to need a tarp except for the cold (-9c).
However, I had a couple of issues with...
this weekend, off to paddle Maligne Lake in Jasper for 2 nights. Snow and -7c (19f) on Saturday predicted. Perfect!!
Will also be the first test of the new Superfly.
Hey Pingu, welcome from Edmonton!
My mother was Scottish. When I was a kid she was always telling me to "Wheesht(?). I found out many years later that it basically meant shut up!
I've done 2 trips to Jasper in the last month. Check out my videos. The first was in a campground so it doesn't really count. The second was up the Fryatt Valley Trail. You gave to be very aware of...
Great you saw some wildlife! We often see bears here in Northern Alberta. It's exhilarating but you need to be careful. Always remember we are in their neighbourhood so treat them with the respect...
First times are always special. Mine was about 20f. I'll always remember it. Lots for you to look forward to!
