Does anyone know what the rules are about hanging in the Rocky Mountain National Park? Specifically in the Lake Nakoni area off of the North Inlet Trail. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Try it! This doesen't seem too expensive to at least try. If it doesn't work, you may have a sore butt and a little concrete to remove.
Well, my trail name is Wood! It's been a nockname since I became an adult! A co-worker called me Hollywood for a while because of the Oakley sunglasse that Iwore all of the time. It took about 90...

My brother & I arrived at the NCT trail head late on friday evening. We hiked until we had to set up camp. Oh yeah, I sprained my ankle on the very first day! The next morning, we attacked the NCT...
The MRT/ NCT 20 mile loop hike was un-believably Amazing! Pics & video coming soon! I am BEAT. We did the whole loop in less than 44hrs.
I was mainly concerned about te section that links the North and South end of the MRT. I shoud have been more specific. Thanks for te reply!
How strenuous is the the southern portion of the NCT?
Thanks Caveman, Go Spidey, & Gimpy! The hike was great. I just wished I could have done the whole thing. The hike back out at my own pace was better! Here's a few pics from my hike back out.

It looks like I'll be joining ya'll for the first few miles. See everyone at Juniper Point at 10!
Do ya'll have a GPS on the Western parking area that you're meeting at? I may join in for a few hours in then back out on my own. That is if the wife doesn't have me hemmed up. A couple of hours...
Not gonna be there this weekend, but 5/3 - 5/6 is a go! My brother and I are headed up from Louisiana & Texas. We'll get a late start on Friday heading North on the NCT from Red bridge. We'll find...
Well, gotta put the thread injection on hold until I get a new "heavy duty" needle and a replacement for the one that I broke. I was attempting to sew reflectix together to make a puoch coozie! ...
I made these 2 stake bags on my "thread injector" all by myself.
Now i should get to making my hammock!
I would love to take the opportunity to hike/ hang on this trail since it's soclose to home. However, I have a commitment on sunday. It would be a good shake down for my MRT/ NCT 23 miler in...
Sounds like a good time. Not too far from DFW! I might just make the trip.
My brother and I will be traveling from Louisiana & Texas to hike the MRT/ NCT loop in Michigan in early May. We have no earthly idea of what type of weather to expect or what kind of wildlife that...
Thanks for the tips, but I have a question about the bear thing. Do I need to have an actual bear bag or will any bag do as long as we hang it down wind from camp site and 200 ft cross wind from...
Welcome from DFW!
Don't forget about the mosquitos the size of condors, which could carry a 250 lb man off!

No doubt! Thursday night, there was either coyotes or some dogs making a racket for my first hang. Luckily I got abou 6 hrs of off and on sleeping.
Ok, but I'd bet it's colder in Souther Illinois. Still looks like South Louisiana to me. Glad you had a good trip!
That looks like South Louisiana!
I used a Walmart sleeipng bag, zipped all the way up, and a 1" inflatable full length sleeping pad from Academy.
Brute, I would advise other first nighters to do their research before heading out. Watch the tonsof videos available by Shug & others and read "The Ultimate Hang".
Well, i've got to be honest. It was all good until about 5am. The temps dipped to about 35 F. I finished off in the warm truck. I've got to get a good top quilt and under quilt if i'm gonna hang...
Thanks Klauss!
Lake Murray State Park, Ok!

The no-see-um isn't that expensive anyways! It's a whole lot cheaper if you can do the thread injection yourself, plus it gives you a sense of accomplishment. If the wife bucks the idea, you could...
They refunded me part of the shipping costs! They got a better rate and passed it on to me! A REAL CLASS ACT! I will order from them again!
Ask, and you shall receive!
Try and call Lake View park. It's 3 miles North of Eunice, La. & a private park at that. Call them and ask about hammock camping! Here's the link.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I do think it would be great to get everyone in NTX together to talk gear! I am looking forward to meeting many of you!
Just North of Lake Charles sits Sam Houston Jones State Park. Excellent scenery on the Calcasieu river! They have a large number of primitive sites with excellent views.
Cool! I usualy travel to OKC a few ti,es a year! Maybe we can hook up for coffee or lunch when I'm in town!
I am just staring out here in Nort Texas! I am definately imterested in making my own hammock and tarp, but I am not too sure about the wintertime hanging! Shug sure makes it look easy in his...
