i would be in for the endurance sleeping and synchronized hammock swaying.
i always bring insulation, even when its 80 here in oregon the nights get pretty cold. a few nights a year might be warm enough to go without.

Fun times. I am now starting to take my 2yo daughter on backpacking and camping trips with me. All she wants to do is ride in the backpack and see waterfalls.
getting your hammock ready for winter hanging can get expensive real quick
you should go with the steak, then go with oldgringos idea and replace the tree by next spring.
for car camping i like the clark jungle hammock, but when your thinking about weight and size you should go the diy way

i put all my gear in my bag with the liner under me or in my hammock. i just use a couple of sticks to raise it an inch or so off the ground.

i made my quilt out of a light weight mummy bag it covers both top and bottom. not much sewing and keeps me warm in 3 seasons here in oregon.
i am definitely guilty on the diy side of it, but with work i say it's about a 20 minute drive. really it is about 10, if i don't do it this way i wont be late as often. but when i make my hammock...
I never even knew of all this hammock forums stuff. I just bought an eno years ago for fun, and decided I could make it better, warmer, lighter, and easier to use. And started making met own stuff....
