Awesome job, SurfinBirdman.
Still haven't found a frame that's anywhere near this size.

Awesome job, SurfinBirdman.
Still haven't found a frame that's anywhere near this size.
All of them are either the smaller exercise tramps or the typical 12'+ trampolines. No 8' frames in...
I try to maximize the good things in life.
I'm so addicted to hammocks that I sleep in one every night that I possibly can.
I have a hammock stand in my room.
I took it to New Orleans last month...
Since this is in the "weather protection" forum, I don't want to limit this discussion to tarps. All over / under quilts and bedding should come to mind as well.
I just have a rectangular tarp at...
$18 for the Grand Trunk Ultralight Hammock....

Bug socks are the way to go if you have a small bag to keep it protected when not...
I am more than likely going to try that "black out" cloth.
If it's really canvas like, then it won't stretch a whole lot.
Upon second look, they actually have a white canvas-like material at...
Pressure points suck.
It's really more about the sway in ALL directions, instead of just rocking in a straight line. The lack of feeling upward forces, along with the centripetal (centrifugal??)...
No pressure points!!
Finally had a chance to take some pictures.
It looks less impressive than I had originally pictured in my head, but it still hangs better than the rest.
I'll use chains instead of Amsteel Blue....
Hmm.... that could possibly work.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Just trying to piece things together before I start placing orders.
Fabric for what???
For this, of course --> http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51490
I will look into the two sites suggested. But I did also find another option.... custom...
I'd prefer not to attach fabric together.
Would I be able to buy the sail from a sail boat??
... a 9 ft. flag??
...........????

Why would there be a hole in my ceiling??
Dunno how I'll hang it for sure just yet, but clearly, people do it, as can be seen on the manufacturer's website. I'm thinking about just using...
I'd like to see that if you can still find it.
;)
Excellent!!!
You'll likely have to wait for SurfinBirdman's build before you see what the trampoline version looks like, as I just can't bring myself to buy a brand new hammock in order to destroy...
Where do you suppose the pressure points on the Floating Bed would be found?? The "sheet" is suspended in air, just like a hammock... but this has a frame that keeps all sides "flat", unlike a...
While not exactly a hammock, the Floating Bed is probably your only option...
It is, obviously, NOT portable, however.
If this is an indoor situation, then a VERY large bridge hammock could...
I use this one...

I recommend the Floating Bed....

I purchased this "portable hammock stand"...
Awesome!!
Who needs college when they've got hammocks?
I somehow missed this line.
What trampolines are you on that have pressure points?????
The only possible bit are the springs, which should be removed. Ideally, you'd want an 8 ft ring with the...
I do not believe that memory foam would erase all pressure points of the bed. But I am not a bed expert. I moved from a futon with thin mattress (huge mistake) --> futon with thicker mattress with...
I'm VERY interested!!! :boggle:
I should be riding my bike near the casino and will take pics of the "official" outdoor version later today. Will post them up by tomorrow.
Knotty, there is...
The Floating Bed company themselves actually sell it...
for $590!!!

I believe the comfort is greater than any hammock I've been in. Bridge [& spreader bar]...
The one at the hard rock didn't really look like that one, which is the one primarily featured on the floatingbed.com website.
The Hard Rock one only had 4 chains holding up the platform. And,...
I don't think it needs to be very light at all.
According to the magical Interwebz, the 7/64" Amsteel Blue is rated to hold 1,600 lbs. If you have a long enough rope, cut into 4 pieces.... you...
Hahaha......
Hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Kissing cousins!!!
Funny guy, this one.
Soo... I've been thinking.
I could just use the cheapest, thinnest Amsteel if I'm using 4 lines to hold up an 8 ft diameter platform.
But what will my 8 ft platform "ring" be made of???
...
I posted about this elsewhere, in a much older thread that someone was looking for a "bedroom setup".
But this Floating Bed deserves a thread or three of its own.
...
I came here to post about the Floating Bed ( www.floatingbed.com ) that I just saw at a Casino/Hotel.
THE THING IS AMAZING!!!!
I have a hammock stand in my room, but it's really only good with...
That makes me feel extra special then. :shades:
Here's what I've got now, which I'm pretty happy with....
The ends of the hammock were sewn snuggly for 3/4" PVC pipe. I got 1/2" wide iron...
That's what I told my friend! ... that a bridge hammock gets its name from the suspension going down the sides. But we both agreed it would be easier this way. I guess it was up until finding a...
Here ya go....
Added the rebar inside the PVC pipe. It was working great, kept the pipe as straight as possible.
I tightened the suspension triangle whoopie sling as tight as possible. I got...
So now that I've looked at the hammock again, I can see how increasing spreader bar length to 30" or so would tighten the middle up, which is th whole point of the bridge hammock.
As long as the...
16" is the way the original hammock was setup. It was actually pretty good -- laid pretty flat.
We had two 28." spreader bars already made, so we decided to test those out first.... but...
I am making a replacement bridge hammock for a "portable hammock stand" that I purchased a few months back.
Hammock stand is AWESOME, but the bridge hammock that came with the stand had a net that...
Wow...
This thread has officially become a classic. Too bad I can't quote your attached pics.
Great job, tho!! Looks pretty tough to beat.
This actually just happened to me yesterday.
I call them "naps".
I really did have one yesterday that I just didn't want to wake up from, but I couldn't rest my mind. It was kinda strange. ...
turtlelady, I haven't tried this myself yet, but the design is awesome.
I stumbled across this thread when searching to see if anybody had purchased a specific "portable hammock with steel frame...
I just purchased a "high-grade foldable hammock w/ japanese ball bearings" to replace my el cheapo metal k-mart futon that places way too may pressure points on my body, esp. when I made it even...
What's the difference between a recurve and "takedown longbow"??
That Kukri blade is pretty slick, too! Was debating whether to get a hatchet, machete, or both... but that would prolly be best!
I haven't gotten around to assembling my first "baby rocker" just yet, but ideas are flowing.
I've got all the wood I need. I've got the 22"x36" fabric hemmed and whipped up to about 22"x30"...
Just thought I'd share some specs and, also, some pics I took from my first hang. It was a joyous day.
Here's the weight of my basic setup...
Hammock - 262 g
Carabiners - 56 g (28 g each)...
Also...
Would I be correct in thinking that tighter, horizontal suspension will lead to more perpetual swaying than something like what's found in the OP (loose, vertical suspension)??
Hmm... ...
You mean like one of these?

So I should be going for absolute breathability, then??
What would...
Hah. Yea, it's for Alexa too!
Of course, safety first, tho.
What parent wouldn't want a silent, perpetual self-rocking hammock chair for their child??
I tried searching for one, and I did come up with this...

That's not quite the design I had in mind, and it's way pricier than I had in mind, as well.

Hmm... I just might have to try letting it hold itself closed, because I'm lazy like that. I wouldn't have imagined that it would do that, from playing with it at the fabric store...
I was...
Yea, I haven't made my bug sock yet. I'm just wondering if you guys could brainstorm together another way to close the ends besides a drawstring.
I've never sewn before, but now that I think...
Heh...
Perhaps you guys could tell me the best way to "seal" the ends once I've got everything sewn together.
I've been hanging a few hours over the past couple days, and there's actually not...
Thanks. I like options
I'm pretty sure it will be, but I just ordered it early, early this morning... so can't say 100% either way.
And thanks again for the offer, but I think I'm gonna stick...
