    did you tell Whoopie ...

that you had a Hennessy when you ordered your sling(s). They ask you to do that. I think its because they need to make the sling a little longer for whipping the hammock.

    cuben hammocks

go to backpackinglight.com and enter "cuben hammock" (including the quotation marks). When I did, I found 25 entries.

If you don't have time to look, I can tell you that I wouldn't be buying...

You're breaking new ground here as far as I know. All I can recommend is you hang close to the ground while you evaluate the adequacy of only two turns, and check it frequently after that. By the...

It's a little more complicated than that

For starters, if I was a manufacturer, I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt simply because I don't want to hurt anybody. Not all manufacturers are solely business so to screw people out of their...

I'm a little surprised that you only found one hole. I checked mine and there are two. So, I would check with Hennessy first to see if it's a manufacturing defect.

It does take the load off the loop that's not attached to the hammock, but the loop that is attached to the hammock is the one that gets double the load.

put one end through the loop ...

When you do that, you're doubling the load on the tree hugger. Normally each loop takes half the load. When you make a noose around the tree, one loop takes the entire load.

    preference

Actually, it's not a really matter of preference for me. It's more one of not having any complaints. When I tented, I had complaints.

My share of the tent weight was 16 oz. because my wife and...

    yer too much!

Yeah, I stagger under the load, but what can you do? All the equivalent BB setups weigh more and don't convert to capes.:)

Actually, they do say how much their tarp weighs. 8.25 oz. That puts their hammock at 17.75 oz.

Furthermore, until proven otherwise, I'm going to accept both manufacturer's weight rating...

My Hyperlight Backpacker weighs 26 oz. with tarp. According to the web site, all the Blackbirds weigh more than that when you add a tarp. Whether or not it's a significant amount is up to the...

Well, things will drop through the door when you're exiting if you're not careful. Other than that I like it just fine.

    huh?

I've had a Hyperlight since February. I just followed their lashing directions; rope through both loops, three figure eights; works fine, never slips, never jams. Why exactly do you want to do it...

    The free scout.

That was one of the most generous promotions ever. I got a free scout with my Hyperlite. It's a spartan setup, but it's been useful as a loaner to friends who want to try hammock camping before...

    It's not rocket science ...

I've hung with my Hyperlight for a year and frankly, I just don't get this issue. I lay the pad in the hammock, I climb in and lay on the pad. It just hasn't been a problem for me.

Those look like GG poles. I attached straps on my wife's poles at her behest. I used nylon cable ties. What did you use?

    Camper's motto

My motto is: If you absolutely positively have to have it in the morning, bring it inside.

I don't ever want to have to walk out naked and barefoot, other than that, it varies.
