i've thought about that same thing along w/ a trusty strait edge (angle iron?) you could make quick work of cutting out a hammock or what ever.

seems to me that i've noticed the rip stop grids curving, at least if the fabric's been stretched.
then i was trying to smooth it back out flat, but didn't feel comfortable trusting the grid lines.
