Just remember to keep that sucker as wide as possible. the wider it is (within reason) the more insulation you will have so less chance for air gaps and slipping of the UQ from under you.

looks great!
locked brummel will leave you with much cleaner look and it will not "come undone" like the stitching has the potential to do. i have done both and have had the stitching fail, but I've never seen...
Anyone from the Lynvhburg VA area going that i could bum a ride from?
Thanks,
-Dan
wouldn't you need to have full width spreader bars to make it like a piece of paper?
-Dan
Is going from around the Lynchburg area that i could hitch a ride with?? i would really appreciate it.
-Dan
Hey I was wondering will there still be bugs around then? its a question to change which hammock i bring.
I am indeed! i saw you work here, pretty awesome to have someone so close by.
-Dan
Hey i would love to come, but i am a college student without a car in lynchburg. Is there anyone who i could hitch a ride with?
thanks,
Dan
hey, i have used amsteel in three bridge hammocks, and it will work fine. you can stitch right through it on the ends to anchor the material to the cord, and keep it from sliding around on you. If...
amsteel is very easy to work with....i think amsteel is always the option...haha
-Dan
if you are worried about excess moisture, you can put a little baby powder or similar powder in the stuff sack with the tarp....it works well
it will probly be worth it to just buy one from the local outfitter like REI because shipping may be kinda expensive...and besides, if you buy a new one, than you have most of a new groundpad for...
id go...depends on the dates, but i am definitely interested...my golden retriever probably is raring to go as well...
-Dan
it is not very hard to sew them on...and at least you would have peace of mind. I think the adhesive would work for awhile, but not for an extended period of time as it gets compressed and stuffed...
sweeeet! i like the concept!
YESSS!!! another Baltimore region hanger!! Welcome from howard county :)
-Dan

-Dan

So i decided i was tired of having just a "lightweight" hammock, so i made a really really light one...
I basically used tzbrown's design, but customized for me. It is only 4 feet wide, and 9...
Hey is anyone from the MD area going that i could hitch a ride? i could meet you along the way...wherever is convenient.
Thanks,
Dan
i do not use anything, i just roll as i go, but you could use things like paperclips or bobbypins...just a thought...
-Dan
if it was me, i would use an SLS with 1/8 inch, but have a section of maybe 3/8inch tubular webbing to slide around the amsteel as a sheath to protect it from abrasion...like how static rope sections...
haha...i actually laughed audibly at this!
-Dan
hey, i show and explain how i made it in this video, and show a couple that are already made.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=382J1d199No&feature=channel_video_title
Thanks,
Dan
hey, it is not one i have made completely...haha but i basically remade it after a friend ripped the tarp/bugnet off on accident! Ill upload some more pics of ones i have made... and i could send a...
not to discount your nice looking work, but i have done it a different way, and i think it is exceptionally easy to make. Basically you take a piece of rectangle-shaped fabric with all sides hemmed,...
hey im in! thanks so much for planning all this!
in regards to a "double layer thingy...i made one... it was a super cheap alternative to an underquilt, that i made the night before a long cold winter backpacking trip. It was basically..... a...

Hey, im getting my gear situated for my AT thru hike, and the next big thing on the list is a 30*(ish) down mummy bag. PM me if you have something laying around.
Thanks,
-Dan
Hey all...im starting to aquire some of the gear i dont already have for my AT thru hike in the summer of next year, so if any of you have a jam in good condition and size med. PM me.
Thanks!
-Dan
that is really cool, have you tested any amount of force on them? like how much would be on them from a breezy night...
-Dan
hey id' be up for a MD hang! those are some great places too.
-Dan
id say make it a diamond config. especially since summer is comming, and rectangles have alot of unused coverage. I made a rectangle and a diamond one before getting a silnylon tarp, and they were...
i made a 11.5' hammock out of 1.9 oz double layer for a friend who is very tall and quite heavy as well...at times over 340lbs. it was 6' wide, and i tested it before i sold it to him- insanely...
you could just tie an over-hand knot on each end, but be sure to put a loop of cord or a rod to act as a jam so that you can get it out if it needs to be adjusted... that is how i had mine for awhile...
what design or pattern did you use?? or did you just have the stuff and wing it on the fly.
Thanks,
Dan
exactly, i have ordered alot of fabric from them, and i am always disapointed by the insane shipping.
-Dan
haha thats one worthy of someone's signature!
-Dan
thanks guys.
ok so i am looking to make some self tensioning guy lines, and i know that tests and results have been made for the different types. Ideally i would make one the same design as opie's, but i hear...
id try an old dusty surplus shop for an old army canvas one, idk seems like canvas would be the best for a base camp since all nylons disintegrate in the UV rays after only a couple of years...
-Dan
it depends what your situation is...are you a backpacker? ultralight? backyard hanger? car camper? if you are carrying it on your back i would say go with some whoopie slings, and make them yourself...
It does! i got a couple hundred feet for like $5 there (braided) and it is good stuff!
