I have the lite owl and I love it. Very roomy and comfortable so I would have to recommend it. I bought the lite owl so I could try a sleeping pad but it's just a hassle to carry compared to a under...
I can't speak for the snipe but the light owl is great, huge comfy hammock that packs up pretty small (less pack space than my Eno somehow). Wilderness logics makes a great hammock. That said I have...
Part of the site works. Only when I try to open a product page does it redirect to the other page. Really strange hope they can figure it out.
"Door bell wire" you can pick it up at any hardware store off a spool, get two feet, strip it down, and your good to go. Think I spent 35 cents for mine and I've only used one of the wires so far.
I'm 6'3" or so and I recently picked up a wilderness logics lite owl ($125 with suspension included) . It has pretty defined head and foot boxes due to small sections of shock cord in the edges of...
Hommes* autocorrect had a different take on your name
Thanks cinnamon. And thank you hobbies. That was what I was looking for but I could have sworn it was posted by Opie. Thanks for pointing that out, I read that thread and must have skipped that page...
My understanding was that the shock cord was a complement to structurally sound lines. ie if the shock cord broke then you still have your tarp secured to the ground not sailing in the wind when you...
I remember a good while back that someone here experimented with slicing shock cord into zing-it and did a tutorial on it but for the life of me I can't find it. If anyone remembers what...
You should be fine, the tarp my fit like a glove over it but it should be enough to keep you dry.
I can't think of anything immediately that you missed. You have most all the bases covered on this one. I think it's also good to know that just because something works great for everyone else (end...
It's the grand trunk ultralight hammock. I'm not sure where it would be cheapest right now but many big retail chains carry them so you may even be able to find it locally.
Kestrel the original use of the dutch clip was for hammock suspension that only use webbing. ie blackbirds and many many other popular hammocks, not for tree straps which would mean that to hang the...
I don't know what kind of witch craft he uses be he can get his gear from Idaho to Alabama in 2 and a half days on regular shipping... I don't know what he did to make that possible but I love it...
That's a great idea. Any ideas how to incorporate tree straps into that? I always keep the whoopies outside the stuff sack and throw the straps somewhere on the outside of my pack. I think dumb luck...
I'm about 6'4". I know lots of people on here love their Enos but no whipping style or rl length got me a good night sleep. Rereading my post it seems a little harsh on the eno but it just didn't fit...
I was pretty upset with my eno and had done everything short of sewing on a few more feet to it when I finally gave into buying a new hammock. After finding a lot of tall peoples seal of approval...
Thanks for the insight lazy river road, that makes sense. I just saw a video on here today, rip waverly's I think, that made a good case for custom setups. He had one side with doors the others...
Thanks for clearing up my spinn questions, sounds like a real headache for everyone. :(
I've been watching and reading reviews on here all afternoon and it seems that people who buy cuben tarps go...
It's been a little while since I have been active on this site and I'm trying to get caught up on all the new goodies. Last I checked Spinn UL was the latest greatest but seems to have been eclipsed...
Roll tide and welcome this place has a ton of great guides for anything and everything you will need. It just takes a little while to soak it all up.
Arrowhead Equipment and Whoopieslings.com are good choices with fair prices. I think you can buy the raw material from them also if you so choose. And if you want absurd quantities reddenmarine has...
I'm skeptical... try to make sense of the botched translation at the bottom of the ad. The girl in the picture looks like she's trapped in it too. And who has heard of scuba/hammocking? Looks like...
Ease of setup. On the webbing setup it is required since passing the entire hammock through the the eyes isn't practical. On whoopie setups etc it seems to be more of a personal preference. They...
Unless you have that loft kit with the extra stabilizing bar on the bottom I would not attempt it. I experimented with this last semester and I would give it a big thumbs down on the standard bed. ...
pencil me in. as long as nothing pops up I should be able to head over.
What would be the best way to get there from birmingham?
Redden marine has good prices on it. the hf discount works on zing/lash it also.
Last time I searched they had the lowest price even without the extra discount
I'm about to make a poncho liner uq if it ever shows up in the mail...
I've asked dejoha some questions about his setup and he was very helpful. most of the members that know something on here are...
or weapons...
Got rid of mine when they started eating my webbing and whoopies. devilish things. good new is you can buy them at the depot for 2 bucks a pair. on a serious note though what...
Most fabric stores (locally joann/hancock) stock a 110" sleeping bag zipper that is separable. The ones around here run about 15$ or so.
A local boating/marine store might have some but I never found any. These guys are pretty good. Quick shipping and at one point they had a discount for us (might still work). ...
don't patents expire after a hundred years or so if nothing comes of them?
yep that the place. that really would be a good spot for a gathering. some of the other places that come to mind are, umm, less that desirable. it was quiet enough last time I went that we might...
If thats in the general direction of pickwick then I think I've been there. nice spot. haven't been back out of shame. it was a scouting trip... left the tent poles at the house... slept in the bed...
having a link to some of dejoha's basic hammocking posters would be an easy way for people to visualize these new terms... helped this idiot anyways :D
I know there were some other people that had...
You're going to want more room. It's like a queen size bed vs baby crib if you don't get one big enough. You may not always use the extra room but I know there's nights when I have to roll around...
Not sure how a bb and a one person tent compare size wise but it'd seem they would be equally claustrophobic. She must have something against being aloft. ymmv I suppose
I know the ridgeline is personal as to length but on my 10' diy the ridgeline is much shorter than any I have read about. 101" is a popular number but that just ends up being slack and hangs almost...
Not sure if this was mention but I unhook my suspension from the tree on the bag end then hook the suspension line (fully shortened whoopie w/ biner) to a pocket, belt, etc. that way I don't have to...
Not sure about alternatives but I just got a set from paul yesterday and I'm happy with them. They come with a means of attaching to the hammock and seemed very light weight to me. The setup...
The gf got to try it out yesterday and decide she wanted hers to be more like mine so we cut it back to 10'. She's happy with it and that's what really matters. I didn't have my camera last night...
It's 58" to start with minus maybe an inch to hem the raw edge. I guess the main reason I was planning on trimming back as it's not for me but my gf who is about 5'2". Seemed like over kill but...
Before I reveal my own stupidity lets get a little background on how this all came about.
So yesterday after a solid day of working out in the sun I decided it was finally time to make a hammock out...
Oh and when you finish digging said holes your back is gonna need that hammock:lol:
Kind what he said. If you use wood get it below frost line. Where I live its about 2 1/2 feet to be up to code for load bearing structures (decks etc) but we rarely get snow or really cold weather....
I could be completely wrong but I think its more a matter of surface area than materials used. Because the webbing is only better than cord because it distributes the load over a greater surface...
there is a button on the bottom right of each person's text box thingy ---------->
Nice poster selection. Now if only I could put one of those type stands in my dorm room....
I have a couple of links I like but one of the regulars here probably has some better input than...
