I'd like to see pics of that if you have/can get some!

At least you got a response, I never got a reply to any of my emails.
mcgyver, Sportsmansguide has a great return policy AND sells the poncho liners. Trade it in.
For an inexpensive short-term fix, you can go to any fabric store and get some fabric and make one. 4 yards of pretty much anything heavy enough to support your weight and at least 4-5 feet wide will...
I agree with Jimmy. I never caught what goal was supposed to be. Building a base camp on the lake where he was catching fish should have been a no-brainer if surviving for 90 days was the goal. I'd...
While not exactly the "tropical" print you might have in mind, I found some snakeskin print nylon on ebay. It was labeled as ripstop, but I think what looked like a ripstop pattern may have been part...
It's taken a while for me to get around to it, but here are a few of the pics I took that weekend.
It was a great time at a beautiful park and I met some really nice folks!
edit: In the first...
Howdy yall! I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it, so I stayed out of the thread/list. Turns out I'm free and will be there! I haven't made reservations yet so I hope there's still room close to...
Just a thought... Maybe a layer or two of raw insultex or something similar placed between your hammock and UQ would get you down to the temps you'll be experiencing without having to buy a whole new...
Thanks wirerat. You are quite right, exactly what I'm looking for but pricey! If it were available in camo/silver, I might pull the trigger. :-)
I sure don't. When I bought it I didn't have a digital scale. Comparing it to the 1.5oz I got from BWDD, I would guess the 1.6 oz on this fabric is before being coated. I could be wrong though.
The problem with having all that Willie, Waylon, and Cash on a backpacking trip is the lack of an ice chest of cold Shiner Bock!
I got the same fabric from the same seller and the tarp I made with it works great. Buy with confidence.
I used an 8x10 poly tarp over my hammock when I first started hanging & it worked fine. It had blue on one side & silver on the other. It looked cool and the silver side could be used to reflect heat...
I made a reversible top quilt with flannel on one side and a satin-ish fabric on the other side. It works pretty well. All fabrics were found in the reduced bin at wally world. Cost was under $8...
Really? 70 deg is too hot? If so, stay away from south Texas! During the warmer months the night time lows are usually around 80 degrees and that temp sometimes doesn't happen till after 4 a.m....
A couple of my many DIY hammocks were made with nylon taffeta and they work great. I think the love for the "rip-stop" comes from the added durability and level of safety that results from the...
Unfortunately, all the good hammock sites are not the sites for avoiding skeeters. The bayfront sites usually have a steady, mosquito-scattering breeze but have nowhere to hang.
Oysterfest is a...
I'm interested, keep us posted.
Just curious about Lake Georgetown, the information I could find shows the two parks are closed indefinitely for repairs. Are there other places to camp? I'd think...
The black will leave a dark tinge on your fingers after fiddleing with it.
I don't do a lot of cold weather backpacking, (hell, there isn't much cold weather in south central Texas anyway! lol) but I've been good down around the mid 50's with the Z-lite and a down bag.
That's what I was thinking you were talking about.
Isn't it ccf on the bottom and open cell on top?
Just brainstorming, but I wonder if an inflatable pad might work. It wouldn't need to be...
OOPS! I guess I read over the part about going to the ground...
When that's the case I take a Thermarest Z-lite pad. It is ccf, but folds down like an accordion and is surprisingly comfy on the...
I'm not sure what you mean by "dual foam", but if there's any open cell foam involved there will be a bulkiness penalty as well as issues with it holding moisture like a sponge. For us Texans (more...
I've used a rectangular bag in a similar manner as Gargoyle's mummy mod and even the larger size of the rectangular bag was confining and laying off-center (flat) wasn't an option. An underquilt is a...
CCF= Closed Cell Foam
That's what the blue pad is.
You mentioned goats, so they'll need a shed/stalls. I've hung very comfortably in a 3 sided horse stall (sans horse, of course but I did have a table and ice chest w/ adult beverages ;)) in west...
Not to hijack the thread, but...
As a fellow Texan kayaker, I'd love to hear more about that trip! I've been wanting to paddle the ICW for a few years. Thought about making a sail to help with the...
I'm 6'4", 210 lbs. While I haven't tried any of the commercially made hammocks, my advice is to make sure whatever you decide on is at least 10' long and has a structural ridgeline of about 100"...
"I imagine it's quite a hike on a hot day." from elephant tusk.
You are very correct, sir. In October a buddy and I hiked the Dodson Trail. It was in the 90's during the day and was, indeed, quite...
I'm in the "materials acquisition" phase of making an underquilt. My budget is pretty tight right now so I decided to bust into a mattress topper (bought from sportsmans guide 8-9 yrs ago) that I...
Last weekend, a buddy (ground dweller) and I went camping. He forgot his sleeping pad and I (being a good friend) let him use my zlite pad on the rocks. I had a space blanket in my pack and used it...
Howdy yall! I found this old thread after kicking around an idea in my head and I figured I'd run it up the proverbial flagpole.
I've also have and use the M-1949 (though not often in south Texas!)...
