Well, I got to REI and buy the silnylon stuff sack that I think is closest, then I take it home and try it. If it doesn't fit, I return it and get the next size until I have the right one. REI is...
Thanks for the link. I was wondering where I was gonna get one since the original company has long since gone. This machine was my Grandmother's, and might have been her Mother's as well.
Good luck with your design. I hope you get what you want out of it!
That's fantastic! A little boot UQ. Maybe a similar attachment as a standard UQ?
What about a good ridge bag? I know that having someplace to put a book, flashlight, wool hat, and the like, is a nice touch. Or perhaps an "entrance mat" somewhere you can take your shoes off and...
Also, please educate yourself on the many types and uses of various knots. I have had a knot that I "thought" was good enough give out in mid hang. Falling onto a pile of brush in the middle of the...
I seem to remember something in "The Ultimate Hang" that talked about hammock length and the required attachment height for a comfortable hang. I think I settled for about 10' for that reason. But...
Love the hammock, and the hang is classic. Chase the kids off their swingset, gotta find a good spot.
Those chairs are fantastic! Can you hang it from a tree with no other support?
Good point... where were we?
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I'm still using a Marine ILBE. A bit heavy, but really tough.
Did we ever figure out the temperature rating?
Good looking blades, I should have checked this out sooner.
I missed this one too? Doesn't anyone on here have to work?
If only it was a large instead of reg. Oh well.
Congrats! sounds like a sweet deal!
Dchrismer, jump on it while you can, it's a deal!
Ah, darn it, wrong size for me. Maybe I should hike more?
I have heard of people making a tarp of three pieces of fabric (center and two wings). Obviously, with the right seam sealing, it could be done. The idea of the three piece was to avoid having the...
Is that a treadle machine? I have one, but it needs a new (leather) belt.
Turtle Creek, if you have a bit to use, I would like to make a ground cloth and/or a small shoe-keeper for hammocking. Let me know if it's available?
I never really thought about hanging inside a sleeping bag, but I suppose that would give a TQ and an UQ at the same time. Just a bit tight I would think.
Keep us updated on the down finds. But DIY Gear does have down proof fabrics.
Thanks for the heads up review! I will certainly make Scott my go to guy for ordering any more DIY items.
And, what are the dimensions of a good hammock sock? What size material did you start with?
You might try washing the fabric. Even try using some fabric softener. The worst that happens is you end up throwing it out (which you were going to do anyway). If it makes it a bit more pleasant...
IMHO, I would do a very specific design for your use, and your individual hammock only. Do you have a 12' ridge line? Then do you need 12' of top pipe? When you hang your hammock in minimal length...
I would be cautious using climbing anchors. They are designed to be used in rock, not in wood. They could either break the studs you are trying to tie them into, or slip out. My advice, be very...
I used 3/8" x 3" eye bolts. Pre drilled and then screwed them into the 2x4 studs in opposite walls. Since my room is only 10' across, I used a diagonal to give me about 11'. I hung the eye bolts...
My only suggestion is to move to Dyneema. Or Spectra. But your setup seems to be doing a great job!
My wife thinks I'm crazy. I sunk a couple of eye bolts into the walls of my office, about 11' apart, and I hang the hammock to sleep when I get too restless in the bed.
Bump. It's a good deal, but I already have mine set up.
Ringtail, you selling off all your gear?
Once again... missed.
I guess there's not much point in asking if it's cat-cut or not?
I have a Gregory Z40 pack, but it's a large, and might be to big for him.
Hmmm... I wonder if I buy two pairs could I put one leg into each? I think that's the only way a small would fit.
And once again... too late :(
Interesting concept. But I think I would have to see some long term feedback first. I am always very careful about where I send and get money from.
Darn, too late again :(
Did you say you did or did not know the manufacturer?
