Ive been a full time hanger for about 3 years now. Dont really remember what sleeping in a bed feels...
I just did this last weekend...-20ish. Check out my thread "wish me luck". Its still on the first page.
Anyways, I think that will be sufficient for quilts. The tarp is a huge plus for knocking...
Valley Scout...I try to keep the clothes to a minimum for a few reasons.
One, Im simply not comfortable sleeping when im wearing alot of clothes.

Ok guys...made it.
Was going to give u a report by the morning fire and a hot cup of coffe, but the wind is brutal, so just decided to come back in the house...lol.
Anyways, it went great. ...

Might grab a small pad too....just in case.
Ill be out back on my property...about 10...
Gotcha...guess I missed out anyways...
Luckily someone else just put one up for sale....jumped on it...haha.
Good luck with your sales.

For the Burrow...
You say comes with stuff sack ONLY...
As opposed to what else?
Not being a smart guy...just curious if its supposed to come with something else.
Payment sent...Thnx!

Whats the difference between a TQ, like a high sierra sniveller...
and a multi function, like an old rag?
Hey Barren...I did a motorcycle hammock trip around Lake Superior in late August. Started in Munising and went all the way around. Hung mostly in campgrounds, but did public (maybe?) land one...
Ok...so Im not technically WI.
I live about a 1/4 mile from the border though...haha.
I have been very pleased with JRB.
I use a Greylock 3 (3/4 20*) for anything down to 25ish. Below that,...
Hey guys...really great responses and info. Thanks!
I must say, Im pleasantly surprised and also slightly disappointed. Surprised cuz I was thinking that I was "babying" my gear...and it turns...
Yeah...ive done pretty close to full time outdoors for the winter before....but that was in a tent. A cheap walmart tent....so I just left it out the whole winter.
Couple things I should mention....
Just curious how long (days, weeks, months) you would all be comfortable with leaving your setup out in the elements.
To clarify, if you were to setup in your yard, how long would it be before you...
Yeah...thats what my problem was...pitched it too wide.
I steepened it somewhat and the gap closed considerably.
Easy fix..
Thnx for all the replies though guys!
Hey dakota...thats what I was thinking...a small piece in the center should do it.
Ill try the 1 stake method as PS mentioned for tonite...
Thnx all!
I close my doors on my SLD Winter Haven by using a length of shock cord and a mitten hook to the opposite D ring.
I usually get a pretty generous gap in the middle though.
What do u guys do to...
Thats what I saw....just forgot where I saw it. Thnx man!
Hey all,
I use a Greylock 3 down to about 35ish....lower than that, I go with the MW4.
Anyways, Im sure this has been talked about with the JRB torso quilts, I just don't know what to search for....
I have had a GL3 down to 25. It was a lil cold. I wouldnt hesitate to use it down to 32 tho. I have since gotten a MW4 which I will use for anything under 32.
Thnx guys....just ordered a pair of sleeves, hood, and armadillo pillow. Everything was on sale and the collar modification for the hood was free. Sweet!
Lookin forward to recieving and doing...
Haha...thnx Shug. I just about fell outta my chair when u shoved em down your pants...
Ok...well im definitely sold on the sleeves....now to decide on the hood...
Or maybe 2 sets of sleeves? One...
Im curious how the hood attaches to a vest or jacket? I picked up a cheapy JC penney down jacket that I plan on using as an additional layer for winter camping. It doesnt have a hood but a big...

I just got my Envy S and have only hung outside one night so far. I can tell you that the venting seems to work very well. Of course, this was temps at about 45deg....but when I unzipped just the...
Makes sense....thnx for explanation.
This might be dumb question...but why use a footprint at all?
Im asking....not being a smart guy.
Im not sure anyone can tell YOU that you don't need a pad and UQ for 0. You might not....I don't...the UQ is enough with a proper tarp to knock down wind.
But, someone in your group might. ...
Lots of good stuff in this thread. One thing I never realized was less (or different) clothes. That's genius, but it never dawned on me!
Im not too cold of a sleeper. 0 UQ, 40 TQ with a 20 bag on...
Im like a half side sleeper....half the time on my back....half the time on the side. I worried about this too when I first started hanging. I found that you an sleep on your side in pretty much...
X2 on the testing before heading out. You and your group will be miserable if you get out there and are not prepared. I have noticed in the past that there is a difference being cold in a tent vs a...
Ok....that's what I was thinking.
Thnx
Ill take one of the pillows....preferably the better one....if there is a better one.
PM your PP.
Thnx
Bit the bullet on the 400 with extension along with an Envy S. Got the stand on Wednesday. Fairly easy setup. Took me a few to figure out how to attach my suspension to the hooks and around the...
Haha!! Awesome!!
OP here....Since I last posted, I slept with my standard poncho liner (aka woobie) draped over. Of course, its not mid winter, but it got down to 24F last night. My new MW4 worked wonderfully as I...
Hey guys,
Thnx for the suggestions. Very cool Clark5! That's amazing work right there.
I looked at the Envy, WBBB XLC, Dream Dangerbird, and more. I had a Clark NX-250 and didn't like it. ...
I have a Hammeck Netty argon 1.6 SL which is a fantastic hammock. Im sure I could use it for winter hanging with no problem. But im thinking of picking up something else specifically for winter...
Too late...haha.
Ordered a MW4 last nite. I already have a greylock 3 and stealth which I am very pleased with. Plus the ORM did work great as a TQ when I used it for that. I ended up selling it...
Hi,
I decided that I would like to give cold weather hanging another shot this upcoming winter. I went to the ground last year due to a couple reasons.
One...my dog didn't like laying under me...
Hmmm...I haven't really thought about it, but I just tried it out.
Apparently, I just swing my legs out and stand. I don't grab anything. I do put my arms in front of me for some balance tho.
...
OP here...
Well I used it on the bottom of my hammock only. Just where my UQ doesn't cover. It worked.
All this other stuff about disease and debating this and that....Im not going to get into....
If u don't need an UQ, then great for you....that's awesome.
What I find perplexing is not having a bugnet in the UP. Thats where I go on my shorter motorcycle weekend trips. The mosquitos in the...
Went for a bike ride and passed the local walmart...
Got Sawyers there for 10 bucks. If it keeps the skeeters off me, its money well spent.
As far as the debating....I dont get into that stuff too...
