Last year, I took my two boys (age 8 and 5 at the time) on a backpacking trip with my FIL and BIL (age 9). This year, I was a little more ambitious and decided to take my 4 oldest kids (age 6, 8, 9,...
We were worried, but decided to just go a see. We planned to just find an alternative route if the snow turned out to be too bad. But, as luck would have it, the snow had mostly melted, and we even...
I was at Christmas Meadows not too long ago with my family. I even took my boys backpacking from that trail head.
LOL, that was when we were at 13500 ft. He has never listened when I tell them to wear synthetic. He would say that he doesn't have any, then his parents would ask me if there is anything they need...
This is a little late, but it took a while to edit the video I made for the hike. I put the video together and it was over an hour in length. Then I shortened it to 20 minutes and made a part 1 and...
After watching Shug's video, I was interested in testing it out myself. I am sold after using it a bunch. For me it is faster and easier. I wouldn't be surprised if it was either the same weight...
The fabric find was pure luck. I bought the whole bolt. I should probably check to see if I have enough for an 8' X 10' tarp.
I also bought all those lines from an army surplus store. It seems...
I didn't use the foot attachment. My mom has shown me several times, but for the life of me I can't get it when she isn't watching. However, my wife did the machine work, and I would help feed it...
No, I used a machine. My singer sucks at even stitches. But, it is still faster than by hand.
I have 5 kids, so for me, the first priority is a lock on the door. :scared:
I finally finished the big tarp I was making. It's purpose if to cover my son's and my hammock at the same time. And, maybe even a second child. I bought the fabric at Walmart for $1.50 a yard. I had...
What are you, my twin
Yeah, I am 210 and 5'11". But, I use a double layer of 1.1, so I can't shed any insight on this.
What are your son's ages. I am still debating on taking my 3 1/2 year old this summer. I am already planning a trip with my 7 year old, but was thinking that 2 might be too much at such a young...
Yeah, I was in Poznan for New Years 1998/99. Crazy ! Just utterly Crazy!
Hej Czesc. I lived in Poland for 2 years. Learned a little of the language and culture. I lived in a Ludz, Zabrze, Opole, Zielona Gora and Warsaw. I also traveled around a bit to other cities. I...
That would be fun. I live in Tooele.
The two layers are the same size.
Oh, you are done for now. You will never go back to the dark side of the cold hard ground. :scared:
I finally finished my DIY hennessy and was able to take it for a test drive this last weekend on a scout overnight. But, I had one major problem, keeping the mat in the right place. The biggest...
Well, I finally did it. I sewed meself a DIY hennessy just like Headchange4u instructed. Well, almost. I used 1.1 oz and did a double layer. I also cut the fabric at 130". It ended up a little...
That is next on my list, after I make a Hennesy clone for myself. My son is soon to be 8 and a cub scout. So, how did you determine the correct length? Oh, and I also need to make a bigger tarp to...
That sounds like a great game to do. I will definitely try it on our next outing.
Looks like your troop has some decent backpacking tents. We don't and I am still working on that one.
Anyways, looks like you all had fun, even brought some cubs huh.
Crazy Kiwi...heheh.   Now you are doomed to repeat our mistakes. :scared:
Thanks. The stuff I got at Wm was definitely not coated with anything. Plain Jane. Water went right through. It soaked up the silicon like a sponge. My guess is that it was different than what...
Sorry. TH= Trail Head.
Some machines have bobbin winders on the side (mine does). Do you know what to look for? Can you take a picture of the side that the handcrank is on? If you have a bobbin spinner on the side, you...
It is about 9500 ft and close to Deseret Peak in Utah. It is a great place to go if you like high alpine and don't like people. Plus it is a 30 min drive to the TH. High alpine really brings out...
I think it is a light grey. But it is REALLY close to foliage green. I can mate it with my ACU pattern tarp. Next on the list is another hammock (either hennesy clone or bridge, or even both), and...
I sure hope so. That was the one thing that caused the most headache, trying to decide how much I needed. Eventually I just pulled the trigger and hope for the best. And, thanks for the foot box...
CLimashield XP I bought at Thruhiker.
I did this a while ago and just realized I forgot to post it here. That is kind of rude, since this site's ingenuity made it all possible. Basically, I found some fabric at Wallyworld for 1.50 a...
I finally finished my top quilt. Sorry, the pictures aren't all that descriptive, but at least you can't see the terrible sewing job on the seams. It works though, although I haven't tested it yet....
Jim, you sure like to stir the pot. :scared: ;) ;)
You are right about it being coated. One suggestion would be to make the tarp (the part that is seen the most) out of the coated camo, and the actual hammock out of solid foliage green colored...
I found a good source, since I was looking everywhere for it myself. Try DIY Tactical. They have 1.9 oz ripstop, and cordura in the ACU pattern. They also have a bunch of other stuff as well. ...
