Welcome. I am a native born stockton boy myself . soon you will be able to spot the proper distance between trees without even thinking about it.
welcome to arkansas. I recently moved to nw ar from ca myself and have been dying to find some good places to hang
how have you gotten past the buddy system for sleeping? My son just crossed over and his troop is pretty resistant to allowing the use of a hammock.
hey we're getting some good numbers out here finally. welcome to the forums
welcome to the forums
my synthetic yeti only has 3 oz of insulation, and I have used it down to 40 degrees with no problem. I think 5 oz of apex would get you easily down to 35. the people using it rate it down into the...
I believe warbonnet has made custom versions for a could of heavier guys around here.
on the purple quilt you made, did you also sew the long edges after putting the batting in?
hey this is the reason I got into hammocking. everything packs down small and I can follow the game. nice trout by the way
I am glad you like it so much. I really haven't seen a lot of reviews on the Chrysalis. From the pictures I have seen, I was just thinking you could use the same suspension system but with lighter...
+1 on the poncho liner. I have used mine down to about 40 degrees. I also put a drawstring in one end and glued it together to form a footbox.
are you still using the stock straps and buckles? If you changed those out you would probably lose 2 lbs if you wanted to get lighter.
from the sound of it if you get some warmer insulation and a tarp you would have a 4 season hammock. I like the fact that companies like eureka are getting into this area. not everyone is a...
hooch just had to say thanks for the new avatar
all depends where you do most of your hanging. out here 7 ft straps may be a little short
get some longer tree straps, the trees are a lot bigger out this way.
love the "ghetto hammock". how well did it work for him?
sorry Paul, health and money problems are going to keep me from going. just starting to get where I can walk around the grocery store. I am going to see how I do car camping this weekend up in the...
for those looking to avoid the notch for the rear view mirror that was mentioned, you can buy similar reflective insulation at lowes.
this will work for the first few times. the more you use it the more you will compress the insulation on the bottom of the bag. I started with a 20 degree bag, and after a handfull of hangs, I...
beautiful shot.
glad you had fun.
thanks for the pictures. hoping my health improves so I can get back up to the seirras soon.
+1 on paul at AHE. He always gets back to you very quickly. He also has every thing you will need except for a tarp, but he offered to make me one last year.
:pdutch your over thinking this:rolleyes:
depends on how cold a sleeper you are. I have used a GI poncho liner down to about 40 degrees without an UQ. I keep one of these around just for summer and early fall use.
don't even worry about the extra stitching. I think Grizz has a video on here somewhere to shouw how to whip the end like brandon from Warbonnet does. If you do that the end channel stitching is...
these type of hammocks are great for people just starting out. I have 2 kalisto hammocks that I bought last year. if you change out the suspension, they will work great for most people. one of mine...
i have found that the large ( cheap ) hammocks that you see seem to be rating the suspension that they are using. I am almost 400 lbs, and have slept very comfortably in a Kalisto hammock that is...
if you are confident that you like hammocks for camping, buy the bb, unless you know for a fact that bugs aren't an issue. otherwise, get the traveler. if you find that you like hammocking, which you...
perfect example of a mean wife, one that steals your hammock and won't give it back:lol:
dave I would love to see how you are using the straps. as for the beverage, there is always a bevmo close by here in CA. their selection ranges from gutter swill to more than I would pay for a bottle...
welcome dave. I prefer my whiskey with an "E". hope you like it here in CA, lots of places to hang.
welcome bearbait. glad to have another california hanger
I can not belive I missed that video:lol::lol: I laughed through the whole thing.
Grizz love the mel brooks hommage.
hey jim look at the eureka chrissylis hammock. It sounds very similar to what you are thinking. good luck, and take plenty of pictures.
i think the polemod might be the solution to those hard to sew pullouts
rotflmao:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
nice report eay. where can I find info on the meetup group fom sac?
If any of yu do order from seth at trek light, you won't be disappointed. His customer service is top notch.
i have hunted and fished poth sides of the pct when you get north of hwy 4. there are trees to be found, but depending on the elevation of the trail it could take some looking.
warmsoda, what does it take to become an accredited instructor for wfa? One of my friends is a certified paramedic, and teaches the cpr cert. Is there any other training that is needed for WFA?

The ability to roll over is pretty important. QUOTE]

hang around here for to long and you won't be saying that anymore:D:D:lol:
man we got another ca hanger, just when I am moving out of state.
yeah I found ones like that made by coleman the other day at kmart. the price difference between them and the msr is pretty good.
don't think I can get much closeer without being one.
great pictures. I love how different the country is is texas.
lori told me she was planning on 5-7 miles a day. I still might make it also, I am holding out hope for permission from the wife.
