Nice trip...! That is one trip that I really wish I could do. Came close back in 2003...

No way could I hike that trail... My butt puckered just watching the vid.

Down packs small and light, great warmth to weight ratio.
Synthetic if wet/moist will still keep you warm.
If you get wet every time you go out might want to lean toward synthetic.
Ski
Better have a good ground cloth...
Ski
I've been using 1.75mm Zing It for my tarp lines and I love it... I too was a 550 guy before using this stuff. Still keep some with me for other things.
Ski
I too was looking for something like you... I ended up with a quilt set from Arrowhead Equip. Kick *** Quilts New River and Owyhee to be exact. Since I wanted synthetic mine doesn't pack as small as...
Good to know I'm not the only one that does this...
Ski
I hang mine with a tad more sag and my foot end about 8" higher than my head end... I was able to figure this out hanging in the basement prior to my first trip. I'm just a hair shy of 5'8".
Good...
I'm listening... as long as we are talking about setup and not what food I should be eating before bed. I mean I would love to be able to use the product that I bought and have it perform like it was...
There is no differential cut... not that I can tell. I did post a picture...

Outside to outside of the cinch buckles is 105" (just measured for you). That gives you 7.5" each side on a 10x10 tarp. This is just with the weight of the hammock... I bet the coverage is a tad...
The WBBB has a fixed ridge line at 100" or 101" so a 10x10 is plenty big pitched square.

From my experience if you are wanting a true 3 season set I would stay away from the DP quilts. I own them and have froze in them. In my opinion I would call them a 1 season quilt. Then again with a...
I would take it... you can always vent it if needed. Heck, I was cool (almost cold) last weekend at 58 deg F... and that was with an UQ (poorly rated).
Ski
Me either... since I got mine for $259 shipped last fall from REI... :scared:

Dec 2006 I fell at work and blew out a disk, L5-S1 . Surgery in Mar 2007 and diagnosed with "chronic inflammation of the nerve root" in Oct 2007. Been on and off Percocet since then and can kill a...
I have 2 of the BCUSA tarps... they are 10' x 10'... and yes it does get heavier when wet. I love mine... then again I'm not an U/L guy.
Good luck in your search.

Not true Multicam... Ski
So I need to eat more and then wear more clothes... That's my problem..? It's interesting that you have "improved" your UQ not once but twice since I bought it less than 3 months ago.
I've given a...
They pack down great... then again I'm not a U/L guy so my opinion might not count. I have not seen 4" of loft out of these, LOL, not even close. Lets be real here... it's two pieces of nylon with...
Thank you all for your answers and feedback... Ski
I've been looking at the page, have it up now actually. I just want to make sure this is the one before I buy it. I already purchased a quilt set that will not do what I ask of it.
Will this take...
I would really like to know more about this UQ... I also have a WBBB and I'm looking for a good full length synthetic.
Thanks, Ski
What is it that you would like to know...? I guess I could ramble on a bit...
They have a nice thin/soft nylon on the inside and a thicker/slick outer nylon, both in ripstock.
The foot box in...
Let me add that I would buy this quilt combo again... I just wish I knew what temps it would keep me warm at prior to buying.
Ski
I went out again this weekend, second time using this quilt combo... Thursday 5-12 until today, Sunday 5-15. I was in a place called Pine Ridge Campground in New Bloomfield, MO. Thur night - 58 deg...
Dave, I have to admit that I wasn't too keen on the head hole when I first layed the TQ out... after using it though I am a firm believer. It just rocks..!
Once again I am a cold sleeper (the...
I'm not a UL guy at all... actually that ridge line is much lighter than the 550 cord I was using... The carabines are the Camp Nano's and weigh in at 22 grams each so I really don't see replacing...
I have an UQ but the pad will help me stay warm when the weather dips lower than expected. If I had the cash I would just buy a warmer UQ but sadly that isn't an option right now. Maybe if I end up...
I have one that I use when I tent camp... I use it inside my bag to keep it clean. With that being said I would guess it adds a few deg worth of warmth to the bag. I've never tried it as a stand a...
The test location was at a friends farm... he cut, split, and stacked a bunch of wood at this location ahead of time. It was nice having a safe place for my first hang.

Top - REI polartec long underwear, 100 weight fleece, wool shirt (looks like flannel). I was good with this... back, arms, sholders were all fine.
Bottom - boxers, and REI polartec long underwear....
Ok, last weekend I went out for my first outdoor test hang and it went ok but I want to know if there is anything I can do better. It was really windy when I set up but as the day wore on the winds...
I purchased both the TQ and UQ... finally got to test them out last weekend. I will say that I'm a cold sleeper and when the temps dipped to a low of 40deg F I was cold. For me I think 50deg F and up...
I have both the TQ and their UQ... tested them last weekend down to 40.5 deg F and was cold. I would say I'm a cold sleeper though but I would rate these to right at 50 deg F for me. Very good...
I agree as I'm using Sawyer this year...

Good to know... Thanks..!
Ski
Good deal brother, I'm heading out this weekend to do my first outdoors hang in mine... Look for my report over on BCUSA late Sunday.
Ski
I was looking at it and thinking the same thing... Very long..!
Thanks guys, Wade
Yep, I was going to set it up and leave it that way... Plan is to stow it just like my hammock. More or less a double ended stuff sack... I know these have a name. I figure this way should be good...
First real hang is coming up on Saturday... I'll be in my WBBB and will be using my 10X10 BCUSA tarp. Which way should I hang it..? Do I go for a diamond setup or a regular square a-frame..?
Stu...
Thanks for the great vid... I'm new to hammocks and your vid showed me a few things that I hadn't yet thought of. I have my first real test hang next weekens and it looks like I have some homework.

Me too...!

That vid is by Terry Barney... Or IA Woodsman... He has a ton of great stuff posted on BCUSA and youtube.

I hung my new (also my first) hammock in the basement tonight when I got home. It's a Warbonnet Black Bird if that matters. I thought I would pass on what I have learned so far.... I was told 13' to...
I got mine in the mail today too... 2/23 order date.

Hey, I work over in Granite City... Across the street from the USS blast furnaces... Anyway, I have noticed that quite a bit of GC is pretty close to the water table. Seem to see sitting water for...
I had the opposite experiance... ordered my WBBB on 2/23 and just got the shipping notice yesterday 3/30.
