Seems like a length of pool noodle cut longitudinally would be a quick dirty for padding.

David,
Here is my spread sheet I referenced from way back when.

I found my optimum for minimal shoulder squeeze with a head end fabric width to spreader bar ratio of 1.15. The PBH you...
David,
Looking forward to seeing the results of your experiment! I was thinking back to my old experiments with DIY bridges and the thing that helped most was making the head speaker bar longer...
Fair enough Bill. I thought I remembered something of that... It's been a long time
The Heldon looks like a remake of the Eureka Chrysalis. If you do a search on "Chrysalis" you will see quite a few threads of discussion. I, in fact, started one in 2010 discussing my attempts at...
Love it WV
Excellent.
Just saw this today on their Kickstarter page. Interesting. I agree with WV. Has an interesting potential for two sleepers (shown a couple times between 3:00 and 3:16 in their Kickstarter video. ...
A while back, I made my own CF spreaders from tubes I bought from Rockwest Composite. (links in this thread) For the size I used, tips from Quest outfitter worked well and I ultimately epoxied them...
Greetings and salutations.
Egrant is the kind of guy that pokes a bee hive with sticks...just cuz he can.
Pete,
There is a fine line between between "does this happen to you and what do you do for it?" and "why does this happen to me and what should I do for it?"
In the first, you are asking what...
No offense taken RatDog, and certainly none intended, but your post highlights the issue. Lack of information in the original post, and the poor ability of in Internet forum to adequately assess (by...
As another doctor on the forum, I find this to be sound advice. Unless you have documented snoring and sleep apnea, a CPAP is not going to be a benefit to you. If you think it is from cold or dry...
Read my mind Cannibal. Somebody kickstart Dutch!
Good luck guys on your current endeavor. Always good to see more hammocks!
The benefit of DIY cannot be understated for out larger brethren. Like GE hammocks, a bridge can be made of whatever material you prefer, and the dimensions can be tweeked to allow for wider...
Pretty cool Derek! Would love to see a picture here or on your website with your finished hammock! Looks like a fun project.
I think the whole discussion is moot. One must define the scope of the question to make an accurate comparison. There will be a "lightest" for any given set of parameters (though subject to change...
Pretty sure you can hang at High Cliffs State Park on the North end of Lake Winnebago. From there it is a straight shot up to GB ~45 minutes. Its about 10 miles East of Appleton. In Door County,...
Welcome. Headed up to the BWCA the week before you. It's a good place for hammocks, though with my family, we're still on the ground.
You might call Rockywood for a true weight per square yard. Sometimes they just list a ballpark nominal weight, sometimes a weight per linear yard (easy enough to conver once you know the width of...
Just my take, but the word "innovative" gets bandied about far too much in their videos. Kammock is certainly not the only company that gets overhyped by the spin doctors in the marketing...
Is it just me or does the tarp look a bit short and the cat cuts a bit extreme to provide adequate coverage for anything except vertical rain?
Water funnels at tarp corners. Been done before. ...
This doesn't exactly fit your specs in that it is not catenary cut, but you might email the owner Dave Oware and ask. I have the stock 10x10 FlatTarp3.5 and like it very much. Good quality.
Awesome. Each time I see one of your vids, I miss it there.
It's been done before. Not my photo so I don't want to post it publicly.
I did not like pads when I was using gathered end hammocks, but like them fine in bridge hammocks. Even better when the bridge has a pad pocket or double layer to hold it in place. I sleep on the...
Is it as strong as sil or cuben? No. But would it make for a nice tarp when you are expecting mild weather. Probably be fine. Here are a couple treads, some from another forum.
...
For those that have followed the clear tarp threads, two of these together could make a 12'x8' tarp for $18 and a little over 7oz. Just add tape and tie outs. Perhaps not as strong as cuben or sil,...
People frantic. Run!
Alien, volcano, tsunami!
Pass the popcorn, please.
I like to lay on my stomach in the RR. Even better with a pad. Usually one arm up, one down, but can do both up with the wider head end of the RR. Enjoy. You chose well.
Working this week, but have much of next week off. I'll see if I can get motivated, do one with darts and write it up. Can't promise as I have a bunch of stuff to get done before year's end. I'll...
Nah. Have been busy with work.
The design is essentially complete as above. I have fabric to make a couple more and will probably use darts instead of the U shaped seat, but that is a minor...
Lookin' good. I will likely order one (without doors) for my RR once Adam get his camo cuben in.
Greetings from your Fox Valley neighbor!
I suspect I'd be interested in a 12' RL no doors tarp for my WBRR
The Mylar plastic film of Cuben will me unlikely to take dyes or stains. You can write on it with markers. I always thought it would be cool to take markers to an olive green Cuben tarp and make a...
Another 200 pounder that uses dynaglide without problems so far.
Perhaps consider the Benchmade Barrage. I had the mini barrage for a time. Nice knife with great assisted opening. The barrage sounds to meet your criteria better. I carry a Benchmade Sequel and...
I'd be way too embarrassed to send proto1. Trust me when I say the stitching "left some to be desired", particularly in the semicircle of the seat. Perhaps a later proto, or a final production once...
The 2mm whoopies and dogbone (just a fixed length of cord with a locked brummel on each end) were made with STS-12-75 (similar to dynaglide without the waxy coating). These all attach to the biners...
The chair is hanging from 2mm whoopies at the four corners. There is a 2mm fixed length dogbone for the "ridgeline", two Dutch Biners and two dynaglide whoopies going from the Dutch clips to the...
Glad you like it Gargoyle. No spreader bars required. I opted not to go with the footrest. The original was comfortable for about 5 minutes and then I felt like my knees were getting hyperextended.
A brief update:
Completed prototype clone #1 out of a double layer of 1.9oz/yd2 ripstop with 1" polyester strap around edges. Weight with suspension is down to 10oz. Pizzpoor sewing on this one,...
FWIW I use 3/8" polyester webbing from strapworks. If I remember correctly, it has a rated strength at 1500#, greater than the dynaglide or STS-12-75 line I used for the remainder of the suspension....
A few updates this morning. Made longer whoopies for all four corners to allow better adjustment.
Sitting mode (Seat whoopies at 44", Back whoopies at 35"):...
Yes, had Karl in mind when I typed that--Ummmhmm!
Yes, my thought too. I made whoopies for the four corners last night adjustable out to 33" and the chair was quite a bit more comfortable with the longer suspension. I should have made them longer...
[o]TTeR's magnificent work on his winter recliner renewed an interest I have had for a while: a low weight hammock chair to sling between two trees facing perpendicular to the plane of the trees. ...
Looking at this again today. Looks like the recliner you first posted had a spreader bar behind the knees ans the suspension came off the corners. Version two looks like a gathered end at the seat...
