I would look for instructions on baffle construction and any of the many techniques you can use for both your quilts and under.quilts... the only real difference is in length and whether you'll add a...
haha, thats great! reminds me of something from a tolkien book, or a drunken pirate party whichever you prefer, it full of nice rhymes and diy wonder.
Looks like a fun trip! I used to hang from the rack on my Jeep Cherokee all the time and I never had an issue, but I can see how it isn't designed for those forces although it should be able to take...
When I first did this I sewed seams parallel to the zipper and cut the zipper off. My bag was rectangular but I imagine if you were to sew two parallel lines down the foot box you could then cut...
Welcome! The DIY section was what brought me to this forum, there is so much information its just incredible. Have fun and try not to get overwhelmed, I had so many project ideas in the...
From another broad outdoorsman...Welcome to the hammock zone!
Thats great you have a Mom who is into helping with the DIY side! Best of luck and remember to hang fun! ;)
Thats very impressive. I usually just measure and tape it/ fold it over, but you've created a convert... now to order another roll of silnylon ;)
Whoa, thats nuts! I have definitely hit the ground a few times. Its no surprise considering my weight, luckily I am flexible and very active so I've never gotten hurt.
I will say however that I...
Very nice! I really want to buy a few tablecloths, need to kill my roll of nylon first though :$
Thats a nice bag! I picked up a Sierra Designs Ridge Runner 15 degree down bag, in long its just under 3 pounds, way lighter than my old winter bag haha. I paid $110 from backcountry.com with...
Wow, that looks a lot like a DIY project i've been designing. I like the idea of a double layer hammock with a dual purpose tarp and bug net setup. I need the versatility of hanging or pitching a...
Really sweet photo! Must have been a blast of a trip!
Wow, looks like a blast! I was supposed to be out tonight, but suffering from laziness due to weather, you've got the right idea!
Good ideas, I am going to cut some holes in my old, soon to be replaced, walmart ccf pad. I like the idea of it maybe softening slightly and maybe it will allow the ground to cool my body during the...
I've always had acrylic gloves and hats with tiny ribbons of mylar for added reflection and warmth, I wonder if you can buy that fabric?
Hahaha, don't feel bad, I fell twice before finding thick enough twigs when I forgot the dowels a few years ago. No snow that time, at least the landing was soft...er
I tried putting open vents under the beaks on my last tarp. I was hoping to get more flow with less condensation, but I found it wasn't much different. I will try to dig up some pictures, but I do...
Whatever you choose, enjoy the hang! Welcome to the forum, I have been lurking for years and am still surprised by the amount of information found here.
All the best!
I've never had a problem using my bags as quilts. The hood either ends up under my head as a kind of pillow, or put over my head if the temperature dives.
Anything feels good after a long day of work/ hiking. Has anyone other than me ever been to tired to hang the darn thing? That being said I like my lil' homemade gather end hammocks their awfully...
Nothing wrong with that ;) haha the all too familiar stttrrrreeeettttttccchhhhhh.. SNAP, usually the suspension though not the hammock body. Either way best of luck and have fun!
Yeah those things are mostly Mylar I believe, they may have an insulating layer too, but I don't think it would hold this big guy.
70d is 1.9oz per sq yard uncoated which works but will be significantly heavier than the same tarp in 30d or 1.1oz per square yd.
Make a compressible pillow, it always worth having a few spares around!
A polyester sheet maybe, or if you're very light. I know a cotton sheet wouldn't hold my big behind :)
Wow thats a great idea, I have been estimating for too long now since I am too lazy to use the equation. I am usually okay at it, but there were definitely a few frustrating moments
I forget what it actually weighs, I am sure its written in the tablecloth thread, but I do remember that they are significantly heavier than single layer 1.9 ripstop. Obviously the weight difference...
I am 5'10" and 300lbs as well. I make my own hammocks using a single layer of 1.9 ripstop and I have never had issues. For long term use I would make a double layer, but I've never broken a single...
+1 I use 2.2 for my ridgeline, when my buddy used some with the flyz he said it worked he just had to work it in and out a bit more.
I simply rolled both edges into a rolled hem and haven't had any problems. I ran two seams so their is about a 1/2" flat edge.
Awesome... just awesome...I may have to try this sometime, looks like too much fun!
Haha, I thought those buries were impossible until my third try, once I found my yarn needle the whoopies make themselves!
The collection seems to be growing every day haha. After my Eno frayed and was returned I ordered a 30yd roll of 1.9 ripstop. I still have 3 out of the 6 hammocks I have made so far!
Awesome hammock! I am getting ready for the same project, did you use Grizz's (way too) :) mathematical equation?
Nice hang but you aren't the first, posted this at 11:30, was taken before the lower level flooded haha!41502
Have fun riding out the storm! I wish my hammock could set up inside too!
We had a our second of four storm surges this morning, I had to get the hammock out before the storm really sets in! Anyone else making the best of this monumental storm? And all the best to those...
I am new to making my own gear and am just finishing my first quilt as well (using the same olive seconds ). I used masking tape to mark all of my lines, but I will probably grab a silver...
Hi, I've been into this injection game for a few weeks now, even made myself two real nice hammocks. Since I can sew a sew a straight stitch I purchased materials to make 2 down quilts with matching...
