Thanks again guys for teaching me how to make these!! I put this same thread on several hunting forums I am on, so I just copied and pasted it here, that is why it sounds so generic to you guys that...
I have several SilNylon UL shelters, one of which is a 5 man 2.5 lb tipi with a 2.5 lb wood burner, which is especially great for cold weather setups, BUT, the more I use my DIY UL hammock/tarp...
Nice work!

Nice craftsmanship, very good!
That's very cool.
Looks great!
LR, the whoopies are very easy to make, once I made up my mind to quit fighting the rope, and learn to make a taper correctly. A small pair of vice grips for the darning needle makes it super easy...

I hear ya, I added pockets to mine too. I love them and they are a must imo. I put my shoes or boots on one side, and my handgun, wallet, cell phone, and pocket knife in the other.
Very Nice!

I am 210#'s and I use a double layer of 1.1 for my setup. It is so light, I just couldn't see not using it for the extra strength and durability.
Nice work man! I like it.
Congrats:D
She likes it! Been too hot and been too busy to get out, so I rigged it up in the house tonight so she could play with it. Infactuated with it, is the best way to describe her behavior with it. In...
I'm going out again this weekend with it, but can't see how the pockets will have any effect on how the hammock will lay when loaded. I have to have a place to store gear, and a stuff sack hooked to...
I could even store some clothes or an extra blanket in one I guess too. Thanks.
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!!
I went out to a buddys timber, drank a few beers with the guys, bon fired it, and slept in my new setup Saturday night. VERY comfortable and very satisfying to sleep in my own DIY hammock/tarp setup;...
Thanks again everyone:D
I have had people want me to make them hammock/tarp setups after seeing mine. There is NO WAY I would sell a setup for under $300. Labor intensive and material costs are high. The whoopies REALLY...
Yes, I found out that not all fabric is 60". The stores told me that nominal average width is 44-45" and to not rely on it being always 60".
Thanks Knotty.
Thanks again. We are planning on camping this weekend and I can't wait to see all of them together and get some usage out of them. I worked too hard on these to just leave them in their stuff sacks...
Very cool. I have yet to find any camo ripstop in my walmarts
