200 bucks for shipping?!? There is no way that is right! That's a two-thirds of the cost of the bag.
Was impressed before and am looking for a winter bag, but that's a deal breaker right there. I...

What about a full dyneema rope style bridge hammock? It'd be super light, strong.
Wouldn't be incredibly comfy (about as much as any other rope hammock) but just an idea I've been throwing around....
There is a thread about easy cut baffles and I think it can easily be applied to your problem.

Roll your netting long ways and then cut...
Whoo!!! Just placed my order for a 22 yard roll. I'm thinking...
-3yards SL Hammock
-6yards DL Hammock
-7yards Winter Tarp (10.5' ridgeline, with my hang at 84" in a 9' hammock, this will be...
Well I guess that'd be good for hike naked day lol.
Also right after posting i found the other three threads about this exact fabric. Need to utlize our famcy search engine sometime. :-P
Awesome thanks for the info!
There was a recent group buy of some ACU ripstop from magnafabrics. I had recently come across this website as well and was about to buy 22 yards of it for like 30 bucks but before I do I had some...
I was just curious if any backpackers here ever choose not to go with a hammock and go to ground for certain trips (ie. weight savings, above timberline)
If so what equipment do you use instead?
Ah! I see now. Do you think I'd be able to accomplish this by putting a thin bit of pad in the hammock with it between the reflector and myself? I don't have any quick and easy was to attach it to...
Used one under my feet in 20 degree weather last night. Found it at the goodwill for 2 bucks. Didn't do a darn thing. If anything the reflector got cold and only aided in the chilling of my feet. But...
Haha ya'll are over engineering that. It's a little toy piece from a Knex/ Lego type playset. Cant remember exactly what the toy brand is but a kid probably left it on the beach lol.
I know right I just bought the same darn thing two weeks ago. I'd be all over this cause it's a great deal.
Oh crap, I was gonna buy this next friday when I got paid, but for the price... gah!!!
...I shouldn't be buying anything till then, but if you still have it, PM me we'll talk
....you...
Anyone got some measurement of it loosely packed in a stuff sack? Still waiting on mine but I need the measurements for a surprise I'm working on.
I think you guys will like it but I don't want...
My hammock is 1.1 and I'm almost 180. I was apprehensive at first, I didn't think there was any way it'd hold me up, but it preforms like no one's business!
I'd have to agree with you there man and that's a fine bit of handywork you've got. I've got some wool ones that weigh more than twice that and add negligible warmth, I'm definitely giving these a...
Very very cool I might just have to steal this idea. What was the final weight of the pair?
It's supposed to have a bit of distance between itself and yourself. For optimum performance I would put the climasheild closest to you with insultex on the outside.
(however I am not an expert,...
Sleep in the buff man. With warm enough hammock insulation you can go to sleep neked till like freezing. Scrub yourself down, change you sock, set your stanky clothes out to dry and snuggle in to...
The only thing is I'd really like not to have to buy another UQ this winter. If I'm fully clothed I can sleep without an UQ to ~50 degrees. With a TQ and clothes to about 40.
Will I really be that...
I figured this combo would get me through whatever range of temperatures I experienced on the trail.
I'd sleep in skivvies...
If I got to warm I'd take of the top quilt
If I was still too warm...
So next week I'm buying a Winter Yeti UQ and I have a couple questions.
First, I'm probably gonna get a couple ounces of overfill, how much until it starts affecting the temperature rating...
Bought some 1.1 silnylon the other day to attempt a tarp (should have prototyped with less expensive materials, i know).
Suffice it to say, the success that has met me with both my hammock designs...
I just got my stuff from Quest in and before I start doing any real work I have a quick question (you always start second guessing the moment before you start working)
Does the ripstop pattern go...
I would look at the tag, and just call the company or do an internet search. The company should have that kind of info.
Lol if not, grab an ounce of it, however many cubic inches it takes up is...
Oh god, that is so cool I can hardly stand myself.
Edit: This was meant towards Mad777's post. Happy Hiker is a faster typer than me....
Ahhh.. of course! That is very similar to what I was planning on doing. I'll probably try it my way first,...
Can someone link me to a walkthrough of the non-sewn through baffles? I have an idea of how I was planning to fix the cold spots problem, but I'm having a hard time visualizing what you guys are...
For a winter uq, what direction should your baffles go? Lengthwise (parallel to your hammock) or widthwise (perpendicular to you hammock)
Yeah I think I've bee effectively shooed away from the idea. Oh well, at least this happened before needle hit fabric.
Ok cool, that's pretty much what I wanted to know. I think I mainly just didn't want to believe him haha!
That's a shame, but I appreciate the help.
Pics when I get home. Sorry for the suspense. They are wool (or cotton, got em at the thrift store) crocheted socks with a hardish (think nubuck leather) sole. I wear them over wool socks. They have...
At BPL I asked a question if there was any way of improving the quality (fp) of your down, even if you lose some quantity in the process. (I bought a 550fp down comforter on ebay that has 95% down/5%...
sclittlefield (who sells it) says here that it is not very packable and should be rolled versus stuffed into a bag. Do you think this will cause problems?
The more I look into and the more...
No, Sorry How about this:
:) <-- Me, hanging in my hammock
______________ The UQ starts here___________
-----1.1 Ripstop on the outside of the UQ, but against my body---------...
Someone from BPL asserted that it might be a bad idea to use the outside layer of IX because of breathability and moisture issues for the down.
So it may look more like this now:
1.1 Ripstop...
My plan in to make an underquilt for my hammock with several (light) layers that goes like this:
-1.1oz Downproof Ripstop (or Momentum 50)
-Insultex
-Down
-Insultex
-1.1oz Downproof Ripstop...
Thanks for the praise everyone lol. It weighs exactly 16oz with the suspension I'm currently using.
@Gra_factor: The seams are straight and I've noticed a bit of floppiness, but I think I might...
Hey everyone, yesterday I finished my first hammock, and I thought I'd share some pictures! I was gonna go through but construction process, but it's basically (no, exactly) a rectangle with seamed...
I finally got in my materials from DIYGS and will shortly start making my own hammock (pretty stoked!).
Quick, last minute question, before I start sewing sometime this week. I'm 6' tall, so...
