Very nice. Just ordered one almost exactly like that.
It is tedious, and not worth it. I've backspliced 5/8" Vectran......once. I decided I didn't even want to bother splicing it with an eye.
Gotta be this.....

I wish they offered the camo cuben in Multicam :D
Was about to say something similar to blanedmiles. You need something that is self-equalizing otherwise there's the potential for uneven loading of the system. If you really want to get fancy, buy a...
Congratulations!!!!
Is it safe to assume that the "bury, taper, total" fields are in inches? The chart starts in metric, but I would have to think the rest is in imperial, although there is no indication of units of...
Glad I got mine before you decided to button up shop for a bit! Great stuff, and I can't wait to see what else you come up with, and if you need a beta tester I'll be hammocking my way through...
Got mine hammock and tarp anchors yesterday. Spent a few minutes splicing everything together. Haven't hung on it yet, but I'm excited to give them a shot. Fit and finish was great!
UGQ now has a MultiCam upgrade option on their website for Hanger series tarps.
What I'd really like is someone to do MultiCam cuben!!!!
I'm fortunate enough to work at a job where there is much splicing all around. My non-coworkers think I'm nuts.
Very cool! Moms are the best.
Gotta be my Hammock Gear 3/4 underquilt.
My next is probably going to be an HG cuben with doors. It's just versatile, despite being $$$$.
I agree with cleat. It works on the same principle as a rope cleat, might as well call it a "cleat-type suspension."
I'm fact, I'm gonna start calling it that. BAM!
Dammit Dutch! It's Christmas!!!! Quit helping people and be a little selfish today!
They're just so darn comfy.
Give it a shot. As long as you're not a jerk about it, the worst someone is going to do is ask you to take it down.
They're great. I don't always use them, but when I need the extra room I'm very appreciative then I have them.
If it gets more people hanging, it's a bonus.
I'm amazed, I just put in an order, ON CHRISTMAS EVE no less, and already have shipping info. Stunned that a Christmas Eve order is shipping same day. Incredible service, absolutely incredible.
Put my order in at 12:34 on the 21st. Can't wait to see what the new year brings!
That's it. I need one.
Way to go! Screw the man!!!!
Doesn't matter who owns what patent, if they are not willing to defend it, then it's essentially void.
I've always just thrown some clothes in a stuff sack.
I've also got a Burton Sleeper Hoodie that has a little inflatable pillow in the neck area of the hood. It's not the most comfortable but it's...
Just ordered a pair of hammock anchors and a pair of tarp anchors. We'll see how they go!
You missed my point, but I wasn't super clear. Simply throwing out names of chemically identical UHMWPE tell us nothing. And now that we've got an engineer in the house it would benefit everyone if...
Amsteel is Samson-branded Dyneema (manufactured by DSM) coated with their proprietary Samthane coating.
Spectra is Honeywell's product that is chemically identical to DSM's Dyneema. They are both...
If you're sneaky with the hotel carpet, travel with a masonry bit and drill, and have some anchors handy, you could probably make a Handy Hammock work. :)
A fid is a splicing tool. There are several variations, used for different types of rope or different splicing techniques. Most common are tubular fids, however the Selma fids and Brian Toss wands...
2 fids on the brummel bury and 3 1/2 fids on the adjustable end are all you need. Anything more is just wasted excess. Sure it's cheap, but it doesn't get you anything. Ratings don't go up just...
I've used some pretty ridiculous justifications for purchases but this takes the cake!!!! Hahaha! I'll have to come up with something equally crazy for my next unneeded purchase.
I'm looking...
I have a bunch of professional splicing tools for work, but if I didn't have a need, I'd definitely be scrounging around the house. For the types of splices required for hammock camping, and really...
Typically bury lengths are given in fid lengths so the length is dependent on the diameter of the rope you're splicing. A fid being 21 times the diameter of the rope. Which Samson ropes have had...
Hah, yes, 7/16 will be fine. It's rated for 18,000 pounds. :)
Company owns the actual test data so I can't divulge specific results, however they were all in line with everyone's expectations. They break as expected, where expected, as rated. gmcttr has it...
Why not just use the stuff that's already on the market like the stuff that Sgt. Knots has that has jute for firestarting, plus 2 strands of spiderwire as well as the inner strands. The stuff in the...
I've snapped 4 whoopies in a test fixture. They're very strong. Interestingly enough there was no real difference in breaking strength between a locked brummel and a 1 fid length bury, both with and...
Just gotta say thanks for all the videos you've done over the past couple years, they've been super helpful and I've learned a tremendous amount just by emulation!
Off topic, were you on the red...
Congrats! Welcome to the addiction. It's just a different kind of H-train....
Small sheet of Tyvek just so I have something to put backpack, etc. on in case I need to. It's small, about 2'x2', and just kind of provides a porch to set stuff on.
I don't have one yet, it's my next purchase, but I'm anticipating that something like the HG 3/4 length 40 degree uq w/out any overfill will pack pretty small.
Shug's for sure!!!! I also worked for Kenneth Feld and currently work for another circus, so I enjoy all of his other videos too.
DON'T use a soldering iron/hot knife for any of the "space age" fibers like dyneema, vectran, etc. It's not designed to be melted/cut like that and the melted ends can sever other fibers in the...
It made my day!!!! Tell her thank you very much!
Ordered a hammock, buginator, and suspension. Whenever there's a comment box I ask for some artwork just to see if they actually read them. Well, this one was awesome!
With a little help from...
I've got one from the Kickstarter campaign also. I swapped the suspension system for some whoopies, and replaced the ventilation bungees with a continuous amsteel loop. With a prussik around the...
Protip, use gardening wire or a sail makers needle as a wire fid.
I've got Selma fids (the BEST overall fids, I use for double braid), Brion Toss wands (the best for pre-measured pull through...
