I tried that. She'll only go to Camp Marriott. Her idea of roughing it is having to bring her own blow dryer because the hotel doesn't have one mounted on the bathroom wall.

I would be joining you, but have to go out this weekend for scouts. The Mrs. would not be very happy with 2 weekends in a row. And we all know, that when momma aint happy, ................
I...
If it's that cold that that little hole is much of an issue, I'm usually below the comfort range of the quilt. If it bothers you, stick a sock in it!!
I know right where we can hang too!!!
I have a 3" overstuff that I use on the bottom. Definitely, thicker is better.
Pan,
Good to hear from you from time to time! Knot tying is knot in short supply!! I just like the idea of the 9s. They make setup and tear down a breeze and in cooler temps, I don't have to...
I use Kelty Trip-ease. Roughly the same size. I think that they work great as long as you keep constant tension on them. With the gusting/swirling conditions Friday evening, they would lose...
We (Scout Troop) went camp this past weekend near Lewisville, TX. The weather was clear, but the winds were 40-50 mph. Our campsite was an open field on the leeward side of an earthen dam. We...
I've used a 9 deluxe in my ENO. I don't inflate it quite all the way. It seems to conform to the hammock a little better. I've used it here in TX down into the mid 20s. Like Griz says, the...
There are manuscripts from Lord Baden Powell (Scouting Founder) that describe hammocks in some detail. Late 1800's I believe.
I was involved with my boys from Tigers through Scouts. Served in about every position except SM. I'm currently involved with my nephew's troop as an ASM.
I go 3 seasons, winter, spring and fall. It's just too hot here in the summer and the troop takes more day trips and lock ins this time of year. In the winter, I've been down in the low 20's.
I could be persuaded to come out. There are plenty of places to go. I'm also in the Dallas area. We could certainly carpool to save gas.
Peace,
Joe
My suggestion is to just jump in with both feet. When I started this time (my second venture in to Scouting) around with a HH, I was greeted with some sceptical looks and jeers. Now, it's toatal...
Thanks. It's all good now.
Yes, Yes! And the one below it gives me the same message.
I still can't get to the news items on the front page. I click on the "Read More" link and it says that I don't have permission.
I tried to open the item about the hammock forums gift shop on the front page and the one displayed right below it. They both gave the same response.
I tried to read the storys on the front page, but was denied access. What's up?
Hey BIG-E,
I used to be with T-195 in Greece. Nice to see someone from up North gettin it right.
I get a good laugh every time I read that list. You just have to sit back and wonder.
First, let me say welcome to the site. I was wondering if you're related to this skippy??? http://skippyslist.com/list/
I would also vote nay. You can get a JRB Nest for $250 or a Hudson River on sale now for only $200. Usable right out of the box and high quality too boot.
I just recieved a new scout catalog last night. BSA is now offering ENO Single Nest hammocks and another brand (can't remember off the top of my head). The ENO is priced at $47.99. Maybe, just...
No reason you couldn't do it.
I also have the ENO Double.
I have removed the supplied biners (they're very heavy) and replaced them with a pair of descending rings on each end. Do a search of the site for rings. There is a...
I used the ENO bug net. Yeah, it's on the heavy side, but until I sew on some hook and loop, it's what I got. There wasn't many skeeters, but it's warm enuf now, I didn't want to take a chance.
A bit of background here before I get to the tip. This will be somewhat of a trip review as well.
The scout troop went out to Lake Mineral Wells State Park to the West of us here in DFW for a...
There is less weight at the foot end than the head end, with the same amount of gap before entering the hammock, the head end will form a better seal and I have always had a gap remain at the foot...
Have a friend help with this. Lay in the hammock, or have them lay in it, and adjust the suspension so that the quilt just touches the hammock. Adjust the ends so that they close nicely on the...
That fits with the philosophy of my previous post:)
I have the MacCat and really like it. I do mostly weekend camping with the scouts. For 98% (I'm not a mathlete, just a lowly engineer) of the outings, it is the perfect tarp. A couple of times in...
Go for an asym model. You'll appreciate the room.
I like the quilts better than the SS (I don't own a SS) just due to the idea of flexability and multiple usage. I have also made a quilt. It's not that difficult, especially if you can sew. There...
I had used them on a tarp tent that I had made years ago. They work great if you tie them off at 90 degrees to the sil (no side pull). They would walk with any side tension at all. The sil is just...
That was pretty cool. That thing must have blown flame out about 10 feet. Here kitty, kitty!!
My appologies if it was discussed before. I saw it for the first time this past weekend.
I saw an episode of Survivorman the other day. The scenario was a hot air baloon ride in africa that crashed. He scavenged a lot of rope and the baloon material and whipped a hammock. He said it...
I would love to join you, but can only get out on the weekend. Have a great hike.
Take 2 pieces of the foam cut to the width and depth of your pack. Sew up some tarp material (I don't think I would use sil, too slippery) on 3 sides. Make it wide enough to accomodate the pads...
I had a combo sit pad/door mat made from 2 pieces of blue ccf sewn into some tarp material. It folds in half and is the right size to also serve as a back support inside my pack. I use that to...
I clip my pack to one end of the hammock at the tree (I use the biners and descending rings), secure the hip belt around the tree and put the rain cover over the top. My pack is mostly empty anyway.
Perhaps if a ridge pole were added to prevent it from tipping in. The legs would only have to prevent lateral movement.
It was my impression, that the water bottle went in 10-15 minutes before bedtime to prewarm the mattress. You could do the same with any sleeping arrangement.
I wouldn't doubt that the 9 could go...
I did not experience any noticable condensation. On other mats, I woke up with a wet back and got cold when I turned. The exped is like a beach mattress with the tubes. If it does condensate, it...
At Philmont, they are really anal about bears. Those in my troop that have been, tell me it's 'cause they they don't want anyone without a buddy. If your hanging, your solo. Even if you have a...
Congrats on the cross over.
Initially, there was some resistance and a lot of comments from my troopmates. Over the last three years, the comments have pretty much stopped and a transition to...
I will try to explain why I purchased what I did. My shoulders are pretty wide, so I wanted the deluxe version. It's 26" wide versus 20". I went with the 9 over the 7 as it was on sale and the...
2 questions come to mind.
1) How does the weight compare?
2) Retention strength? Is it going to pull apart because the snaps are too small? Maybe use a bigger one at the very end and smaller...
Nice for a rectangular tarp. The cat cut tarps don't need all the extra rope.
