Excellent report. Can you tell us a bit about the trail itself? I've never heard of it until you mentioned it originally. Total length? Elevation gain, etc?

Dang! I'd love to go, but weekdays are no-go for me. That's super close to us too.
Of course...I still need to get my UQ/TQ sorted before any trips...
Short version: I'd love to go, but...
Are you sure that's water you're gliding along and not glass? Stunning scenery you've got there!
Our local paper ran a story about the survival bracelet somewhat recently. Now I see them everywhere. The only Military Surplus shop in town sells them for $10/each.
I've had great service and prices from http://www.diygearsupply.com/
Just bought 10 yds of his 1.1oz in woodland camo. I love me some woodland camo!
He's also a member here!
Welcome from Boise
Thanks, Grizz! You've helped me immensely already, but seeing your fabric origami illustrated just how much I was over-thinking the first cuts.
Very nice!
Welcome! From another SW Idahoan.
Thanks, tpkanu. That makes it loads clearer. I will probably look to something similar other than using webbing from the descender rings on, just because it's what I have currently. I want to...
Ok. I'm starting this project this week. I've got the material and will be cutting soon and another question popped up: How do i attach the amsteel suspension triangle to the hammock body?
...
Thanks for the advice, folks! It's becoming clearer to me now. I'm off to purchase some material. I may have more questions once the cutting begins.
I'm getting brave. I want to try a bridge hammock out and want to make it myself. I've read and re-read Grizz' and TeeDee's posts on making a bridge. So much math....brain...melting...
Anyway,...
For $10, I'm willing to give it a shot. Although 5x7 is a bit smallish for me...
+1 for Tapatalk
This would be an awesome feature for one of my favorite forums.
Should be ok as long as the trees are close enough. I swapped out ASAP because the stock cordage just isn't long enough.
You could always buy some cargo tie down straps from your local Wally...
Fantastic tarp. Just wish they'd offer it in camo again.
12x12 Guide Gear for me. Simple reason, cost. If you couldn't tell by my gear list, I'm a "budget" hanging newb. The tarp was $20 and covers more, but weighs less than one of the cheap-o blue...
Stuff sacks?
Excellent report and pics, Paul. Thanks for sharing.
I, for one, am anxious for the write up/pics! I've got to see what I missed out on. I'm still bummed that I couldn't make it work. Next year, I suppose.
I'm 6'7" and 215lbs (was 252) with the SBPro. It's a bit on the wide side in my opinion. You're far enough away from the upper weight limit of the SB, I'd go with the weight and cost savings.
I figured you'd probably do a carpool, Paul. My original plan was just to come up for an overnight visit to hang out since I'm out of vacation days. So that won't work for me. I do appreciate it,...
I'm out officially. My car is having some suspension issues to the point where I really shouldn't drive it anymore. And of course, the money that will go into fixing it... :|
Hey all,
I'm looking to get into a Clikstand S2 for my trangia stove. This would be the aluminum version, not titanium.
Current price @ campsaver is $27.95+shipping
Anyone have an extra...
I'm down. That sounds like fun. It would need to be a day hike, just so my boy can get a feel for it. And he's a super picky eater. So an overnight trip is out...at least for now.
Very nice, Paul. How old is Rock Hopper? I've not been brave enough to bring my 5 year old along yet, but I think he's ready. It's just me, the overprotective father, that isn't.
@plowhorse, It was rather funny because he set it up almost as a joke. When he laid in it he got a bit of stretch from both the paracord and the tarp, but was stills suspended. I asked: "Are you...
Anyone having any hints on my humidity problem? Was it just the weather? Or my pad? Paul, did you have any problems on your overnight hang?
@Paul, that's craziness. Too bad your plans didn't work out. Sounds like a good day fishing though.
@KerMegan, yeah, it's a pretty awesome place. It's my new favorite for overnighters. Fairly...
I just returned from a short, but excellent, overnighter to Boulder Lake. It's near McCall, ID which is about a 2.5 hour drive from my house.
This was the first proper night in a hammock for me. ...
I'm still pretty new, but I'll let you know what I've been doing:
Factor in the length of your hammock when hung to the preferred amount of sag and add the maximum length your suspension system...
I just got mine today. XL Tall in Slate. Very soft and "poofy". One problem is that it's a smidgen shorter than I'd like (6'7") but for the price, I think I'll just make do. And with EB's...
Thanks, Zmad! Just ordered the jacket. I've been looking for this kind of a deal for a long while, usually if the price is right, it's only available in XS and Circus Tent OR only blaze orange,...
I swapped out the suspension system entirely on my SBPro. S-hooks out for aluminum descender rings. Knotted worthless cordage out for 1inch heavyweight poly pro webbing. Then added the lightest...
I have the SBPro and can echo what Jeff has already said. There is a ton of netting on that beast. I've been contemplating adding a ridgeline that passes through the netting to more closely mimic a...
I'm 6'7" and I fit fine in the Grand Trunks Skeeter Beater Pro. I don't mean to throw too many options at you, but there it is.
Nothing in my Walmarts either. I feel left out. :( I even checked one in Utah on my way through. Still nothing. Anyone want to buy some for those less fortunate? ;)
Paul,
I'm still bummed I couldn't make that trek with you. During my family reunion in McCall I convinced some of the fam to do a day hike. We were aiming for a leisure stroll on a 7 mile...
As a fairly new member and owner of the SBPro, I can chime in a bit. I swapped out the s-hooks for aluminum descender rings found at REI. I just kept the stock cordage that passes throught the sewn...
Understood, thanks for the info.
I just found a queen sized down comforter in the closet that we aren't using (king size bed). The only info on the tag says:
"All new material consisting of WHITE GOOSE DOWN (minimum 75% down...
Trout and Paul,
What are the odds? I'm actually going to be in McCall July 12-18 for a family reunion. I'm not yet sure if I could pull away for a quick overnighter if that's the week you're...
Paul,
I wish I knew Arrowhead Equipment was your deal BEFORE I ordered my straps. I'm all about supporting Idaho businesses when I can. Sorry about that. :(
I'll certainly keep you in mind...
@pgibson, where are you located in Idaho? Only an hour away from scenery like that? Took me about 3 hours to get to Stanley from Boise when I went up that way in 08.
Signed,
Jealous in the city
@pgibson, I'm in Boise. That Sawtooth get-together sounds pretty amazing. Hopefully the stars will align so I can make it ;) I did a backpacking trip to Alice Lake in 2008 and haven't been back...
Hey! I'm a loooong time lurker. Just joined the club yesterday with a Skeeter Beeter Pro after gleaning tons of good info from this forum.
I was born and raised in Idaho, moving away for...
