My son's double is done exactly the same way; remove rope from channel and insert locked brummel. The other end gives him about 4' of woopie to a biner. I'll be doing mine next week at scout camp if...
We just used bone bags (us) yet suspended very close to the ground.
Mule tape seems to stretch very little if any. The entire structure does have very little flex yet when we loadedit, it did...
Thanks for the reply, this was set up referencing your tensegrity video.
The 2X4's have a little bow and twist in them under no load. When I put a 130# kid in one hammock and a 225# me on the...
Uploaded at the following links is my first attempt at a tensegrity stand.
It is a 4 pole (using 2"X4"X14' lumber) so the 4 of us can hang. Currently in the proof of concept phase; I sould have...
That's pretty much what I was after, the ability to set up quickly and independently. I just finished another bag (pictured below) from a re-purposed promo give away backpack. It is a combo tarp sack...
That is awesome, my son does it on the other end of the day; he'll be talking as we're laying down and poke when he hears me snoring. He takes great pleasure in doing it yet eventually gives up yet .
1 of us hangs with the strap coming off one side of both trees and the other off of the other side using the trees as spreaders. I like to hang about 6 to 12 inches lower so we can touch if we want...

Got outside this morning and started getting this equipment proved out.
The ropes included with the tarp are way too long, I'll be cutting them at least into 1/3's. The tarp is HUGE.
3 hammocks...
I'm starting this thread to show some of the modifications I'm doing to our Gear Guide 12X12 Tarps and Bags. The first pictures are of the the GG bag; the bottom circle was removed and a cinch...
I had been following the thread and really liked the direction it was going early on.
You went the extra mile and got this great looking badge;
I need a little help with the cost equation.

I got my 5' stick of 'shark bite' pipe last night for $1.50 and it slipped right over the trekking poles. Have already checked it out with the tarps and it is going to work great. THANKS
Those are excellent action shots, thanks for posting!
I just got the first 2 in last night and as soon as they were unpacked, they were on the sewing table getting reinforcements on the existing...
These might help. I don't have a lot of action pictures posted yet, that'll change in a couple months. If you do a search for tyvek, a member recently posted a cat cut tyvek tarp.

Way to go, the reason I need to buy more hammock stuff. I'd like to see a ground dweller try and camp there with views like that; Not gonna happen!

Yea, I'm hosed...and I hosed my family.
I started last summer with 4 Trek light doubles (1 each right?)
Then came the 4 tyvek tarps and 4 sets of treking poles.
Can't hang with out 4...
I was afraid of that which is why I made a 2nd order. I checked the 4 different places I was aware carried them and all show sold out. That seemed kinda quick yet I know this forum generated a lot...
I used to console myself by thinking 'Laugh now, but I'll be laughing later.'
I finally realized she gets that one too.
The only laughing I get to do on my man projects (sewing, cooking, cleaning,...
With the $19.97 price tag and the free shipping, I couldn't resist, I bought another 2 tarps.

Sounds like you are going on an adventure...cool.
Make sure you spend the money to buy quality. Name brands mentioned in this forum shouldn't steer you wrong. The last thing you want is a hammock...
When I went looking last summer for which hammocks to buy for the 4 of us; I was searching for value first, strength next and then price.
I did a lot of research before making the TLG choice. I...
I grew up camping with my family and later with boy scouts. As with most people who've spent at least 100 nights outdoors, most all nights on the ground remind you that you're 'roughing it.' Now that...
Good to hear you got a HH; everyone I've run into with them love em.
AND it sounds like you've already been DIYing with stuff too.
Looking forward to seeing the results.
Do you have a hammock already?
If you've never hammock camped (even in the back yard) give it a try. We know it is awesome yet some don't think so.
After that, there are a lot of designs and...
That's the same vow I made, no more ground sleeping.
I'm certain you've checked out Shug's videos. Very helpful.
Also the newbee hammock setups sticky thread in the general hammock talk forum....
That is fantastic! That's more than 7 gallons of water.
I've been working it down before hiking season too yet I haven't dropped that much.

I have to throw in the ditto to weighing everything, putting items on a spread sheet, and then attacking the heavies/working with the lighties.
Our son (in scouts) went on his first camp last...
Excellent write up on the tarp idea, construction and use. I really like the use of the easily sourced inexpensive material for your test tarp. By the time Christmas rolls around, I'm sure you'll...
Fantastic tarp, very professional.
I'm inspired to make a cammo one too.
What brand/kind of silicone? Can it be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes?

What to do when the light fades in a hammock different than a tent...Hmmm.
Well in a tent I am very busy; rolling down the slope I didn't notice, unpitching part of it to find that 1 rock or root...

Here's a little more from my perspective.
Trek light was the first plunge into hammocks we took and bought 4 Trek light doubles (2 forest...
The 2 tarps I will be making are for the 4 of us. The 2 princesses in our family are the reason I'll be upping the privacy factor. I think my son and I will still use the tyvek most of the time when...
For the money, Tyvek homewrap is great stuff for us.
I have made many items now using the stuff; some good, some not so good.
Some I've given away to others I've converted to hammocking.
The...

I have only 6 commercial hammocks and 5 completed DIY projects...I'm falling behind.
I would blame Shug too; he makes juggling, BBQing and hammocking look so easy yet then with a little practice...
That monster looks awesome!
My wife has very cautious about this 'camping thing.'
Our hammocks were a giant leap forward in comfort for her and I think if I had a packable tarp like that and a...
Thanks Papa Smurf for starting this thread.
Thanks to John Sawyer for recycling the mule tape our direction too.

Update:
The weather was perfect for ducks and desert dwellers from dusk till dawn;
it actually started raining just as we were pulling the tarp over the hammock stands. The evergreens in the...
Thanks for the positive feedback
I began to suspect that they were too short too. The version pictured with my son hanging in it is shot at a sharp angle which makes it look even shorter. The...
My son and I are getting ready for a boy scout camp in the desert (no trees.)
We'll be able to drive to the spot yet not be able to park there.
So to be prepared I decided to fabricate a couple of...
natureboy68, seems you got a 'bum steer' of the group. Pretty hard to beat the return policy though, just taking it back is one of the reasons I took the chance too.
In comparison, when our 4 Trek...
