Bienvenue! Howdy from Georgia :-) Glad to have you here!
Love it, Grizz. I've been slowly collecting materials to build my own bridge and this has rekindled my enthusiasm! I'll keep on waiting for more of the Ariel!
Great idea and great job on the video, everybody! I definitely perked up with the Dutch/whipping post medley! Great job, Shug!
Very nice looking bags! Thanks, Kyle!
Omlet, I'm not very familiar with Karo, but from what I know about other down quilts, the height of the baffle/the max height/fill amount are determined by your target temp. Usually, I think you...
Nicely done!
Just gonna jump in here and echo what a great job you did, first project or not! My much simpler synthetic top quilt I did first had several bumps and bruises from shoddy workmanship, but yours...
Thanks, Coach! That makes sense. As long as you don't just have a diamond fly with 2 tie outs your plan should work great. Thanks for the update and great job again!!
I really like this idea and will probably use it for my next set! Thanks for creating the video, good work!
I do have one question. When I've used the two skin style in the past, I could open...
Good to see some heart of GA folk on here :-) I'm a Maconnite myself, but I'm splitting my time between Rome and Suwanee now.
Fair enough! Whatever the name, it's always good to see you on the forum!
Looks nice! No more albino bear?? :-)
I used 20 as well on my top quilt and I'm happy with them. I believe you need to tool no matter what, wenestvedt, but if you're creative you may be able to come up with something!
Kyle, thanks for the code! Just put in my first order! And with a percent off code, the more you spend the more you save ;-)
Can't offer any advice on it, but it sounds like a neat idea. Interested to hear more!
Thanks for the heads up, dimjim!
Well, Clean, it looks like you've finally arrived! :-)
I'm excited!
Agree with brianb, the weight will be the main drawback along with non-synthetic cover fabric (cotton holds water, can rot, etc.) If it's for home hanging or near a car then definitely go for it and...
Been gone for a few weeks for work and just noticed this thread! Great deals, Dutch!
BTW the add to cart prices are updated, but the sale prices are still showing in the description.
Great work! This is really an incredible project and your detailed exposition satisfies even the most meticulous of gear nerds! :-D
Since, kmdtcs brought this back from the dead I went through and read the whole thread. Anyone still using this or a variation of it? I see the obvious connections between this and speed hooks or...
Thanks for all the quick responses! I will be unable to work on it for a while, but I'll go through these suggestions and let you guys know how it worked out!
So here's the issue:
You can see the really tiny stitches starting on the green fabric I scavenged from some JCP puffers

As I'm sewing along it mostly behaves until this interface of...
Everything has been super speedy and responsive on my order earlier this week. See what happens when you treat us too well, Dutch! We get paranoid if you take a bathroom break before sending...
Exciting news, keep up the good work!
I like the pillow idea, awilhelm. I guess no one else is/was as surprised by the softness! I'm thinking I may do just the inner layer of my CS top quilt with it...then again people used to just use...
Thanks, Kyle! That does look pretty similar and since Magna does a lot of military 2nds I bet you're right. Thanks for the heads up!
It does seem to have a reinforced grid. I was thinking hammock body is the most obvious choice. I'm north of that weight range so I'll go double. I'm wanting to make a bridge, but not sure exactly...
Looks nice! Also, I'm sure the name was etched in to save a few milligrams of titanium :-)
You're spot on, Dutch. I had some issues with customer service over a few months before finally getting my order, so I was hoping to avoid calling again.
If anyone can help with the codes, that...

So, I got about 40 yards of the fabric you see above. I don't know exact details as it was a replacement for a different fabric I ordered that went out of stock at Magna Fabrics.:scared: ...
Thanks for chiming in, Dutch! I really enjoy my argon stuff, I think I was just pleasantly surprised by the nylonD. Do you think it's too breathable for a UQ or TQ?
I absolutely agree, heycorb. Being in Georgia, it's warmer than most locales and basically always requires a bugnet (mosquitos are already terrorizing)!
Thanks for chiming in! I figured down was out, but you never know what people on here have tried!
So maybe too breathable for uq, but that'd probably ok for top then, huh? I sweat a good amount...
WOW! I just got in some NylonD 1.0 and I'm pretty blown away by the softness. I've made an argon 90 top and underquilt and thought they were soft, but this NylonD is incredible. I got it to make...
That sounds about right!
I agree with you, clean! They are really cost prohibitive to buy in small amounts and it would be nice to buy them from one of our own. Maybe just pick some of the most common shapes/sizes and go...
I've used the smaller and larger sizes and prefer the small one, actually. Too much fabric for the big one! I'm 5'10" and have been up to 280lbs when using them. My wife thinks (and I agree) that...
So no wear on your set, Richard?
Thanks guys! I wasn't sure exactly what part was causing the issues...I thought it might've been the wrap part on the back, so independent of normal whoopie...
So what's the consensus on using them as plain whoopie hooks? I've got a couple sets and I don't mind using them on a standard whoopie suspension. Do I just need to file the hook edges smooth and...
Yeah, unfortunately Preacher is right, I got about a pound of down out of mine...
Good luck!
FYI, I've gotten the myfilestore redirect a few times in the last few days.
Here's a great tutorial for fleece top quilt that could be applied to the poncho liner as well:

This is for a synthetic...
Welcome from Rome!
Scotty, how do you like those truffle/D baffles? I've debated on them myself, but wasn't sure how they work in the wild :-) Any details on your quilt? Thanks!
I hate to revive an old thread, but I thought this would be interesting to people asking the same questions I am while researching for a first down quilt. It looks like backpacker covered some of...
I think the problem there, Five Tango, like with a sleeping bag is the insulation compressing under you. This could let the parts of your feet touching the hammock get cold, rather than being...
