We are all on this DIY addiction together...lets share the crazy. I use the bottom cut off of a 1 gallon denaturared alcohol can for my cooking pot because it is DIY, even though it is the same...
the UQ is 3 layers of IX with a top and bottom of 1.1oz ripstop.
The hammock is a single layer if 1.9oz ripstop.
they do and that isn't as flat as I can get it but it seems for now to be more comfy setup not quite as tight.
This is my version of a Bridge hammock, I copied BER's cloud bridge and added 5% to it....I guess he had the same idea with his third bridge.
The spreader bars are made of steel broom handles...

Mine CF rod comes from Homedepot. it is a rod used to mark the edge of a curb for snow removal, so they don't run over the curb in deep snow.
Are you sure it will be stiff enough those CF...
used to hang 2 8ft hammocks in my VW van from the front window to the back hatch back...it worked better than a tent.

head a few miles north to Boulder and do the Mesa trail...my favorite trial in the area. I start at NCAR and go South as far as you want to go (7 miles one way). Gorgeous views, great hike.

Looking forward to that CF update. my spreaders are 10.2oz, head spreader is a steel broom handle 41" long and foot spreader is solid CF rod 31" long. The CF rod only weights 2.1oz but at the head...
I took my 1/8" leather Huaraches on a rugged hike last week. In the mountains it was very rocky and rough. On the dirt parts they worked great, but on the rocky areas I couldn't hang. I use my...
THis is very interesting...a synthetic "down" product sounds great to me! I will be watching this thread.
that is beautiful! I like how flat it lays, I am wide shouldered too and am about to make me a Bridge. I think I want it a little longer but other than that I really like final fit.
Thanks for...
I made something similar out of 1.1 ripstop, it was for all my food to be hung from a tree. It has a simple draw string and then I put a 4" X 24" head strap on the drawstring and it works great as a...
Cuben hammock...I guess it had to happen sooner or later.
Very nice job and you will be warm!

Ya the stitches really concerned me so I x4 stitched them them then siliconed them so there would be no moister that could rot them. I reallly stuff that pack as tight a possible and the makes a...
I found the frameless part of my pack less than I expected until I turned my pack into a stuff sack and jammed all my soft stuff down as tight as possible in the bottom portion of the pack, which...
staps are made from heavier nylon (flag nylon at Hancock fabric) and closed foam inside. I made my shoulder straps 5" wide and double the padding...works great! Don't forget the head strap works...
very true...i think this is my big struggle....we all love our new toys, especially when it saves weight!!
I like this idea as well! Nice and cheap, and carpet runner huaraches can be rolled up and stuffed just about anywhere (probably hold up to twigs a little better too).
They can...
Love my huaraches...I made mine for rubber backed carpet runner. Made 3 pair for $6 and I love them...just did a good hike with them today and I love my feet out in the open. Our toes need to...
I am 220 pounds and have laid in it with my 50 pound daughter with no issues. it is 1.9 ripstop.
I have a full pack that comes out to just over 15 pounds...I struggle with this Concept...If I lost only 5 pounds (80 oz) from my gut it would be free and make hiking that much easier...or spend...
Rbinhood thanks for the comprehensive explanation about down power. It is good to know where I am starting from.
I will make it with the down I have and then not do a doubled over stitch on the...
That would be something amazing if it were around 700 power down...and it gets better since I have recalculated the amount of down to 24oz! :D
I have enough to make a high loft down vest too. I...
I did a test that I think tells me the down power. My understanding is 900 fill power means 1 oz of down will loft 900 sq " of space.
So I get exactly 1oz of my down put it in a 900 sq "...
Thanks for that...I do want to get this down to freezing or lower with the proper clothing on. I will look at the width of my sleeping bag because that is a great width for me to tuck and full...

Wow I just asked the question as to how a Thread Injector was different from my sewing machine...I thought is was some high end industry sewing machine that might do something special.
Glad we got...
Nice looking tarp...I like the clean lines.
WOW 1200 pounds of holding power, I guess this concept is very sound.
Look great....did the same thing with a stake that looks exactly like your knitting needles. Mine work very well.
Very clean look...is it tested sturdy?
can't wait for the pics
Funny Money I think the cold was from the head of my hammock too high and me sliding down past my UQ and until the UQ was right at my butt...instead of my mid thigh. Next time I will get the hammock...
Did my first sleep test with my 3 layer IX, it was a good sleep and plenty warm for a low of 50 degrees F. I followed the original directions exactly and am very happy. The back of my legs and feet...
I just tuck my foot under my knee to stop the edge digging in...but I like the recline when sitting in my hammock. I also sit cross legged, that is pretty comfy too.

Yes silnylon is a pain to sew, use lots of pins and look at my post from a couple of days ago on no-sew tie outs...they work great and super easy to do.
