Looks great! And thanks for the shout out. *Blushes* Can't wait to see the double.

I, certainly, want to know how it turns out.
HikingDad,
What would be the pros and cons, in your opinion, of each, WBRR and DIY?

OK. Before answering here's the madatory disclaimer: DO NOT HANG HIGHER THAN YOU'RE WILLING TO FALL. DO NOT TRY ANYTHING I'M ABOUT TO TELL YOU. That should about cover me.
I am an engineer,...
OK. I think I understand how the forces are acting. Your weight and the straps both have force components pulling the frame towards the center. I missed that. You might be able to get the rigid...
Personally, I would do some testing with it. What I'm thinking is just taking a straight piece about 6" long and slipping it over the two pieces being connected. From there you'd have a couple pins...
For the straight fitting, I was thinking something like this:
...
I read your post on your website. I have a thought that you might find intriguing. You could cut weight and bulk by cutting off the center leg. I realize you may need the hinge. You probably even...
How about this one?

Hey, they're in the air. That's what counts. Glad you found a solution.
There's a video out there of a guy who just used a 1.25" hardwood dowel by 4'-5' tall with a couple guy lines for each end. I'll see if I can find the video.
The sizes y'all are referencing are the 7/64". The sizes I'm looking at are 1/8". You might think it a bit overkill, but I'd rather have the extra strength than the weight savings.
Also, their price for 1/8" by the foot is $0.29 before shipping.
In my search for Amsteel I found this site. It's the cheapest I've found, yet, for a 600ft roll.

Which size do most people prefer? 60x126 or the 90x132? I'm 6'1". Derek uses the 60x126 in his video.
Thanks for both answers. That really sheds some new light on sleep systems.
What's the hottest you would recommend using it? I've done some camping in 80* weather that drops to about 70* at night and end up with slight CBS because I don't want to get to hot with a UQ. I've...
Thanks, DanglingModifier. That was my basic understanding of them, but another thread got me thinking about the SOL Escape Bivvy. The price and size are right and it's supposedly breathable, but...
I've never used a bivvy before. Other than being considerably more compact, how do they compare to sleeping bags/quilts? I.E. Is there a learning curve to using a bivvy?; Can they be used in a...
Cannibal, do you have any suggestions on where to purchase a decent Brazilian?
While the spreader bar is doable, my wife and I typically use the three tree setup. Feet share a tree and heads have separate trees. We're still using one tarp, we're close to each other, but not...
Indeed, Momma is a great seamstress. She made mine and my sister's costumes for Halloween and plays, growing up. She even made my sister's wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses, to which she said,...
Well, unfortunately, it's not going to happen for this trip :(. I do still plan on doing it, but I need to get more familiar with my thread injector. I thought I was doing well on some practice...
Thanks, Dave. I appreciate the insight.
Anybody else have some ideas?
OK, so I was strolling through the mart of walls the other day and found myself looking at the comforters thinking, "hmm...I could probably make a UQ and TQ from a queen size comforter" and also...
Flipflop, check out Randy's review:

Just wanted to let people know that ManVenture had both size tarps and reasonably priced. I hit the button on both a couple days ago and hope to have them in about a week.
12'x9'6" $35.12...
Thanks a lot, guys. I especially appreciate the site references. The only places I've found the 14 x 12 in stock are over $70. I'm still looking, but I think I'll be getting the 12 x 9.6.
Hey guys! I'm in the market for a tarp. I've been looking at the Chinooks for a while, but the prices keep changing all over the place. Does anyone know a good source for these?
Also, my wife...
Has this thing sold yet? Also, what kind of suspension does it have?
Since you're counting grams, I'd change the scrunchies to simple pieces of ribbon that I could tie around the hammock or just leave it tied together at the end of the hammock and slide it down when...
+1 on the mesh skins. I'd also check this out http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16945
I personally use a rolling hitch (taut-line hitch) to pitch my tarp RL. It's pretty easy...
If you check the picture, though, they aren't meant to hang from. just to keep a hammock from tipping.
*Bump* Nobody has any comments?
I would definitely love to see that, as well as, see how much it would hold :scared:
I’ve got some ideas and questions on diy UQs and TQs. My first idea is for a modular UQ. I’m thinking about a ripstop nylon outer and a fleece inner, just basically a two-sided blanket, darted at...
6'2" here. The HH Explorer is a great length for me. It's comfy and roomy. I just really want to at least try a WBBB. I think the footbox and shelf are options that I think I will really like.
The WBBB has a similar style opening, if I remember correctly, on the zipper side. Brandon mentions this in one of his videos.
How soon do you need one? I'm thinking about getting a Warbonnet Blackbird when Brandon gets back. I hear they're roomy and it's hard to beat the shelf.
My gf is 4'11" and has an HH Scout. It works well for her. It took me a couple tries to get it hung right, though. I was doing it in the dark and didn't get it hung tight enough to pull the...
Make one side of a hammock stand or just make the whole thing and be done with it. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19517
I have seen "butterfly camo" before at wal-mart. it looks like camo from afar, but it's butterflies when you get up close. If I remember correctly, it was ripstop something. I know, I'm a lot a...
Ok, that makes sense.
That makes sense, too, somewhat. If you’re pulling the stake into the ground what do you need the stake for?
OK, now you’ve lost me:confused:. Are you talking...
Yes, that's exactly what I have wondered. I'm thinking about getting a WBBB. I've thought about asking Brandon if he can do a "mirrored" BB. but that'll have to wait until he's back from his...
Definitely check out JustJeff's gear hammock. I plan on making one myself.
That does seem a little odd to me. When I lay in my hammock on the diagonal the whole hammock opens up. There's a slight raise in the centerline but not so much that it's in my face if I'm facing...
yes, but is it more comfy to sleep that way on your left or right side?
+1 for the rebar. great stake material and since you're already planning on using a stand (= weight not an issue) you can use a 2 lb sledge to hammer into unruly soil. And a pair of ViseGrips for...
I would also like to see an answer/suggestion/opinion on this topic.
