That's how myself and many others got started. It's a cheap way to get started and does work, albeit heavy, but that sounds like it is not an issue for you. The main drawback I had was getting it...
I made a Multicam Intruder with cat cuts and rolled hems. Haven't used in in the rain much, but very happy with how it turned out. I was worried that I would need the grosgrain on the edges, but...
Thanks for the sale, great time to try out a HyperD XL hammock.
This would be very cool and helpful in deciding on new fabrics.
Also, for what its worth, RBTR instructions for their tarp kit say to seal the inside.
I've seen people post every option you listed and have not heard of a "best" way to do it. From what I've seen, the various reasons are as follows, I'm by no means an expert so hopefully those with...
I'm a fan of the cinch buckles and webbing on my hammock suspension. Fast, easy and provides a lot of adjustment to dial in how you want your hammock to lay.
Great reminder, glad no one was injured.
As Slowski said, a steeper angle will help. The steeper the angle, the less snow will be able to accumulate on the tarp.
Congrats! Thanks for all you do for our community.
I found this right after I replied to your original post.

I would imagine a DIY version wouldn't be too...
Hadn't thought of this, interesting idea!
I would be concerned that the forces pulling the seam apart might be an issue, however, with a grosgrain ridgeline it might not be an issue at all. If it were an issue, it might be mitigated by...
I would personally recommend an 11ft hammock. I find it more comfortable. As for double or single layer I think it would depend on the material choice, but I will let others with more knowledge...
Very informative. Guess I'll have to learn how to splice now.
Congrats! Looks good, and you have the satisfaction of making it yourself.
No need to change for me, I think I have the wife onboard so I should be good.
I'm in the same situation of trying to make two events work on one weekend. I think it will work though. I tried once without the net and got eaten at night. Went and ordered a netted hammock after I...
Any other Green Country folks have any interest?
I'm thinking I may give a double layer, regular width a try. She would have her purple and it would hold us both, just wouldn't get to try out a double width. Thanks for the help, I appreciate all...
I agree that sleeping with two would be uncomfortable and is a gimmick. We were just wanting a larger width for sitting around together, not actually sleeping. With her favorite color being purple...
Thanks for the help!
Hey everyone, have a question about the PolyD 1.4 from Dutch. My wife and I would like to make a double width hammock (single layer if possible) in the deep purple. I haven't seen a weight rating on...
Thanks for posting Flash. Gonna save this one for future use.
Not to rain on your parade, but intro posts do not count to the best of my knowledge.
I finished the seam sealing and got it weighed tonight. Came in at 17.2 oz. on my kitchen scale. While not super lightweight, I'm happy with it especially with the amount of coverage I get from it.
Too true! Hopefully I don't lose it on my first outing!
Thanks, I definitely recommend the RBTR kit. Comes with everything you need and comes with the parts to make some stuff sacks.
Thank you! Much appreciated. You've got yourself a good looking hammock!
Where did you get your fabric? Is that the Deep Purple color or is there a purple that I have been missing? My wife would like a hammock in that color.
I've been to Greenleaf and it is nice. I've also heard that Blue Creek at Oologah has nice campgrounds and it has some hiking trails as well. Just throwing out another idea that's in the area.
I would be interested in an OK hang as well.
Update: I sealed my tarp tonight and tried to use the tape method you mentioned. I was just using regular masking tape, not any fancy painters tape and it did not stick well. I ended up just...
It certainly is, and addictive!
Thanks, I'm looking forward to seeing how the Multicam looks out in the woods.
I would agree DustHunter, I've noticed more and more hammockers in the area over the past few years. Always good to see more people joining, and not being the "weird" guy that sleeps in a hammock.
I think it works now, please let me know if it is still not showing.
Hmm, I can see it on my phone and desktop. I will see if I can figure out what's wrong.
I finished sewing my first tarp and all I have left to do is seam seal. It should be quite and upgrade from my classic Walmart tarp. I used the 10x12 hex hit from RBTR and am happy with how it turned...
Another Okie converted!
I'm trying to figure out which tarp suspension I want to go with and would like to give a pair of Dutch Stingerz a try. If anyone has a pair they are no longer using and want to part with, let me...
I'm working on my diy tarp right now and do not plan on sealing the edges. Like DustHunter I think it is unnecessary so close to the edge. It would just be extra work and extra weight imo.
I like that idea, I may give it a try when I get to that stage, seems like it would give a clean line and less chance of over run.
I'm currently in the process of making my first tarp, almost done sewing the ridgeline. I chose to do the flat felled/French seam hybrid per RBTR's directions. I've been trying to figure out the...
Have not seen anything like this, would be interested to know if anyone else has. It would probably be relatively easy to make one out of old military Gore-Tex bivy's. I picked up some pretty cheap...
I would totally give this a try, but as others mentioned, where's the underquilt? If the height isn't, the wind has got to be killer in a location like that.
Brianb, looks good. I like that it is also portable. I'll have to try something similar when I get around to making a stand.
I like the idea of a hammock within the tent. I might have to look into making myself a stand! Would also be nice for my backyard with no trees
Yes, that is the plan! I'll have to be careful she doesn't snag my thermarest and leave me with the old foam roll tho! Might just "accidentally" forget the thermarest and only have old foam rolls.
Pyrrha1, I have the exact problem with my wife, I'm trying to get her into camping, but as soon as I mention getting her a hammock she thinks that its because I don't want to spend time with her....
