The cool thing about shock cord is you a 2 to 1 expansion. I'm pretty sure if you used a bit (foot or so) of shock cord in your suspension you'd get the desired effect of drawing the sides of the uq...

One of the other advantages of the grosgrain channel along the perimeter of the quilt, sides & ends, is for shock cord. Tension on the shock cord keeps the quilt snug to the underside of the hammock....
