I'll be off work this weekend but I'm not sure if I'll make it.
I've got a lot of other stuff I should be taking care of and the Sunday weather has me a bit nervous for the drive home. My car...
I'll see if I can make it. May be tied up work wise though - I won't know for a while.
I picked up a head cold yesterday - unless I feel better in the morning, I'll skip.
I'll try to make ... may be working though.
Gideon.
I was just day-hiking so not paying attention but I think there's a "no campfires" sign posted at Hawn.
Stoves only.
I'll let you know Gideon. Still a few things up in the air before I can commit.
I did the North loop as a day hike last weekend. Lots of ice flowers around - good time to be out.
Think I'll try to make it too. Had a trip to Ohio this weekend but I'm not going.
I'll probably be slow - getting over some nasties.
Should be a great weekend to hang.
I have but it's been a few years. I can't say I remember any site better than another.
I went back to about the 5th site on the right away from any close neighbors, and saw a couple of trees that...
Meh. I'll be in Florida that weekend. Have fun guys.
Have fun guys. I was going to come but my engine light came on this morning so I'll be chatting with a mechanic instead.
Sounds great but I just got back from an outing in tick-land.
I'd guess I picked up somewhere around 10-20 ticks per mile - that in addition to all the flying face-critters (and the heat) that...
Haven't done the whole trail sectioned a fair bit; enough to say it's easy to get lost.
Get John Voigts' pocket guide if you haven't already. It has all the GPS coordinates as well then adds the...
Not sure - never know the work calendar this far out - but it's a great excuse to get hammock with a bug net just in case.
Already have plans thru mid-afternoon. Might show up before dusk though.
Great photos guys. Quite an adventure. Glad I missed it.:)
Gideon, Did you take your Darien UL?
Sounds like you guys had a time to remember...once you get dry and warm again.
Congrats.
Welcome,
Sounds like your in RNGN's stomping grounds. Keep an eye on his posts. You guys have the same interests.
I'm on south, StL. Metro East area.
Gideon - I grew up in southeast Ohio. Great hiking in the area. I get over for at least once a year at hit the forest.
You could do a lot worse.
Hey guys.
I'd have a hard time keeping up with you all on that distance anyway but I was hoping to offer any logistics support/travel/etc. you might want and at least get few miles a night in...
Welcome. I'm from "So-Ill." too although I've been doing more on the Missouri side lately.
Several nice hangs in Shawnee though. Maybe we can get together.
Thom - I'm tied up that weekend. Fantasy Baseball draft day only comes once a year. :)
Had a great time guys.
Hairbear - follow you anywhere...which is a good thing because we're likely to end up just about anywhere.
Change of plans. I'll be working over the weekend.
Great.
What time you want to meet up?
Just meet there or at a trailhead?
Sounds good. I never know about work this far out but set a place and time and I'll try to make it.
Sounds good.
Hairbear
You're really setting yourself up for a new trail name with that story. Sorry I missed it.
Good trick Gideon. Get yourself some new cook gear and pass the old down to Pyro.
Been reading the plans. Sure which I was going with you all but my wife's Christmas present (Jamaica) is this...
No such luck rngn, I'll only be a 1000 miles away. You'll still hear me.
My wife's talking about taking a few days to a warmer climate over the MLK day weekend as a shared Christmas present to both of us. She'll be getting busy at her work the next week.
So I may be...
Never know about the weekend availability this far out but I'll get it on the calendar...as soon as I get a 2013 calendar that is.
Hey hairbear - You didn't miss anything in the glade. The green glow was camera magic. I solarized the pic.
Great time. Here's some more pics.
Rngn and I go together at Ferne Clyff SP, IL over the weekend.
Great weather and a weekend with the trees looking the fall best.
Maps weren't the best though so we retraced a bit looking for...
Primitive campsite - 1/2 mile or so off Turkey Ridge camp trailhead.
RNGN and I will be at Ferne Clyff around noon-ish Saturday if anyone wants to join us.
Also there's a meteor shower Saturday night so leave the tarp down wherever you are. :)
Short notice but the weather looks good for this weekend.
I plan to hit Ferne Clyffe SP -the primitive campsite (1/2 mile from Turkey Ridge parking) around noon Saturday. Anyone interested is...
O'Fallon here if you guys are looking to carpool.
Bell Mountain in November ? Man you guys are killing me.
Too early to say for sure but I'll get in on the calendar.
Wonder if Brandon can make you a baby sling with a bug net.
Sounds like a winner - I'll watch the thread for the times.
I'll have to dig my gear out of the rear of the closet. It's been year and a half since I've been out. Always wanted to check out Meramec SP though.
I've done Shawnee a few times - usually around One Horse Gap. Good spots. But it's still too hot for my liking.
I'm in the StL area - loved to check out Shawnee more.
I did some hangs on the Illinois side earlier but I've put up the pack until the heat (and bugs) die down.
Thinking I'll head over the to the Mo. area in the fall though. Looks nice.
Used to live in Ohio too. Logan - pretty near Zeleski. Now I'm in S. Illinois (O'Fallon) but I still get back once or twice a year. Did a hang in Wayne NF over Memorial Day.
IMO - SE Ohio beats...
Absolutely amazing. Gonna make reservations tonight. :)
Happy Anniversary.
Just got back from hanging in Hocking Hills the week after Memorial Day. Great time. I grew up in Logan but live in Illinois now. Might check out Zeleski in the area too.
Great idea. Thanks.
Always on the look out for my next buff - they're great.
