Kinda varies. All of my quilts are 22" with tabbed snaps a foot beyond that.

any possibility of some ATACS FG silpoly?
About to make a bug net out of .5 nano The stuff is nothing like the .7 noseeum. Much silkier, but a lot more snag prone.
I use a 3/8 inch wide piece of grosgrain to reinforce the buttonhole. It helps to go around twice. A quick singe with a lighter helps seal it from fraying.
pics would help
promise I was only ordering 4 yards
Just tried to order some and every bit is gone. Seriously went from almost full to all gone in seconds. Bummer. Kyle, safe to say this will be a big seller. Now if we could get some HyperD in ATACS...
no. You'll spend more time fighting it than getting it to work. The Rotary even foot might be an option but it's a little pricey. Seems like most of the fabrics we would use are to light for most of...
Calling it.... PolyHyperDSil in plaid of course.
Those governments are aware of the addictive nature of Dutch Bling and have acted accordingly :)
2 layers of 3.6 might get you in the mid 20's. Just depends on how warm you sleep and what you wear.
I'm assuming you mean the 1.6 version. Probably OK to hangout in if she's under 120 lbs. Wouldn't even try sleeping two to any hammock outside a little snooze. Worth it to carry two hammocks.
Agree as well. I tried my Apex 5 in the lower 30s and it was just on the verge of being too cold. Did not have any base layers, just a 40 degree TQ. 2.5 to 40 with additional layers or a very warm...
When you hear her say "I really like that purple stuff" regarding some PolyD 1.4, what are you suppose to do? Next thing you know you end up saying stuff like "my bride, mother of my children, ...
But it's ok if said Dutch bling is for the wife... right
hard to believe...
heycorb and I just fell off the Dutchware wagon... again.
about to do the same. Going with an 8 footer. Smaller and saves a little on the cost and weight.
1.3 ounces per square yard. Under $60 for good tarp material is a good deal. Unless you know of a way to do silicone impregnation where it comes out like commercially made fabric, I can't imagine it...
You are asking a lot from one piece of gear. Seems like the multi-purpose, not good at anything rule applies. Bug nets are one of your easier DIY projects. As far as using it for ground, you...
Fronkey bug net I made is 8.8 Oz in a mesh stuff sack. made of .7 and fits a 110" RL.
How did the sealing go?
Had something similar happen to my skeeter beeter. Tear-aid works fine if you aren't OCD about being able to see the patch. GT might even warranty it.
Might just hold out for electronoseeum or yoctoseeum.
If it's a kilt, you're not suppose to have anything under it. That's at least what all the locals told everyone when I went to Scotland.
DWR might not be enough if you are looking a smaller tarp. If you made it out of cuben, it probably would work well. Only thing that I see might be an issue is getting in and out of your hammock...
Misting is one of those tradeoffs with anything sil. I've only really noticed it one time and that was hour 12 of a 16 hour continuous rain where I was in a tent in an open field. Even then it...
On my last tarp, I went with 3/4 grosgrain along the side of the tie-out point, then box stitched a loop to the intersection of the V. This is easy to do and cuts down on some places for sealer. At...
I'm really liking the RBTR's silpoly. Even though the first gen had issues with seam sealer, it was made for a good material. I have some 2nd Gen, and it should be better. Silnylon is always...
Glad I asked that. Guess who would have been the guy to run it as a topstitch?
Sounds like a challenge Dutch
Hate to criticize some new idea, but what problem is this attempting to solve? Looks really complicated and heavy, plus you are limited in your site selection. Obviously not for backpacking, but I'm...
Might be overkill, but we all know Dutch could sell fake dog poo on his site and it would sell like hot cakes if it was titanium.
How well does the shirring run through your machine? It looks like really thin shock cord (1/32 or 1/64). I could see a few uses for this on a TQ. Very cool project.
All of my down stuff has had a few escapees from time to time. If it's at a seam, you could always run another line through it if it's bad. Because your shell breathes it will give the finer feathers...
Can you get closer shot? Is it taking the compression off the amsteel?
Maybe Dutch could start selling these on his site and give Snowball a cut of the sales. Once you've blinged out your hammock, tarp and quilt, might as well do the same for your machine right? Go...
This is one thing I'm finding annoys me more. I have 10'10" tarp and a 10.5' hammock. seems like getting the ends of my hammock exactly under the edges of the tarp when I lay in it takes more work...
+1 on the loop turner for amsteel. I broke one trying to splice Zing-it. Nothing I make need more than 3 inch bury so the #16 sized needle can cover it all. I got mine from Dutch and it hasn't been...
The small needle Dutch sells and a set of needlenose pliers is all you really need to do the splicing
If you had to put an estimate on how much lighter, what would it be? About to start a down quilt project and this would be useful info.
what kind of thread are you using?
Start an inch or so in with a couple of manual flywheel turns, then back stitch to as close to the edge as you can. Keep as much tension on the fabric as you can.
Go to dutchwaregear.com and buy one of his hammocks. I'm sure he would set up with a hammock and suspension that would cost as much or less than what you get from a big box company and it will be...
Gotta factor on shock weight too. I saw a bigger guy get in hammock rated to 275 and it held him fine. Just had to ease into it. Now if he did any type of bounce, it could stress the fabric.
Don't compress. You'll damage the down. Your stuff sack should allow for some squish. You will claim back a lot of space in your pack by putting your quilt at the bottom and let it form to the shape...
should be able to test it this weekend.
are you shooting for a 20 degree or a little warmer?
looks great. What did it end up weighing and what are your baffle dimensions?
Wish this came out sooner. I'm using a 2.5 and 5 layer on a quilt now. Fewer layers definitely makes it easier to run through the machine. Not that multiple is hard, it's just one less thing to...
