Do you at least make them carry their own food? My two go through it pretty quick :D
Wow, I haven't been on hammockforums in a couple of years (I'm content with my setup) and I suddenly got notifications in my email.
For ntxkayakr, look into tripods at either end with a ridgepole...
LOL, towards the end he looked like he was ready to try a nap :)
Good job!
I asked about that once. I don't remember exactly why, but it was considered a bad idea.
For your suspension, I think using straps all the way to the hammock would be the way to go, using some welded steel rings to cinch it.
As easy as whoopies are, non-hammock people (friends &...
If you're not dead set on that style, you could easily make a backpackable stand. If it were me, I'd do the inverted V w/ guyline style, using aluminum tent poles.
I bet someone you know has it growing in their backyard. You might try a facebook post...
I'll be a naysayer. If all you want is one or two things, and you just care about the end results (having the items you need), and don't care at all about the process, just buy them. There's plenty...
Double the amount of fabric, and use hoops instead of bows. If the tarp is a cylinder, it won't matter if it spins.
How much of a bury did you use on your adjustable ridgeline? I used 8-10" (guesstimating), and I have a lot of issues with it loosening automagically.
BTW, nice gear :)
Actually, you just *think* making gear can get expensive. Try getting a "free" motorcycle on the road. Pop by one day, I'll give you one & you can see for yourself :P
I had a similar issue, I re-whipped my ends to tweak it a bit & was able to fix it.
Oops, I caught this thread too late. I was going to suggest dual-purposing your straps. Since you'll be motorcycle camping, use the ratchet straps to tie your gear down, then when you arrive, use...
I like the idea of a silnyl sock, almost like a hanging bivy sack. I've also worried about condensation.
My first thought is to put a breathable panel along the bottom. Bugnet would work, but...
Nice pack, indeed. I've thought about making something similar, but I tend to be hard on "external" gear. Best backpack I ever owned was an old (VietNam era?) canvas backpack. I'm not sure if a...
Just make a tarp. Use lots of seam sealer :P
While you're doing that, you might as well build a better, light-weight shell...
I back-spliced my loose end so it wouldn't unravel. I also use a continuous loop to larkshead to the hammock, and use the soft shackle to connect that to the suspension. I like your way better :)
I think you'd be better off using tyvek, unless you're going to use silnylon.

The title isn't very descriptive, but this sticky pretty much tells it all.
Lots of brass & curlicues? Maybe some copper tubing coiled around the legs?
Pics or it didn't happen :)
I tried making a pair a while back, using some thick leather I have. I was trying to make some that slipped on, but didn't go between your toes (I loathe that). I used tabs to attach the straps, so...
Good point. I think I'll try it & take pics for the viewer's amusement :)
I picked up a few of the SA down throws, and that's what I do. I like it because it's modular, when it's not too cold, I only use one. Very cold, I use two stacked.
I did mean the hammock, not the tarp. Similar to the NX-250, but one pole diagonally. I think I'll try the poboy method this weekend, wrap patches around the pole ends and use some string to tie a...
I was just thinking, instead of tie-outs, make two little pockets & use flexible tent poles. You should be able to bow it over your ridgeline, out of the way, and still open up space. No worrying...
I used to think you were alright. Now I think I hate you :P
This is what I was going to suggest.
Are you using a decent quality thread? That will make a huge difference. Also, I had a similar issue, I had some itty-bitty bits of thread jammed in the bobbin holder. Once I cleaned that out & used...
I think I'd be more likely to cut one side of it off instead of the middle. If you cut a strip out of the center, it's gonna be hard to not have a cold spot.
I thought this was going to be one of those stories where you screw everything up to "trick" her into doing it for you. I got asked to cook dinner 2 times... :)
As for your rolled hems, unless...
Nice to see you have your priorities in order. Drinks, women, everything else :P
So what do you hang from? I know there aren't any trees in AZ...
Pretty neat. I wonder if you could use some snips from a chain link fence & some needlenose pliers & make some.
Hey, can you URL us with that?
I'm all for saving the earth, but in my experience, anything "green"=over-priced & under-performing.
I would be worried about the stability of the feet, too. What about an a-frame design? Something like this very basic drawing :P I put two different ideas for bracing the top bar, one on the outside...
I think hammocks lend themselves to the DIY mindset. It's easy to start out easy, a simple piece of ripstop with hems & gathered ends. It's simple enough that most anyone can do it. Then you ride the...
Vermont's Barre Army Navy is having a closeout sale. I'm not sure exactly what the material is, but it's cheap :)

You could try a couple of the down throws from Sports Authority or something similar. They aren't too heavy & they aren't real expensive. I have two, so I double up if it's going to be real cold.
...
I wouldn't say it's *wrong*, but you could try to rough sand the end that slips, and possibly tighten up the lashing.
I use one of the joints on my bamboo to keep it from sliding.
What about a full-length netting "underquilt"?
That would make a good keychain...
Seems so simple, why didn't I think of that? :)
I took the core from a 24" piece of coax, folded it in half, and used needle nose pliers to put tiny loops in the end (to mask the sharpness and help it to slide through the interior).
What do you mean by "homemade lathe"?
Cool toggles :P
You can always sew the channel and whip it in the gathered style. That's what I did.
Soft shackles http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18996&highlight=soft+shackle+pictoral
make a great addition to your keychain. I put it around the ring & pulled the end all the way...
If you used fence railing, you could possibly have 2-piece poles, 3' or so long. I was thinking of strapping my tripod setup upright to the sissy bar. It'd stick way up, and look funny, but I deal...
Don't mummy bags usually have a cylindrical footbox? If it's a rectangular bag, just shape it when you sew it up.
