Welcome from Ontario, Canada :)
Welcome! When I first read the thread title, I thought you were from North Bay, Canada :)
Sounds like he was a great guy. Sad to hear of his passing.
Thanks Pappy and gunner76.
Tried to do a search on his username to learn a little more about him, but it returned invalid. Is OBXH20 correct?
That makes sense Mark. But regarding the pines, most, if not all campsites at provincial parks I've been in have very mature red & white pines and the canopy is pretty thick. Nice on the feet...
Where are you guys (and gals) setting up where you can see the stars while under the canopy of the trees? In the provincial parks I camp in, you are hard pressed to see enough sky to appreciate the...
I'm curious as to whether a 2" sheet of Styrofoam SM (or any rigid foam insulation board) plus a 1½" comfort pad would work. SM is pretty strong and would give an R-value of 10, + whatever R-value...
Mine was only a few days, and had to cross the border.
If you're fast, you can pick up a decent bargain here, but act quickly, they go fast.
When checking in at an Ontario Parks office for backcountry camping, they will ask you what colour your canoe and tent/tents are so they can find you in case of emergency. My canoe is safety orange...
The guide says 75 Km's, but in reality it is more like 100. How heavy was your pack?
I'm not the sharpest hammer in the bag sometimes.
I set up my hammock in the back yard when it first arrived. The closest trees I could hang from were about 25' apart, so my ridgeline was hung...
I have three different Hennessey's (gathered end hammocks?). Got an Amok Dramr 3.0 and love the luxury of sleeping flat :)
Hey Mikael, time to update your profile!
I put my hand through the bug screen on my Amok 3.0 just prior to a September canoe trip. The bugs were few so I didn't bother with it at all. I got bit only once but enjoyed the sleep more than I...
Hi Mikael. I camped under the Hennessey Hex fly earlier this fall. Seemed to work fine for me. It did rain once and the hammock stayed dry.
This is one of those rare instances, like flying coach on a six hour flight, that being short is truly an advantage. I knew there had to be some upside to this :shades:
Love the 3.0 Best nights of...
For those that are able to have one shipped to them, the MEC Reactor Summer Pad is 34% off; that's $65 in CDN pesos, which I believe is further discounted to the US$ by 32%. Why, they're practically...
Uneducated question: Is Fibonacci at work in here somewhere? After all, the Golden Section is found at work in nature and we're hanging in nature.
Also, Does the length of rope/strap from the tree...
And this is why we need a 'like' button, to highlite those posts that make you say: "Bingo!"
. It's funny how pervasive that logic is. Some of the guys I canoe camp with, many folks over at myccr.com (a canoe camping forum), people I know... A lot of them call it a 'bear burrito'....
Hennessy makes a Scout hammock for those under 5' - 150lbs. I got mine free when I ordered my Asym zip.
Thanks for the tips, links and suggestions, especially that last one, which I must have glazed over. I also missed the most obvious one; Google.
Hey Bob, your area is about four and a half hours from Stouffville where I live but I really love that neck of the woods, especially the rugged terrain from Bancroft to just SW of Cobden. Beautiful,...
I've been lounging here and in hammocks for a little while now and understand most of the concepts, but I still don't know what a number of terms mean: whoopie slings, top quilt, under quilt, and a...
That is correct RP, the MEC pad only has an insulation value of R1.6 I intend to wrap the pad in a space blanket and lay a closed cell foam pad on top of that. That should work down to about the...
Sorry dude,
Maybe a trip to the great white north is in the offing? Not too far from PA. Killarney Provincial Park is definitely worth the drive.
Well I received my Amok 3.0 last week. I also ordered the MEC Reactor-Summer-Pump-Sleeping-Pad and Base Camp Pillow. $95 CDN, free shipping. I am absolutely in love with the Draumr. It is sooo...
That's gold Mike. Do you still have the link for the Ebay pad?
Coach, I apologize. I misread post #4; I thought you were selling the combo for $325 US. Shoulda looked closer. I'm sorry for the false alarm.
I will take that offer for the combo if you are willing to ship to Ontario, assuming shipping is less than $50/US. I will pay for shipping.
Not to compete with the Shug Kool Aid thread, just a more targeted thread...
So I currently own four Hennessey hammocks, they're great but with a slooowly recovering frozen shoulder, I find...
Added. I hope I didn't break it!
Here is a couple of calculators to factor in wind chill.

Thanks. I guess if I don't ask i won't learn.
Why not have the bottom fabric of the hammock breathable?
My company name.
Interesting; that's my last name. How did he come by that moniker?
