Rain, winds 10 to 20, possible snow Saturday. This fair weather hanger is bowing out.
Great selection for a site. The weekend is starting to take shape. So far it looks like I can make it.
It may be on the outside of your 3 hour range, but Wildcat Mountain State Park has Cart-in campsites and a decent trail with good vistas.

The section of NCT from Solon Springs to Hwy 27 has several areas to fish along the Brule river. Not sure what stamps may be needed to fish the Brule.
I am ready for a nice hang in the woods. I'll keep track of this thread, and hope for the best.
From the front entrance go across the tracks and up behind the staff cabin and restrooms. I don't remember what site number I used, but it was by a water spigot.
The Wildcat SP has several sites suitable for hanging. The Devils Lake park also was good, but is a very busy place on the weekends.
Oh man! You guys really took the long way. The video doesn't do justice to the slog you went through. I can see how your upbeat attitude helped get everyone to camp that night.
That would have been fun.
Agreed. Next time less hiking more hanging.
I really learned a lot from this hike. It pushed me beyond my normal comfort zone, I am sore all over, but very satisfied with what I accomplished.
Thanks to everyone for the trailside...
E Agnes campsite occupied. 2 tents. 1 man each.
Northward bound. See ya'll soon.
We most likely will need two vehicles to shuttle everyone and their gear.
I am really looking forward to this hike. I even started packing today.
80 liter internal frame backpack used $30 off craigslist.
New US-Army ECWS sleeping bag $100 off craigslist.
HH Explorer Asym Zip with coupon from REI $140.
Homemade under cover $30.
12ft straps...
Well done. Thanks.
I haven't been down the Flambeau in almost thirty years. The last time down I wrapped our 17' aluminum canoe around the rocks at Beaver Dam. Folded it in half. But no matter. We flattened it out,...
Woot. My nephew in the Coast Guard will be able to join us on the hike.
Looks like you will have great weather for this hike. Enjoy.
Yes to the noon shuttle.
I would like to stop for more than a snack. I will heat water for coffee, so I probably will make a hot meal.
Hikingdad I also was planning to drive up Thursday. We could meet in Trego and you could ride with me. I have classes until 4:30, so I could get to Trego by 5:30.
I agree. Let's stick to the noon time meet. I will shuttle those going to the Oberg trailhead and then come back to the Lutsen trailhead. I simply doubt my knees can take a hurried six plus hour hill...
HikingDad I am a little concerned with the pace for the first day. Being the shortest day it has the longest leg of the hike. I looked at the maps for the first leg. It looks to be a lot of up and...
I agree. I think a blaze orange pack cover is in order.
I will bring my full size 7 passenger van to use as the shuttle.
Blinking lights on the hammock? I just not there yet. But as they say, to each his own.
I was able to snag a ride to Seattle this summer, and spent five days visiting my son before he deployed. For fun we did six miles along the trails at Oyster Dome up by Anacortes, WA.
While we...
I started my summer off camping at Wildcat Mountain State Park. The park is located in the "driftless" area of Wisconsin.
A large portion of the trail was closed for logging operations. However...
This past July 12, I hiked up to Lake Blanche, Utah. It was only a three mile hike, but I failed to check the elevation change in those little three miles.
When I started out at 7:30AM it was...
I am new to hanging, and my beginner hammock is a HH. In all honesty I bought it because it was on sale at REI and I could use my patronage credit on the purchase saving me about $50.
I have used...
I have the weekends open. I also have the maps and a MN state park sticker on my vehicle.
I have been trying to get on this trail all summer.
I just did a day hike to the Oyster Dome back in June. The trail is north east of Anacortes, WA. It had unlimited potential for hanging. Attached is a photo of me in hammock in the "trail recliner"...
Yes the mosquitoes are really that bad. A headnet may not be enough. Any exposed skin will, or even covered by a single layer, will be attacked.
But remember, mosquitoes roost at 60F. So any...
I will be there this July. Thanks for the info. I will bring my hammock.
All is not lost after misfire at the range. The 5$ arrow becomes 9 toggles for tarp tension lines, and my new favorite pencil.
...
I will be in Lansing the week of June 3 - 7. So either weekend of May 31, or June 7 will work for me.
Took a recon float down the Brill river yesterday. The river is already receding.
In light of the remaining snow cover along the Superior Hiking Trail, we will be kayaking down the Namakagon river...
I have not tried this product, but I am looking into it.
Kelty Noah's Tarp
I just tried a yoga mat inside my hammock last weekend. It got down to 35F. Over all it was warm enough.
The mat turned out to be too narrow at the shoulders. I added a car window shade under the...
I have yet to try hammock camping, and I can't wait. I made a hammock and will give it a try as soon as the snow is gone; maybe two weeks.
