Saturday was to be the first night. I don't think I'm going to make it. I've had some things come up that will prevent me from making it. I was really looking forward to this trip.
I hope you show up with your cuben fiber tarp. I've never seen one.
The best camping trips are in places that have no cell phone service.
Just a little over five weeks to go. Don't forget, I'm bringing extra hammocks with me.

I would suggest an adjustable ridgeline. I like dynaglide as it is quite strong and lightweight.
I'm looking at the Wikipedia page for Pretoria. What a beautiful chunk of land. I would love to come there sometime.
I looked up that rope. It looks like it is a 12 strand version of Amsteel. I wish I could get my hands on some of that.
Wow, that's a lot of nice words! Thanks for the great review. I genuinely appreciate it!
Welcome to the forum. My wife is from the Philippines. I love that country!
Welcome to the forum. Curious as to what you are using for whoopie slings.
For ridgelines, I really like dynaglide. It comes in bright orange and super bright green. For suspension, I like either amsteel whoopie slings, or cinch buckles. Both work great.
Congratulations to BananaHammock for winning the Thommock giveaway contest!
I would like to say thank you to everyone that posted their story. I loved reading every one of them!
Thanks,
Thom
Contest is officially over.
I would love to be there, but my schedule won't allow it. I'll be sending a couple hammocks to be raffled off.
I'm not sure. Here is a video of it.

Welcome to the forum! If you are looking for an inexpensive underquilt, check out the poncho liner underquilt.
Hey, Tom! Welcome to the forum! I have an old 1949 Kenmore machine as a backup to my main machine. They work great!
Good luck on the DIY stuff.
I still can't see it.
I wonder if I can add a ridgeline to it?
I'm in Olney, IL. If you want to meet up somewhere just let me know.
Check out the poncho liner underquilt.
I love these stories! Keep them coming!
mrh_on, I ship internationally. If the USPS ships there, then I will ship it there.
As some of you may know, I make hammocks. As a thank you to the people of this forum that have taught me so much over the last few years I would like to give away a hammock, or Thommock as I like to...
You are about an hour and a half away from me. We can get together sometime if you want and I can give you the rundown on this whole hammocking nonsense.
When I lay in my hammock it covers my shoulders to my lower legs. The hammock in that picture is 11' long.
This is what it should look like.

I've used Dynaglide for whoopie slings. At 160 pounds I don't think you will run in to any problems using it.
I already have three tarps, and I have enough sewing to keep me busy, but I'm thinking about making a cat cut hex tarp.
I want something that packs down better than my Kelty Noah 12, but bigger...
All of the cottage vendors make great hammocks, so whatever you decide on I'm sure you will be happy.
With that said, most people prefer an 11' hammock.
Here is a photo of me in one of my...
I don't have any idea what length my ridgeline is. I always put it on before I ever set up the hammock and never take it off. Once it is set to where I feel the most comfortable I never adjust it....
Install the ridgeline before you set up the hammock.
I definitely don't see a ridgeline in that photo. It is commonly accepted that the ridgeline should be about %83 of the hammock length.
20' is pushing it but it can be done. You just have to move...
I'm 6 feet tall, maybe a hair under and I agree with Randy. It can be hard to reach a ridgeline in an 11' hammock.
Being 5'7" I don't think you need an 11 foot hammock.
Go for a drive and check...
I got my snake skins off of ebay. Same seller, same size http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hammock-Tarp-Skin-Water-Resistant-Nylon-Taffeta-14-5x-6-Gray-/151733222607?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2354013ccf ...
We won't be hiking in very far, and cell phone signal is pretty good. If you can't make it the first night, I will give you my cell phone number so we can get in touch.
I've spoken with some people about the hang and we will be meeting around 2pm at the backpackers parking lot.
I'm sure it would work fine. I prefer dynaglide or amsteel for ridgelines. I can't speak as to the abrasion of the rope on 1.1oz ripstop as I've never used it before. I wouldn't think it would do any...
Hey all! I've been making hammocks for a couple years now, mostly for friends and a few customers.
I've had a Facebook page for a while and never really advertised it. If you could check out the...
I need room to move around in a hammock. I just don't see how this could be comfortable.
When I was in scouts 25 years ago we never did anything outside. I wish we could have done all the stuff they talked about when I joined.
A friends son is in scouts now and his scout leader won't...

It sews really nice. I really like the way the bobbin just pops right into the machine. Much easier to use than my Montgomery Ward machine.
Picking up this tomorrow.

It depends on what everyone else wants to do. I can do three days two nights if that is what people want.
We could hike a few miles on the River to River trail the first night, hike back out to the...
Just grab some material for more hammocks. That's what I did. I couldn't pass up that deal.
I would like to get a group hang together at Garden of the Gods, Illinois for Labor day weekend.
The trails are really nice and there are some good hanging spots along the trail. Most likely we...
My wife is an immigrant to the United States, so I get to see on a daily basis what makes this country so great! Every day I get to see the American dream in person. The fact that you can come here...
I've slept on a wool blanket in my hammock. The only problem is staying on the blanket. I was never cold on my back side while sleeping on a wool blanket.
Have fun out there. Make sure you yell whooo buddy real loud so the bears don't bother you.
