I'm also in the White Mountains, Spartacus19. It's a little brisk here, lows in the minus single digits and highs in the teens and low 20's above.
I'm new to hanging, have a new Grand Trunk that I...
The lakes, especially larger ones like Willow Springs, should be clear of ice except around the edges. Fishing is reportedly fair to good, using power bait and lures, but I'm no fisherman.
Supposed...
Thank you for your service to our nation, and thanks to your family, too, who also sacrifice for us all.
Arizona is full of places to camp, and hang, but warm is relative. Here in the White...
Interested? You bet I am. Timing is unfortunate, though. My son and his family are coming to visit from Colorado at that time so I'll be visiting with them. Man, It sure is tempting, though, I wonder...
Hello and welcome to the forum from the White Mountains of Arizona. Glad to see another 'zonie hanger come aboard.
Welcome to HF from the White Mountains. Glad to see another Arizonan come aboard here.
When DW and family go on camping trip with me, we put up BIG tent(s) and cots, and so on. Hammock is reserved for my solo campouts. We got so much invested in tent camping, cots, mattresses, etc....
Welcome to the forums Brian, from the White Mountains of Arizona. Lots of good info here cheerfully provided by lots of good folks.
I've noticed this too. My lines, with either a prussik or a tautline hitch or some other similar hitches, will melt together under either friction or tension. Sure makes them hard to untie. I thought...
Welcome to the hanging forum from the White Mountains of Arizona. Glad to see another Arizonan come aboard here. Let us know if/when you venture into the mountains, we'll get together, watch the fire...
I usually use a headlamp, but often tie a AA or AAA Maglight to the tarp ridge line with a prussic. They have a keyring hole in the base that works fine. That lets me have a "permanent" light in the...
Sounds like you've got it together. You should have nice trees in NM up to the altitudes you're talking about.
I hope it's not a social faux pas to name another forum here, but you might go to...
Good on you for getting out and doing it.
I've been camping and backpacking for many years, but am still looking forward to my first official "hang" in my new GTSB Pro. Never been hammock camping...
Thanks to all for the advice.
I've ordered "The Ultimate Hang" from Amazon, and saw Shug's video's, some more than once. I really enjoy Dehoja's informative "illustrated" posts, too and have looked...
Mt Evans is a drive to the top 14'er, no problem with altitude as you can drive up, take a picture and drive back down before problems develop. The parking lot is only about 50 ft. below the summit,...
[QUOTE=Camper1;764249]Ive got a couple of questions for those of you who camp in the US, firstly, in all honesty how do you deal with the concern regarding bears?
Do you think about it much, carry...
Thanks, NC Patrick. Appreciate that.
You say you'll be camping with a group in the Glenwood Springs area? There are several streams and lakes around there, notably the Colorado River that runs through town. From Glenwood springs go...
Great idea, thanks. I'll try it in my SB Pro.
Straps received, very nice shape. Thank you very much.
Would it be feasible to create a new sub-forum or topic for "Beginner Basics"? I'm a rank beginner and have found some posts to be very informative and useful, notably Dehoja's "Illustrated" posts...
Cool, haven't heard anything of Lost in some time. It was a neat show.
Declination is caused by the magnetic pole not being at the true North geographic pole so depending on where you are on Earth you may need to compensate for the difference.
However, if you're using...
Thanks for the links, Nojope. I've not been on this forum long, and haven't yet found much about Arizona hangers. I don't have very strong google-fu with the search button.
I'm looking forward to a...
Don't see "sticky" indicator button. I'll send a PM to mods.
PM received and reply sent. Thank you very much, pulsemod.
Welcome, Bnos Wood, from a newbie hanger in the White Mountains of Arizona. Glad to see another Arizonan come aboard.
Thank you so much, Dejoha. This is exactly why I signed up for this forum. I'm a newb at hanging, and recently got a GT SB Pro. I excitedly opened the package when it came ... with out instructions!!...
I'll take them, if they're still available. I'll also take the 1" straps if you want to get rid of them.
This is a very useful and informative thread with much good info and links. I suggest this thread be made a sticky, especially to help those many who are not supporting members and can't access that...
I have two Thermarest pads, a very old regular sized original pad and a pretty new, only a couple years old, UL backpacking pad. Both hold air fine, despite my mistreatment.
Then there's us out West. We have plenty of cloudless days, but a tarp is still used ... for shade from the glaring sun. It is many degrees cooler under a tarp's shade than hanging in the sun.
Did it happen? Was there a trip report posted?
Sorry I missed it. I'm a newb and would really like to go on a campout and hang with folks who know what they're doing. I could use some mentoring on...
Welcome from the White Mountains of Arizona. Glad to see another Arizonan come aboard here.
Cool trip, thanks for the report. Always fun to meet interesting people on the trail.
I just tie my foam pad onto the bottom of the pack, which came with lashing patches all over. I use paracord and tie it on with a Canadian jamb knot. "Sleeping bag straps" are readily available at...
Not had a problem with widow makers yet while camping, I'm always very watchful for them. I did get run out of the woods while turkey hunting once. The winds came up really fierce, 50-60 mph, and...
I normally carry a .357 Mag, revolver, but sometimes a .40 semi-auto. I just tuck it into it's holster on my belt and lay pants and pistol alongside me in the hammock. The pistol ends up about hip...
Hard to say, pics? Color swatches?
I can't resist, I'd go with the khaki/black.
Thanks for the report and pics of a great trip in some beautiful country.
When we lived in Colorado, South of Denver, we often went up to Mt. Evans. Only "14'er" you can bag in a car. Now we're in...
Congratulations on your first hang. That's a milestone I look forward to.
"What made you a "hanger"?"
Not sure I am yet. Just got my hammock, and have yet to sleep in it.
But I wanted to try it due to advanced age, sore old bones, back full of steel, and so on. I love...
Thanks all for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to learning a lot.
I get the impression that I should not expect my new SBP to be comfortable?
Hello all. I'm a newbie to this forum and to hammock camping. I received a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro yesterday, have not even gotten it out of the stuff sack yet. I picked that model because the...
