I'll take seconds on the cloud chaser jacket.
Well, I'm new to this whole sewing thing. A rectangular hem: alright, okay, gonna give it the ol cub scout try. But when you get all triangley: whoa whoa whoa there cowboy!
I'm putting together a hammock for myself next month and am starting to look at materials. I'm 5'9", 185lbs. I'd like to have a hammock that doesn't have a lot of stretch in it, but I'd also light to...
I've been really pleased with my Jarbridge. I had it down to 37 one night. It was SUPER windy, and every now and then, it'd steal the warmth from the UQ, but it warmed right back up super quick. I...
I gotta say; I'm looking into learning how to do a little thread injecting on my own, and it absolutely blows me away that they can turn around over 300 quilts and/or tarps within a matter of weeks....
Take a good look at other hammock options. The WBBB is a great hammock, but not particularly ultralight. Dream Hammocks Darien UL, or many non-bug net integrated options out there. If you do decide...
Dave, just responded to your PM. Thank you so much for this; I was really wary about trial and error with used machines I know nothing about. I'll make sure to repay the favor once I figure out what...
Unfortunately, we only have one sewing shop here in town, and they have no used/repair inventory.
I found one other machine that seems to be a good deal. Can anybody give me any input on this...
For those of you more knowledgeable about these things, can you tell me if this is a good deal? Will it handle small projects like stuff sacks, hammocks, tarps, underquilts, and top quilts? I'm not...
Well the good thing about your gear choices is that, if it's not your thing, you can sell them for basically what you paid. But yeah, you're really diving in head first. Those are great gear options,...
I'll actually be working on a bedroll design for my dog next month. Basically, I'll have a 1/8" Gossamer Gear pad cut into a rectangle for the base. I'm going to sew half a car sunshade onto the...
My bank account may hate me in a month, but I'm pretty sure I'll still love my 20* Phoenix. Thanks, Adam and Jenny!
Looks like the Ridge Runners are on sale now.
I'm on the diagonal. No ridgeline, but I've got maybe a 25* hang angle (hangle?). The lay is flat, no complaints there. It's just that I'd love to have a little tension on the edges to keep my...
I got my Ultralight last week and put in some whoopies. However, the edges of the hammock are a little too loose for me. I know I can do it by gathering the ends and pulling the edges a little...
Wish I could join ya, buddy. Sadly, I'll be swamped with prepping for grad school finals all weekend. I'll be looking forward to the trip report. In particular, let us know how the water situation...
It's a rolled hem.
Assuming you mean channeled v. whipped, I prefer whipped. Whipped allows me to pull the ends tighter, which creates more defined "edges" on the hammock and keeps my top quilt from falling out.
I like my Arrowhead Equipment Toxaway Tarp. I think it has comparable coverage to the Superfly.
Personally, if I have to lay my face on anything, I like crinkle taffeta better. It seems to be a lot softer than ripstop nylon. But I'll take ripstop nylon every time for its weight and...
No kidding! Is a structural ridgeline the kind with the whoopie slings threaded through a locked brummel fixed eye at both ends?
Thanks, Americas. I don't doubt it! However, I've got a dog with me and I have a fairly large demand for ground space. He usually sleeps pretty close to my hammock, but I'm hoping we can stay dry...
Anybody know about how much weight is borne by a hammock ridgeline under optimal hang conditions (30* angle)? I know it's not as much as I weigh, but I'm wondering if it would be less than half my...
Just got a tadpole and I'm pretty excited to give it a try. However, one thing that I find very surprising is how small this tarp packs down compared to my Toxaway. Despite being only about 3-4...
I'll take it. Sending payment via PayPal now per pm convo.
I use the Walmart 5'x7' backpacking tarp. It's big, but my dog comes with me and I'd like to keep him off the ground, so his bed and my shoes, pack, and other random stuff all stay on the tarp as...
Half seriously this. There have been a few nights I've left my bug net unzipped and pulled back in case I needed to move quick. Any chance we could get a hammock with an ejector seat?
It was great meeting everybody this weekend. Sadly, I was pulled away from the hang early for a school commitment on Friday and, upon getting into town, was pulled into another one for Saturday....
Pm sent with offer for the tadpole.
I've heard of people using ponchos as tarp doors for cat cut tarps. Can somebody explain how this is done, maybe with a picture or two?
1energy, that looks like one heck of a trail dog! Dingo has the patterned coat similar to cattle dogs, but he doesn't have that thick fur that many of them do, so it's been a struggle to keep him...
It might be self serving, but this works great for me. I'll probably be coming in at around 10pm on Thursday night (so an easy path to the first site would be nice), I'll hike with you guys on...
So question; is this hang going through Saturday night and into Sunday morning? If so, will the campsite be either by Terrill Ridge Cemetery or Jones Hollow, depending on the suitability of either...
Well he was a shelter dog with conflicting paperwork, so I'm not entirely sure.i believe he's just under three years old. He's mostly Australian cattle dog, which is comprised partly of blue heeler,...
Yellowwood Lake is squarely in the middle of the Yellowwood State Forest. While a lot of Indiana is flat, the southern portion is most of Karst topography (rolling knobs varying from 400-1000 feet). ...
I'm still trying to figure out when I'll be there. I'll have school obligations through to 10 p.m. on Thursday, so I'll either come in then, or first thing Friday morning.
Also, I have some gear...
Dingo has the REI Ultra Dog Pack (http://www.rei.com/product/832677/rei-ultra-dog-pack). I got it on clearance for about $30, perhaps because that color wasn't very popular (pshh). If you do decide...
Yeah, the knee's not too bad. I think it was more due to being out of shape than anything else. The Tecumseh's not a very strenuous hike, so this was a good trail to break in the legs over some...
Here's a video report of my Tecumseh Trail hike this week. I got it done in three days. I wish I could have gotten more video, but I was on a pretty tight deadline to catch my ride back to the car on...
Nice deal! I got a hammock, as well as a coughlan's stuff sack and a UCO tealight lantern. Grand (heh) total: $28 shipped! Good stuff.
I'm 5'8" and my jarbridge covers me from head to about halfway down my calf. The rest is easily kept warm with a piece of reflectix or a gossamer gear 1/8th inch pad. I've taken it down to about 45...
Yup, that's Patton Cave. I spent an overnight there two weekends ago. As for spots to hang, there are three campsites on the ridge, and then another one a little ways away from the cave, but visible...
Well hey, it can all be one part of the Hang. Just because it's one event on the calendar doesn't mean we all have to do one thing. Think of it more as an HF take-over of the Deam. That way, the...
I've decided I'm just going to go ahead and do this. I'm going to thru hike the tecumseh from Thursday, October 18th to Sunday, October 21st.
I'll post a pre trip planning and gear loadout video...
If i end up doing this, I'll probably hit the tecumseh trail, as it'll be easier to guilt one of my friends into shuttling me back to my car. I also found a trail guide that seems to indicate enough...
If people are setting up somewhat close to a parking lot on Thursday, I'll probably come in then (finish up some school stuff at 10 p.m. that night). If not, I'll be in Friday morning/afternoon.
...
I'm toying with the idea of doing this in two weeks. My main concern is water; I don't want to deal with caching water. The Hoosier Hikers' Council site says that water can be hard to find on these...
Pictures will be coming soon, but wanted to get the meat and potatoes on here. This review will be on my particular top quilt. It is an olive brown/olive green, 30 degree overstuffed, 6 foot regular...
Hey buddy, same thing happened to me last night with my 30*. Review's coming, but great question. I see what MAD's getting at; but I'm wondering what role my footpad played, because the condensation...
Okay, so I made this map for a previous trip. The first time I went, I just found it without using a map, so I've recreated this from memory basically. If it's not that first campsite by the green X,...
