So I finally made the leap purchased a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC. I ordered the Whoopie sling suspension option and I'm curious what hardware you guys have found works effectively in place of a...
So I'm making the leap. I will be forsaking the old ENO for a Blackbird!...but which one is best for me? I'm 5'8'' at 155 pounds, so do need the extra 12'', "rated for a user up to 7’o" on an XLC?...
I use a Hansen CRL, and haven't had any trouble with drips...yet. I put mini-drip lines on as a precaution though. I would hate to wake up to a midnight shower... Also, I haven't had any tangling...
So, I came a portion of the Benton MacKaye Trail that was very hammock friendly, indeed.

I came up to this sight, and immediately felt the urge to join them, so I did.

Although I...
Thanks Dutch :D
So it wasn't the placement in the carabiners as opposed to on the hammock itself or the ropes in the sewn channel?
So I was looking on REI and saw this:
https://www.rei.com/product/866264/therm-a-rest-luxurylite-cot-warmer
"Designed to raise the temperature performance of your cot by 10-15°...";
At 3 ozs.,...
After reading on the forum for a while, I came across ridgelines and their benefits. I immediately made my own UCR-style ridgeline and put it on my Eno Camonest (length 9'4''=112'';making 87% of the...
That sounds like an amazing idea. I want a loft bed/hammock stand.:D
So, I have this sheet:

It's made out of a no-see-um type material and I thought it would be fun to make into a fronkey-style bugnet, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about this. So here I...
+1. IF you see something, that's your problem. I typically just sit in my hammock and change, and I've usually taken the precaution to guy my fly down farther, so if you look, it's at your own risk.
I think I have sufficiently mastered the acrobatics required to,as Coffee put it, "go off the side of the hammock."
And obviously, I am VERY careful. Still, I've almost fell out my hammock a couple...
My newb set-up was a sleeping pad from the early '90's(bulky and a bit heavy but sooo warm)and a U.S. surplus sleeping bag, and for a while I was looking at making a wool-blanket underquilt for the...
I agree with Rick. Soon Dutchware will a one-stop backpacking shop(if it isn't already)...
Soon you'll discover all things Dutch, then it'll be an addiction.
Welcome;)
I'm late, so I've got one. :D
Welcome to dark-I mean diy side.
Mule tape is great for no-hardware suspension, and is actually pretty cheap.
I agree. Ground camping is definitely great for younger families, and as they grow up, bring them into the hammock-camping fold. And yes, I recommend hammock camping to most everyone, as, to quote...
Puff skins are a cheap alternative, but are very fragile.
How long did this project take?
"More kit! We need more kit!"~My pack
Looks nice.
Looks great! Another addition to upcoming diy projects(as if I didn't already have too many).
Wow! I didn't know there were so many North/Middle Georgia-area hangers! Man, I'm going to have to go to one of you guys' hangs sometime.
Looks cool. Let's add that to my ever-growing list of diy projects.:)
I've always ways used the Derek Hansen-style CRL with 2 biners and a prusik, and couldn't imagine doing anything else. I like the one-side adjust, with the push/pull to center.
Looks cool.:)
My 3 season kit is somewhere north of 10 pounds. Can't afford the nice, fancy down gear(Yet!). Looking at making a DIY Costco quilt soon, but for now it's heavy synthetic insulation for me.:D No...
Compared to a continuous loop, I mean.
Do whoopies provide any benefits besides adjustability?
Okay, so I'm overhauling the suspension in my Eno Camonest. I've decided to to invest in a pair of Dutch's treehuggers with Dutch Clips and Dutch Buckles, but the factory setup on an Eno does not...
I got ya dude. :D...
Nice! Thanks Boston. And yes, Sunndog, who doesn't like Kryptek? That's a great price. Once again, Dutch sweeps again to save the day...or take my money! i sense MORE Dutch bling in my future! Thanks...
I use nylon straps now, so the stretch isn't anything new. On that note for DIY, what kinds of straps could I make? Continuous loops, small loops on each end, hard ware, etc. I was thinking of using...
I'm looking to make my own straps and I was trawling through eBay when I found this:...
What is the price now?
He took down my thread about a DIY HAMMOCK chair(emphasis on Hammock) so maybe they're just cracking down on "off topic" post. I agree with btw. As for your question, I don't personally hunt with my...
Sold out...:crying
Zilla and alfieoutdoors, I agree. This forum is what converted me to hanging. I love Derek's book, and this forum helps me keep up with whats new in the constantly changing environment of hammock...
When are you guys going to expand the "Projects" section of RBTR? I've been DYING to see the instructions for the Stinger tarp w/ detachable doors. I really want to make one. And now I'm interested...
What are you hanging off of in the gym? The basketball boards? Still way cool.
You could just use your normal stakes sideways as a "Dead Man's Stake" . Like this, on the bottom right:

This is from
"The Ultimate Hang". I've tried this a couple times in the snow and it...
So, I'm on a budget, and want a tarp with doors. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
D
There's a lot of other great methods here, but what about Eno Drip Strips. You could use those, depending on how wide your straps are. But... something from Eno pales in comparison to all these other...
I agree; I wouldn't spend $1300 on this, but it makes me wonder: How much time and money would be spent on a DIY alternative?:D
Well, thanks for all the advice first. Second, the one I picked up is made of Reflectix, which is why I got it. It's pretty big (67''x28"), and only weighs 12 ounces. It's a little bigger than my CCF...
Sounds nice! Can't wait to see it. I've got to start making my own gear. It sounds like I'm missing out on a lot of fun.:D
So, I'm looking to upgrade my tarp. I have a ProFly and the more I use it, the less I like it. I'm looking at the SuperFly, but that's a whole nother thread. If I don't get the SuperFly, I'm looking...
So I read somewhere that you can use a windshield reflector(the thing you put in your windshield to keep the sun from damaging the interior) as an underpad. I picked one up the other day at a thrift...
That article is a treasure trove of info for beginners. Wish I had had it when I began. Overall, a really cool article. Thanks for sharing.
