The name of my YouTube channel is "Learning to Outdoors" because it's a documentation of the things I've learned (and still learning) hiking and sleeping in the woods.
I wanted to make a video...
It lasted for a little while, then I got really hungry! I ate a lot more than just those chips. :D
Here you go! Another trip this last weekend. Taken with my buddy, Austin ("Scarab" here on Hammock Forums.)
Enjoy!

One thing I've read over and over is people who go from Warbonnet to Dream miss the shelf. I keep looking at Dream Hammocks too, they look awesome, but I'd miss the shelf. A ridge line organizer...
This isn't an in-depth review of this gear but more of an introduction to the system I've been using for a while and how it works for me.
I get a lot of questions from friends and family about...
I realized after we left the basin that we forgot to look for the boiler! Now I have another reason to go back! :)
Eagle Mountain's a great city, by the way. ;)
From Lehi, Ut. Didn't want to leave my wife without the car for the weekend. ;)
Fun trip with a couple of friends I haven't had a chance to go backpacking with before. We'll make this a regular thing now for sure.

All days (and a bonus clip) uploaded and in the original post.
Looked like a deer, maybe. We ran into the ranger that grabbed him the next day and they were trying to chip-track the owners. He really was a sweet, well trained dog.
Took the trip this past July. It was an amazing trail. I can't wait to do it again.

Definitely! :)
Let's hope! He doesn't know what he's missing.
Backpacking has created a bond between myself and my father as adults we never had when I was younger.
And my boys see that and want that for us...
Took my dad and two oldest boys on a quick backpacking trip. The weather was terrible but they had fun.
(And I got to sleep in my hammock this time!)
It's not in the video (I should have got...
I'll look into it. Thanks! It was a fun trip. They always are. :)
Maybe. It hailed on us pretty bad as we hiked in but it calmed down when we got to camp and I don't think it rained again that night.
The outside of my tarp was wet and frozen as well.
Like I...
A couple weeks ago I pitched my hammock right next to a little stream. Thought the sound of the water would be nice to listen to as I drifted off to bed (it was). But in the morning my top quilt...
I should try the snow stakes. But the stick idea is good too. Thanks!
You never know what you're going to find or exactly what the conditions will be. Having more "tools" in my box will be...
This last weekend I struggled to get my tarp staked to the ground. The duff was so thick I couldn't even dig down enough.
Other than rocks and such, how do you all deal with ground that's too...
So, are there any rules about hammocks there, or anything strict I should know about? Do we have to camp in designated camp sites or can we stealth anywhere? I'm never sure when I travel outside of...
I'm tempted to get some cams or wire bolts in case I need to anchor in the rocks.
I don't mind sharing a tent with my pop. He's great to chat with.
But three years ago the hammock changed my...
Super helpful! Thank you!
You know what, Paul..?! You're just mad your suspension wasn't featured this time.
;)
It was a hard call to make. But with all the extra water we had to take (a gallon) and the fact my dad's...
Habit. I usually backpack in bear and critter country so it's just good practice. No real reason out there, though, but like I said, it's a habit.
Yeah, I don't think it's normally that windy, but it was exceptionally so that weekend. Hopefully it doesn't make the video too annoying.
We lost a cairn or something and took a wrong turn right...
No hammock, unfortunately. Southern Utah gets tough to find places to hang. I hate sleeping on the ground but it's not going to stop me from getting out.
Enjoy!

We're planning a trip to Big Basin Redwoods State Park (Santa Cruz) doing the "Skyline-To-The-Sea" trail.

I haven't read anything about bears. ...
I survived! :)
Used the JRB Hudson River as an underquilt then put my Greylock 3 under that (with the underquilt protector covering it all up). Used a zero degree sleeping bag as a top quilt and...
Weather report says it could go down to 15 degrees. I would rather be safe than miserable. But I may just do the hot water bottle trick instead. Thanks for your input!
I think that's a great idea. I'll go with that, Sean.
Thanks, everyone!
I'm sleeping outside this weekend and I know the temp will be below freezing. This is my first trip this cold in the hammock and I obviously want to be warm.
I have a 25 degree JRB partial under...
My brother, his son and myself went back to Grandaddy Basin in the Uintas (Utah) for another three-day trip.

I'm looking at the Skyline to the Sea Trail (Santa Cruz Mountains) for a trip this summer but don't live in California and have never done this hike before.
I understand it's a thru-hike so I'll...
Thanks, guys!
Shug, I've watched that video (and all of yours' actually) a dozen times now. That's how I do my UQ's now!
By the way, I use the Blackbird, JRB Hudson River and several other...
My half under-quilt (JRB Greylock 3) likes to shift under my Blackbird from time to time (even though I have the shock cord pulled good and snug) so I was thinking about "Triangle Thingies".
...
I'm thinking of planning a trip to Coyote Gulch in Escalante. I wanted to know if anyone has been before and if it is at all hammock-friendly.
If not, any Southern Utah backpacking areas you know...
I just ordered one from 2QZQ... and I have a Superfly.
My last trip the wind was so bad it blew under my tarp and grabbed all the heat from my under-quilt. When the gusts died down I was fine. ...
My brother-in-law, Daniel and I backpacked to the top of Mt. Timpanogos (in Utah). 11,750 ft peak, 13 miles and 4,800 ft gain.
Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuKQF2zcDcE
I will. I'm going to the area right in between Grandaddy and Amethyst next week for the whole week. Hopefully the bugs haven't gotten too bad since last week.
Took my dad, my brother and my nephew (his son) to the Grandaddy Basin in the High Uinta Mountain Range last week. Here's the video...
(We made this for our families, so forgive the redundant...
Got them!
Took them out Friday night. Got down to 34 degrees and was very warm. Thank you, Jacks! I love them!

Aaaaand, ORDERED! Picked up a Greylock 3 and a Hudson River. Very excited to put them to work.
Thanks, Jacks!
Ordering a couple of quilts tomorrow (pay day). Very excited to upgrade from my sleeping bag and pad.
Very helpful comments everyone. Thank you!
Just got a blackbird and superfly and am very stoked for the season to start.
I don't understand why a company would sell a tarp that wasn't waterproof.
If it needs to be sealed in any way why do they leave it to the user to do so?
Not to be negative but it seems...
I think I will next time. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for the tip, I'll do it.
As far as the scale, it's old. I have no idea but my guess is that he's had it for years. Plus, it weighs a little light it seems, so it may not be worth it.

First video. Not sure if I want to make more, so let me know what you think.
