I hammocked at two of the backcountry sites with no issue.... except coyotes, but that is a story for another day.

Awesome report and pictures!
Very nice pictures! That swimming spot looks amazing.
Welcome from eastern NC!
Welcome from eastern NC!
Haven't started shopping yet. My old one just bit the dust this past weekend and with me and Hooch leaving next weekend on our fall hike I really want a new one. Nothing fancy, just something that...
Nothing is wrong with the hammock. I just prefer my ENO. I do most of my hiking in spring or fall so the bug net wasn't something I needed, I never used the gear shelf and the footbox wasn't...
Bump! Bump! Bump!
Thanks y'all!
I was waiting for that! :D
And knowing that fact is half the battle. :D
Thanks, seems like birthdays come around more often than they used to.
Thanks Cannibal! I think Hooch and I both need therapy. That is why we get along so well! :D I'm trying the blackbird out the 26th.
Thanks! And, no, it doesn't get much better than that!...
Hey y'all! I just wanted to tell everybody that isn't already aware, that... HOOCH IS THE MAN!! He is the most awesome boyfriend ever!! I recently turned 37 years old. Hooch got me a WARBONNET...
I am not a Wal-Mart hater. I buy most of my groceries there. What has happened in my town, however, is that Wal-Mart's fabric was so super cheap that all the small fabric stores have gone out of...
Was really look forward to this hike but will have to catch y'all another time. Making sure my man is taken care of is a bit more important. Oh well, bummer......
She was at the NOC at the same time that "Redhat" was there on March 26th. I read it in Redhat's trail journal that Diggs is having a great hike.
I don't think that will be a problem. I can't do big miles.
I just requested off May 11th thru 14th from work! I can't wait!!

I didn't tie up but when I stopped for lunch at the Ed Garvey Shelter I did some scouting and it looked real good. A bit high up and exposed but in nice weather wouldn't be bad.
I think I dumped a drink or too off the deck.....that was before you wrote on the door though....sorry.
NOBO or SOBO you are going to park in Damascus and get a shuttle out to the starting point.... so the drive distance shouldn't really matter.
I am hesitant to vote because I already have the Southern Ruck the 15th - 17th and then Mt. Rogers. Don't think I need to plan another trip for January. Y'all have fun though and if you plan it for...
Y'all have fun! Hooch and I will be hold up in The Franklin Motel in Franklin, NC. Ron Haven is throwing a big Hiker Christmas Party down there. Bar-be-que and good company are on the agenda! If...
Get out between now and then, Uwarrie or somewhere and try it out on a cold night. I'm going to do the same thing the next time I see that the temps are going to be dropping.
Ditch that pack! You can get a 60 liter pack (as big as you should need for a week) under 4 lbs. ULA Catalyst comes to mind. Ditch the heavy water filter, my Katadyn Hiker Pro pump filter is 11 oz...
At the Fall Hot Springs Hang I was in my ENO doublenest and had let my hand hang out over the side. About 5;30am something with a wet nose sniffed my hand....I about wet my pants. I snatched my...
gorgeous pics, great report.
Hooch made whoopie slings for me and put them on my hammock. when we were setting up it took too much adjustment for my taste and the toggles were awkward. I switched back to cinch buckles because...
Ok, I'm stupid.....what is an S240?
At Standing Indian Campground....outside Franklin NC we didn't ask, just set up. The care-taker came by and said we would have to take down. I was in camp alone and really argued the point that we...
Can't remember if I've posted but I'll be there. This gives me an excuse to shop for warmer clothes and stuff! Not sure what I'm bringing food wise but my sister has a kick-butt broccoli, red...
Hammock is the easy question.....insulation seems like the more important question! Still weighing my keep warm options.
Hooch and I usually post our intensions for a trip ahead of time. If you see one that you are interested in, come on! Probably won't do anymore multi-day hikes until the spring though. I'm all out...
Thanks for the hiking pole advise! I tried it and it worked very well, no blisters!
HappyCamper, I did enjoy my hike into Harper's Ferry. Almost got trampled by runners a couple of times!! ...
Excellent report sugar....I'll hike with you anywhere and anytime! This was a trip I'll never forget and you captured it very well.
what adorable kids!! Always good to see kids outside and happy
It was very nice talking to you, hope to see you again soon.:)
It's not sewing!!! It's gear making!! Get it right! ;)
I think Hooch has a cute hieny :p
It can be a challenge for sure. I've been walking 4 miles 3 or 4 times a week, staying away from sugar and fast food, reducing my portions sizes and drinking lots and lots of water. I eat whole...
Thanks, I'll check that stuff out, maybe before we leave. For 5 days, better safe than sorry.
I love my hammock! At the last hang I was in mine for 12 hours the last night...:)
Thanks for the congrats, I've worked hard and broken in new boots in the meantime. Can't wait to meet you too. ...
This is new to my list. I've lost 10 lbs this month (yay!) and I'm not sure how my hiking clothes are going to react. I'm taking it in case I get uncomfortable rubbing going on.
I used a pad and a big agnes bag (no bottom insulation) when I first started hammocking but the pad tended to slide when I moved and it is hard to get in and out of a sleeping bag in a hammock. It...
Here is my gear list. I can't wait for this hike! Of course having my Hooch with me makes it better! Before anyone asks....yes I went back to my cinch buckles. I didn't feel comfortable with the...
I'm a big girl and I have never had any problems. I use a ENO double nest hammock and it works just fine. I use 1" nylon webbing and cinch buckles.
I haven't read all the posts but I voted for end of January because the Southern Ruck is MLK weekend and that is mid January. I would like to do both.

That's what YOU say....that descent into Hot Springs might be interesting in the rain.
Julie
