Thank you to everyone for letting me know about updates... I'm going to try and get things updated this weekend. I've been really busy covering military exercises around the Pacific this past year...
Thank you for the updates! I've been running all over the South Pacific this fall. I'll have the chart updated with these new things by the end of the year.
My research says standard 1" galvanized steel tubing can hold about 2637lbs of compressive force at 72".
Yup, still here in Japan! This summer was craaaazy busy. Spent more time in the jungles, deserts, or ships than I did at home! Let me know if you want to go hanging!
Updated with Dutchware Gear Halfwit Hammock. Just got back from a long summer of deployments to all sorts of crazy Pacific Island nations, let me know if I've missed any other new releases!
Kelty Tarps will be included in the next update, thanks for the idea! I've been busy this month with writing term papers and producing a ton of videos for AFN.
Welcome! You ought to enjoy the Dutch being. How are you planning to use all those Dutch hooks?
Love it! Nice video.
PapaG, the Ridgeline should be taut but not so tight you can strum it like a guitar string. The idea is that it will keep the ends of the hammock a set distance apart, giving you the same sag (and...
Making me miss home... great photos.
I actually setup the camera tripod and hang my backpack off of that. Then the top of the pack is open and I can just drop/grab anything I need. Of course, I can't advise lugging about 4lbs of tripod...
Another super fast shipping from Dutch... my 11' PolyD 1.1 hammock came in today. Everyone in the office was ooo-ing and aah-ing over it! You might have some more orders to ship to Japan soon, Dutch.
Yeah...! Haha. Also, I learned that if you pick the stove up while lighting it you're guaranteed to get that big torch of flame. Oops. (I'm used to the MSR Whisperlite series, not little canister...
Look at this shiny new awesomeness! It looks great!
Get a Juky. My mom sews at least 52 full sized quilts a year and that's what she's using these days. Or give her a ping on her blog, I'm sure she'd be happy to answer questions. (www.52quilts.com)
Forgive me! The video isn't nearly up to my usual quality (I promise!) and it's nowhere near as good as some others on the forum... But hopefully it's okay. Even Nikons aren't that great about...
Had a Tanuki visit me the wry first time I went camping in the hammock!
Outdoor Gear Lab usually does really quite nice reviews of various products... but I'm not 100% sure they've got it right with their review of hammocks.
...
A UCR is basically a whoopie sling... Without the sling! So the bury end stops right after the bury and the buried end continue on (and may have an eye spliced in the end.) Usually the bury length...
Haha! I've got a Dutch and a BIAS hammock in the mail. I leave Saturday for a mountain hike! So whichever one gets here first gets taken...
Question about the JRB Hex tarp, which side is intended to go out? There's a tag on one side, which is the opposite side of the seam sealing. So does seam seal go in or out?
Welp, I know what color my next top quilt is going to be!
No, wasn't able to fix the cold spot. That's due to this hammock, I think. I do have more detailed setup videos, but I still have to edit it as it was on the Nikon!
While it was fun to do this, it was only really possible because Ikego is basically a little valley of forest with Tokyo on either side of it... =)
If you mean the 'stock' one, they don't have weights listed and I wouldn't use it anyway-- see Cheapshoes' comment above. If you mean the tree sling kit:
5.6 Oz for the tree sling + whatever...
Yeah! Voted.
Shakedown trip went well. I'm looking in to other options for the camera I'll bring on my longer trips. While I love the D750 and it's great for video, it's a bit overkill for summiting and some of...
It does! Haha. The tarp has kept me nice and dry. I just didn't want it to rain.

Well, it rained.. And is raining.
Headed into bed! Got a bit of a calf Ridge problem. (suggestions welcome, I suspect it'll wake me up in the night.) Ikego shakedown live report 4: http://youtu.be/wwTnF2bTUBo
Solved the wet wood problem. Ikego shakedown live report 3: https://youtu.be/NrvRg3Z4ywI
Wood pile was definitely wet. Not have any luck getting a campfire started

So, now that all of my new gear for my big week of hiking is here, except for the hammock, I'm going on a shakedown hike!
I'm travelling to Ikego to camp in the hills above the Ikego Navy...
10' isn't necessarily 'more comfortable', I just found it was comfortable for me. It's always a weight/cost trade-off. Papa Smurf has said he sleeps just fine in a 10' hammock. I don't have enough...
Take a look at the Hammock Comparison Chart as well. It's in the stickies. Looking at it, I see the following options for a side-zip ridgeline based bugnet, suitable for use on a gathered-end hammock...
+1 on Gresh's comment. I received an email from him last week and he mentioned that he had a ton of orders he was trying to get out before the baby came in. Also, make sure you're emailing...
Welcome!
Many of the cottage manufacturers also list the weight limits of their hammocks, although it might require a little more effort to find out exactly what it is, due to options available. ...
Almost all of the gear is here now... just waiting on the BIAS hammock or Dutch. If the BIAS is here in time I'll use it, if not, Dutch!
I've got a oz scale on order from Amazon, so I'll be able...
What does the prussik knot at the corner do and how are you attaching it?
Oops, that might be a mistake. I added the Hammeck gear at like 2 in the morning haha. I will check and fix or confirm.
Oh dear, can't help but laugh! Yeahhhh that ain't gonna work for ya.
YOU! Haha. Yeah I'm off the carrier now! Although I have to say, there's a great place up in the TV studio to hang a hammock from...
Hah! Yup... plus, the hammock itself is the last piece of gear I need before my trip!
Love this idea.... Super easy to adjust!
But Dutch, the dropdown says 'kevlar' webbing.
Just placed my next order, Dutch was so fast I figured I may as well order up a PolyD hammock as well xD.
Thanks to JRB for getting my Hudson River & Hex tarp here super quick! Ordered on the 12th, got here today!
Thanks, updated.
