I set up my Tensa for the first time yesterday... only clamshell twice!
I have a Hennesey Expedition that I replaced the stock suspension with continuous loops on the end that use whoopie sling...
I cut my pole to length and thought I'd share a couple pics of the result.

The first one shows the tarp without the pole. Notice that the shock cord holding the doors is about 4-5 inches...
Okay, I got my tarp back with the pole pockets and I received the pieces to assemble the pole. But I'm not sure what to measure before I start cutting it to length. My plan is to lay the tarp on the...
Mmm... What about a shorter, wider version to hold poles. I have a tarp center pole, 6 stakes, 2 whoopee slings, 1 tarp center ridge line, and your new sap sack to hold my straps. A long, narrow...
I haven't camped in a few years so I put off upgrading my rig. But I'm planning of hanging again this spring. So I sent off my HH for a zipper mod 4, pole pockets on my tarp, and a UQP. I've read...
So six years later I finally pulled the trigger and ordered my pole pockets and a zipper mod. I'm excited to hang my rig and size the poles. Thanks, Donna!
Thanks, themadindian. Just what I needed to hear.
For a single hammock hang I was thinking you could use a tarp's continuous ridge line to clip on some thin shock cord to clip to the three netting tie outs. But that wouldn't work for a double hang.
Thanks, FootPathOne. I already picked up Dutch's Double Whoopie Hook suspension so they can hang together from the same tree/ (THey're still in love!) It also will save them money as they can get by...
My daughter and her boy friend pick up a pair of Kakoon hammocks. I purchases a pair of double whoopie hooks suspensions so they can hang from the same pair of trees. But I still have several...
Thanks, Sventos. I think I'm over thinking things, as usual. :-)
I'm about to order new suspension for my HH from Dutchware. But I'm having a tough time deciding between a standard whoopie sling with the fixed eye attached to the hammock end, or the whoopee hook...
Some slip on over-booties with an elastic collar would be a great idea to protect them.
The original post asked about placing the Reflectx between the UQ and hammock. There was a brief mention about placing it outside of the UQ with a UQP. But that post preceded the engineers' replies....
Thanks all for the info. It helps.
Re: #2. It's more likely I'm missing something. My concern with larks heading the fixed loop to the strap is sometimes I end up with two trees that are closer...
Ah! Now I'm even more confused! Well, that's not true. I'm just undecided. Bubba's suggestion is that if I go with Dutch Buckles, turn the sling around and put the hook on the fixed eye.

I'm looking at the diagram for the Whoopie hook suspension. It shows the whoopie sling attached to the strap loop via a larks head knot. But my inclination is that a Dutch Buckle would be more...
I have a Big Agnus insulated mummy pad that I bought for backpacking before I became a hanger. It's been very durable. I've used it in my Hennessey too. Occaisionally me feet slip of the narrow...
Perhaps the aluminum ones sell better becasue of their "coolness" factor. I would think pastic would be better for the hammock as it would intuitively seem to cause less wear on the fabric from...
Would the plastic hooks be better for sewing on the hammock hem? Or does it not matter, pastic vs. auminum?
Do you put the bivy sheet between the hammock and the UQ?
I love the idea of giving it to my wife. I need to convert her into a hanger!
The problem seems to be that bodies would gravitate towards the center I wonder if a second lower ridgeline more like a keel would help to lift and separate the bodies apart from each other
Reading these posts reminds me of my Dad's wood burning stove where he lives in Northern Wisconsin. It's a small hut that sits outside with a boiler and sends hot water to his house for heat. I know...
It was in the WSJ too. It's not the dregs either. They realized they made a strategic marketing mistake by alienating their customer base in an attempt to compete with upscale retailers. They're...
The trick to getting the tarp and hammock in the skin is to roll them together so that the middle isn't too thick. I gather them at the middle then lay the hammock wings lines and tarp towards the...
After basically taking a camping break this summer I hung up my hammock this weekend for the first time since March for an afternoon hang. And I seem to have problems rigging up my Patomac again. ...
And potential structural issues with cliping the biner directly through the loop like Hawkeye briefly demonstrated? I imagine there could eventually be some wear issues but that would take some time...
I found this to be true when I used the pad inside my HH (no SS). Deflating it solved the problem with weather in the upper fifties.
I would also imagine that that the rigid pad would interfere...
I get it. It's the Council that owns them, not a Scout troop. That makes sense that they wouldn't want the equipment.
I'm curious why they are selling them. It would seem to be something they would want to use on future campouts. I can easily see a patrol setting up a pod, perhaps with a dining fly over the middle,...
>>I will need to re-evaluate the SS as I have not used it since I "discovered" the benefits of a slack hang. Heck, I was pitching my HH so tightly that even getting a foot through the velcro was...
Looks like a modified taught line hitch with and extra half hitch thrown in.
I hadn't thought of using my leftover HH stock tarp. :thumbup1:
Thanks
BTW, I don't have a sensitive enough scale but I can't imagine that Opie's SRL is that much heavier than the masons twine...
Makes perfect sense. Thanks
What a great slogan!
1. From the website
"Note....pole pockets that must be sewn onto the existing side stake out patches are "custom fit" to match the stake out patch. (example, the OES Ultra)"
Just so I'm...
What criteria or preferences do you think folks should consider when selecting which side gets 2 pulls vs. the other that gets a single pull? Not having a mod on my HH I can only try to imagine...
He got turned around and didn't realize he walked in a circle right back up to his campsite. It wasn't until he got "splashed" that he discovered he was standing in over his tarp!
A pocket seems tough to do without changing the reinforcement. What about a short loop of shock cord sewn in? Not as slick as a pocket but a step up from a rubber band.
Otherwise the only...
Mmm... Sounds like a stake bag with a pocket for a tarp! :)
Well fabric stretch makes sense. I've had a total of 10 nights hanging (seems like it should be more!). So I won't panic... yet!
I think I'mm bring some electrical tape next time and tape...
All my Honey Do projects tend to need at least one new tool...
I used my cub pillow for the first time this past weekend. I was worried about the small size being too small to be practical. But I was pleasantly surprised how efective it was. It was just enough...
Some stretching of the webbing is possible, but not as much as I experienced. I'm using 1" polypro webbing from Arrowhead Equipment.
And I thought all geezers were weird. :)
One of the other leaders posted a pic as I started to break down the rig. Hence the noob's tent is gone. (As I was sleeping comfortably in my hammock I might add).
...
Being somewhat new (last spring), I've been reluctant to do any major mods to the stock set up. Already my decender ring suspension is old fashion and Whoopie Slickgs are the rage! :) I did get a...
How much and how long should the stock suspension rope stretch?
I've used my HH Expedition four times, theee weekends and on week of Scout summer camp. I set my rig up so I can bearly get my butt...
Ahhhhh!!! I get it.
