Awesome! Thanks so much guys!
I was trying to plan a trip at the end of December and was trying to find a good place to hang around Tampa. Has anyone stayed at Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park before and is it hanger friendly? Any...
Count me in!
Count me in!!
I don't know if that would work. I would imagine that the water would just trickle down onto the bottom layer and eventually soak through and get you and your TQ/UQ wet.
I had been holding off on purchasing a WBBB but this news might push me over the edge. Can't wait to here some reviews on this hammock.
If your goal is to hang two hammocks just using two trees I've had success using the following method:

Another low priced option is to modify a poncho liner into a top quilt like the one I made here:

Slightly off topic but what do you think of the Go Pro Hero 3 Black so far? I am considering purchasing one but can't make up my mind. Most of my travel is on my motorcycle and I've seen a lot of...

Thanks Chickenwing. Looking forward to receiving the pillow!
I'll take one as well!
I would try it and see what happens. Although I can't see the advantage of leaving it tied as its such an easy knot to untie and then re-do.
If you're still looking to purchase some fleece I recommend signing up for JoAnn's newsletter so that you'll get emails for when they have special sales and also have access to their coupons. I just...

Amazing video! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video! Keep them coming!
So any more updates on how the underquilt has performed since the temps have been dropping? I am planning on starting on my own down quilts soon and have yet to decide what dimensions and loft I am...
If you're wanting to go as cheaply as possible you could eliminate the Al rings in the suspension and just use a toggle (sticks work fine). Also you could use 2nds silnylon (7 yards would cost around...
Well howdy neighbor!
Yes I have definitely gotten caught up in this whole hammock addiction. Most of my camping is done while traveling around on my bike and having the hammock has made is so much...
Yeah I plan on putting a post in the DIY forum once I finish it all up.
As far as the diving, I got my basic open water cert several years ago and plan to eventually get my advanced open water....
I have a trip planned for around Christmas time where I'll be going to Florida to do some SCUBA diving. I'm hoping to stay at one of Florida's State Parks now that they've become hanger friendly.

Hi Boothill,
I just wanted to say thanks for the excellent write up of your quilts and also ask a few questions. I plan on doing something similar soon and learned a lot from your post. So how did...
Thanks much! If I showed you a close up of some of my first seams on the hammock and tarp you might change your mind about that word successfully!
The picture with the columns was a spot only a...
Hello Everyone!
I figured it was about time to formally introduce myself to the forum and tell the story of how this hobby (addiction) began.
In August of 2011 I took a motorcycle trip from my...
I received the fabric and am fairly satisfied with it although its not ideal. I don't think I will be purchasing any more. The DWR coating is not that comfortable to the touch and it just doesn't...
About 3 months ago I followed the directions on this thread to seal an asym and a hex tarp I put together. I've only used them a handful of times in rainy weather so while it is too early to speak on...
Decided to give these pillows a shot. I ordered a 72 ounce pillow and I will be sure to update this thread after I receive it and am able to determine the quality of down. If it ends up being on par...
Just wondering if anyone had any experience with these pillows for harvesting down for TQs and UQs.

Thanks for the heads up OneEye! I was able to pick up four of these at $10 a piece. Time to get to working on my winter TQ and UQ!
Just picked up a Kenmore 1774. I found it on craigslist and snagged it for $35. It came with manual and a box full of accessories.

Another option for triangle thingies is to use mason line.

This is my set up. For the actual underquilt...
How cold were the temperatures last night? I know the first night I tried my IX UQ that I made from the DIY Gear Supply instructions that I was pretty cold and it was only mid 50s. After some...
This was exactly how I started 6 months ago with DIY hammock gear. Since then I've made 3 TQs, 3 UQs, 2 more tablecloth hammocks, 4 tarps, 2 DIY WBBB replicas, several stuff sacks and I've got the...
Slightly offtopic for the thread but I just had to comment on this. Has Tom released the Falco plans yet? I've been waiting as I plan on this to be my next SOF kayak project.
PM sent for bushwhacker stove with alcohol extras thrown in.
I recently made a Climashield 5oz/sq TQ so I have some experience with the material but I actually used Insultex for the UQ that I made.
While working with the Climashield I reccommend using...
Thanks for the info! I just placed my order and hopefully will have time to get put together all the gear over the next few weeks.
After thinking about it I decided to crunch the numbers just to see how much of a difference the weight of the fabric would make. Going from the numbers I got from making my DIY blackbird hammock,...
Yeah she currently has a hammock made from that material that I got from http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/ . I am just looking for some nylon to make TQ, UQ, etc with. Also the crinkle taffeta is a...
Hey everyone,
I got my girlfriend one of the pink tablecloth hammocks and am now in the process of putting together a few more DIY items to go along with it (UQ, TQ, tarp, and possibly a DIY...
Very nice looking! I'm about to start by first top quilt and I hope mine turns out as well as yours. Did you follow any particular plans when constructing yours?
Unfortunately no one around here seems to do much hammock camping so I've never seen a Blackbird in person. I'm trying to find pictures of these grosgrain loops but so far I've been unsuccessful. Are...
I am getting ready to put together my own DIY "WarBird" and I am confused by what you meant by grosgrain loops on the ends? I haven't seen these mentioned in any of the directions I've looked at and...
